Syfy cuts Caprica order by 1 hour; releases biblical show poster

Update: Syfy released it exclusively to Mo Ryan’s “The Watcher” blog but Mo said no problem since “exclusives are measured in nanoseconds these days!” so it is now included above.

Here’s her math  about the 1 hour reduction:

The series will premiere with a two-hour pilot that is already available as a standalone DVD. Eight additional hours of “Caprica” will air through March. Then the show will take a break and the remaining nine hours of “Caprica’s” first season will air some time in the second half of 2010.

If you’ve done the math in the previous paragraph, you’ve realized that “Caprica’s” episode order has been reduced by one hour. Syfy had originally commissioned a total of 20 hours for Season 1, but the show, which is currently in production on the last third of the season in Vancouver, will now consist of 19 hours.

It’s cost again. They curtailed BSG because of how much it cost to make the show.

Hey how much was the estimated per episode cost of producting BSG, anyway?

  2. igor says:

Budget cut’s not a big deal. It doesn’t mean a thing for the show. Or maybe the last episode will be a two hour? Who knows. It may be a typo mistake.

By the way Smallville is doing the same thing with the 10-11 episode that will be about the creation of the justice leage. So they also have a episode less but still a 22 hours.

  3. OldEuropean says:

Why Biblical? Storywise (from the pilot, anyway), Snow White makes a lot more sense than Eve for Zoe, except of course, Snow White eventually *left* her casket and didn’t happily stay in it, like the poster suggests…

  4. Cimmer says:

Another character drama about people in extreme situations. Nice poster though and good cast, hope it has some humor, just a little. Heck I’d settle for a tad.

  5. Charles says:

I just watch the BSG mini series and wasn’t to impressed, so I guess ill skip out on this show too.

  6. cool says:

    Desperate Housewives meets Battlestar Galactica?

  7. tdot says:

Charles the actual series is wayyyyyyyyyy better than the miniseries

  8. Corey3rd says:

    wasn’t that a Weeds poster

  9. Kermonk says:

Wow, I didn’t realize she was a vampire!

  10. Don J says:

I watched the Caprica DVD and I think it’s a very well made character-driven drama.

They originally commisioned 18 episodes (not counting the Pilot) so, I don’t understand the logic of 1 hour cut. Is that really going to save SyFy that much money?

  11. Buddy says:

Didn’t anyone else loathe the Caprica pilot like I did? I really want to like this because I love BSG but I just can’t convince myself this will be good.

  12. Dillan says:

They lost an episode because of the Winter Olympics, and needing to wrap production by a fixed date. Simply put, they don’t have time to film 18 episodes, but can (only just) do 17, so they’ve dropped an episode.

  13. Sylvia Knowles says:

is that girl legal? she looks 13…

  14. Bad Robot says:

If 16 year old Miley Cyrus can do photo shoots wearing big black hooker boots, then all bets are off.

  15. O Bloody Hell says:

    > is that girl legal? she looks 13…

If that’s your image of what a 13yo girl looks like, then you probably should seek help before you inadvertently turn pedophile.

  16. Joseph says:

Is Syfy taking marketing cues from the people who did the CW’s The Beautiful Life posters?

  17. Sara N. says:

I predict big problems for Caprica, since it still can’t decide whether it’s science fiction or simply a soap opera with a slightly futuristic setting. Trying to appeal to two different markets (sci-fi fans, prime-time soap fans) will result in pleasing neither.

    Charles

If you did not enjoy the miniseries, well then you will not enjoy the rest, it get worst each season. Season 4 was terrible.
The miniseries was about as good as it got.
