Blame it on the World Series. Fringe recovered from its heart stopping 1.7 rating last Thursday to a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating last night, close to its season average.

The post World Series scheduling confusion for Fox seemed to clear up last night as their line up substantially recovered. Bones increased 12% from last week to a 2.9 adults 18-49 rating. Fringe was up 29% to a 2.2 rating. Still worrying for renewal, but back to its season average.

FlashForward lost to Bones for the first time, and stayed at its series low 2.6  adults 18-49 rating, flat vs. last week. That’s borderline for renewal or cancelation. The rest of ABC’s lineup fared better. Grey’s Anatomy was up 6% to a 5.4 rating, and Private Practice jumped 15% to a 3.9 rating, its best since the season premiere. What were the doctors up to last night?

CBS generally improved, as Survivor was up 8% to a 4.0 rating, CSI rose 14% to a 4.0 rating. Both Survivor and CSI had their highest average audiences of the season, and their second best demo ratings. Only The Mentalist was down slightly (3%) to a 3.5 rating.

NBC’s early lineup slipped slightly. Community down 9% to a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating. Parks & Recreation down 5% to a 2.1 rating. The Office fell 2% to a 4.0 rating, and 30 Rock was down 3% with a 2.9 rating. The Jay Leno Show held even with last Thursday at a 1.6 rating.

CW’s Vampire Diaries stayed even with last week with a 2.0 rating in adults 18-49, just behind the NBC comedies. It had a 3.0 rating for women 18-34, that topped its hour may have won its hour, I am checking. Supernatural was up to a 1.3/1.4 rating for adults 18-49 from a 1.2 last week. It tallied a 1.6 rating for women 18-34. Note: The CW affiliate in San Francisco aired the 49ers/Bears game last night. Supernatural didn’t air at all in the SF market, its numbers will likely fall in the final ratings. Vampire Diaries aired after the game, so it’s not clear how its final ratings will fare.

In Late-Night Local People Meters Thursday night:

  • Conan O’Brien (0.9/4 in 18-49 in local people meters) tied CBS’s Late Show (0.9/4) in Nielsen’s 24 local markets with People Meters.
  • At 12:35 a.m., Jimmy Fallon (0.4/3 in 18-49 in local people meters) trailed CBS’s Late Late Show (0.5/3).

Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

  1. Shouzheng says:

    Awesome for Fringe !! =)

  2. Samantha says:

A 2.2 only looks good when last week was an even worse 1.7. This is still DEFINITELY in the danger zone in my opinion.

  3. Shouzheng says:

At least it is not dropping ;)

  4. Chief says:

A 2.2 for an expensive show like Fringe on Thursdays is still much lower than Fox would like I’m sure.

  5. Chief says:

But a bump of a half point is nothing to complain about.

  6. Shouzheng says:

“Luckily, Fox has been insanely supportive, for which we are deeply grateful.”

At least Fox is supportive :)

  7. igor says:

Oh my god the CW has bitten Telemundo. Finally.

  8. Sammy01 says:

woooooohooooooooooo for bones, firmly back in the 2nd position in the 8pm hour and a 2.9 to boot!

  9. johnthemon says:

    Argh! Community and Parks down!

  10. Ali says:

Grey’s Anatomy is a BEAST! clearly the top show across all shows all week! Private practice up too! very good for fringe. 0.5 increase is a good sign. I hope it recovers back to 2.5 and at least stay there

  11. Brad says:

Phew. Atleast Fringe didn’t drop more.

  12. Mickey says:

WOA @ TVD – I guess its now average + 4 million. The first show to do that in like….ages. But what’s with the 500K drop off?

  13. Jodie says:

    I KNEW IT!! GO BONES!

  14. Ryan says:

Glad to see Flash Forward up a tick

  15. Jason says:

FlashForward is still slipping again as always…not looking good even though the show is really good.

  16. rob says:

Flash Forward stopped dropping. If it stays here, it could get renewed. Private Practice went back up beating The Mentalist! I watch Private Practice last night, Great episode!!

Vampire Diaries still strong for the CW. Supernatural is up as well!

  17. John says:

@ igor you mean Univision lol I love the Vampire Diaries its my favorite new shows along with Glee & Flashforward and V of course!

  18. Alan says:

Intersting. The CW found another show that could land in the 4 Million Mark. FlashForward down> somebody else said on tuesday’s ratings that if people could watch NCIS every week than they should be able to keep up with a show that is very sequential. Oh well, maybe this will be its last season but maybe we’ll get to see what happens with the blackout.

  19. John says:

Wohoo, Survivor viewership is still going up from last week…Its 8.30pm viewership beat Grey’s Anatomy 9pm viewership…Survivor Samaoa episode just keeps getting better…Yay

  20. Holly says:

Was Univision in repeats this week or did they have something major last week? They lost more than a million viewers and a full point in the demo.

  21. kenny says:

I f someone likes Flash Forward it’s time to begin worrying

  22. Julia says:

CSI definitely benefited from the whole crossover thing. But it looks like The Mentalist didn’t see a bump from it.

  23. Worldwide Pants says:

What a renaissance for Survivor, nailing a 4.0, along with CSI. Kodos to CBS.

Thrilled that the bleeding of FlashForward has stopped, up a tick from last week, but likely too little too late.

  24. R.G says:

Community is failing at it’s time slot. It’s almost being beat by TVD. This is bad news. They should switch with 30 Rock.

  25. Robert says:

I dont get why FOx would be happy with Fringe just pulling a 2.2 or 2.1 everyweek. Look at Bones it had a 3.0 at the half hour. FOx dont even own Fringe i think it should be getting a 2.5 at least to be worthy renewel.

  26. Sammy01 says:

fringes numbers are still dire. they look so bad in that hour.

  27. Samuel says:

Bones AND Fringe are up this week, so it really was the baseball and tv guide thing… I guess Fox is going to think about moving Fringe someday.

Yesterday’s FlashForward was the best episode of the season and a 2.7 is not that bad. Not good, but still, I don’t think there is any danger for now.

VD has always, only CW show at 2.0 with a crushing 4.5 millions viewers. Supernatural is up .2 to

So a big “ouf” for Fringe… for now at least.

  28. rob says:

Private Practice didnt go up 39%. I think u didn ur math wrong. It had a 3.4 rating last week. Only went up 0.5. That cant be 39%.

  29. Chuck Tranberg says:

Wow! The Office nearly doubled P&R among the key 18-49 demo and increased in viewership by over 3 million from P&R. Meanwhile 30 Rock lost about 2 million viewers and over a quarter of the key demo. Kind of sad since I think that 30 Rock has thus far been funnier than the Office this season.

  30. bill says:

I’m still having a hard time understanding why Jay Leno is getting eviscerated by the media for low ratings. He has no lead-ins to help. NBC shows are absolutley awful. How do members of the media expect him to retain viewers from earlier shows when the viewers are not there?

  31. pisher says:

Fringe is doing very badly, and it deserves to–yet another poor episode with a few good moments.

But I still don’t think FOX is ready to axe it, if it stays above 2.0 in the demo in this brutal timeslot. I think they’ll keep it around for the rest of this season, and quite possibly into the next. Wouldn’t bet on three full seasons, unless it seriously recovers, though.

  32. lukas84 says:

GA is the best show on tv!

  33. evil says:

nice for Bones getting back at second, it has to be Stephen Fry.

  34. S. says:

In the first Addison centric episode of the season, Private Practice delivers the same numbers as the Bailey visit, and one of the smallest drop outs at mid-time. The Violet crap was dragging the show down.

  35. Jack says:

SURVIVOR had one of the best blindsides of the series last night. Figure that will mean increased ratings next week.

  36. Bill Gorman says:

Holly, Univison had the Latin Grammys last week.

  37. battye says:

NBC down tonight, although good in 18-34 which is pleasing. 30 Rock not even at 3.0, Community down to 2.1 from 2.3 last week if I recall. Hopefully both tick up a bit for the finals.

What would be a safe renewal 18-49 figure for Community? I know it is hard to predict as the sitcoms tend to get a bit more leeway… but for NBC, would a 2.4 be strong enough to secure renewal?

I still think that 30 Rock would be best at 8pm. At this rate the Vampire Diaries could overtake the NBC for the hour, at least with 30 Rock at 8pm (and Community at 9:30) it would hopefully stop that from occurring.

  38. mark-allen says:

survivor is fantastic this go round…great cast.

  39. abby says:

    Joy for Fringe’s recovery!

  40. Terry says:

survivor was awesome last nite!! I loved the blindside!!! the look on there faces was priceless!!

  41. Holly says:

Holly, Univison had the Latin Grammys last week.

    Ahhh, that makes sense. Thanks

  42. cody says:

the best thing for Flash Foward is for it to take the Tuesday at 10 spot. It would get a V and Dancing leadin Thursday is killing it.

  43. James says:

I think Vampire Diaries may overtake NBC’s comedies.

  44. Chuck Tranberg says:

Bill–imo, while Leno does have some nights as a weak lead in there are other nights such as Tuesday with the Biggest Loser which is fairly strong and it’s Leno’s best night but he still loses a good deal of the audience. L&O–SVU gave him fairly good ratings and Leno can’t carry it over. Look at the Office this week, it picked up over three million viewers and about half of the key demo coming out of Parks and Recreation. Leno’s show is stale and repititive and while it may have worked in late night it can’t sustain, I believe, prime time.

While I don’t blame Leno for NBC’s problems from 8-10, I also don’t blame the shows before it for Leno’s continuing disappointing results.

  45. Rebecca says:

pisheR, stop watching the show cause it seems nothing this show does is EVER good enough for you! all you do is whine, whine, whine!

  46. johnthemon says:

    @Battye,

My impression is that at season’s end, NBC will cancel either P&R or Community, whichever does better. All Community has to do is do better than P&R, however I’m rooting for P&R.

    Community is mediocre.

  47. banni says:

I have a QUESTION. Since 18-49 rating influences the ad rate in a show, do ad rates vary within the show? If so, when – within the last 15 minutes where the demo is higher or something? How about on-demand views, are they accounted for? Maybe it affects the ratings…

Wow, CSI definitely did good because of the trilogy. I’m watching the 3 CSIs for a long time and I think CSI: NY is the best since three years ago. I hope you watch the rerun of one of its best episode this saturday (tomorrow) at 9pm! I’m sure you’re gonna like it.

  48. cool says:

what happened to Private Practice? up 39% week to week??

  49. Sam says:

I’m watching FlashForward and rooting for it, but the show is at its WORST when it wallows in navel-gazing, self-doubting, whining moments in which the characters — particularly Mark and Olivia — get pitiful (“What if we can’t change the future…?) because of what they saw in their FFs. We get it, already. Move on. Plot. Mystery. Intrigue. Action!

  50. Liban A says:

Go Grey’s Anatomy, take that V!

  51. rob says:

Cool, I dont think Private Practice is up 39%. I think its a mistake. It is up 0.5 in demo but that cant be 39%

  52. Bill Gorman says:

The post has been updated with full information now. ^

  53. Holly says:

    @johnthemon,
NBC will cancel either P&R or Community, whichever does better

That would be a rather odd strategy…

    ;)

  54. Mark says:

The Vampire Diaries almost beat NBC yet again. Maybe The CW will finally learn that people want old school WB. I hope Life UneXpected does the same thing.

Private Practice stayed steady when it usually falls after the half hour. Healthy gains for GA.

I really like NBC’s whole comedy line up. I hope it gets renewed for next season.

  55. R.G says:

    @johnthemon

No chance. P&R even had a chance with last Spring, and it was just as a dud then as it is now.

Community is starting out and is growing bit by bit, plus it’s more of a critical success than P&R.

  56. Major Mike says:

James, the Vampire Diaries almost beat Leno. That will happen very soon.

ABC only barely edged out CBS in the demos and if you factor in total viewers – CBS had the better night.

  57. Holly, next week will be a repeat for La Rosa de Guadalupe, and presumably for Sortilegio as well, as it is Thanxgiving.

  58. igor says:

Yes Univision you are rigth John. The spanish network (I am not from USA) so I was mistaken by the name. But the cw regullary is beathen by that network so it’s a little sad especially that Thursdays and Fridays are must see.

Good for Fringe. I really liked this episode (first episode that I liked whole season), and I am glad about Vampire Diaries great show and 2.0 ratings (it proves that cw can get bigger ratings if it try a little more).

  59. Sammy01 says:

can i just say im going to scream if that TSCC advert pops up again when i accidently move the mouse over it, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

    rant over!

  60. TommyK says:

The last two episodes of SURVIVOR have been the best in a couple of years; nice to see viewership responding accordingly.

  61. Tom says:

Neither Fringe or Flashforward can play with the big boys on Thursdays.

Lost at 8pm continues to intrigue – no way FF will be there next year, if it comes back at all (it is borderline at this point even with budget cuts).

Fox needs to decide if they want to keep Fringe or not, and schedule it on Tuesday or Thursday, respectively.

30 Rock might tick back up to a 3.0 in finals again, but the point remains, it is doing no better in the slot than Community did. Give it a fourth season at 8:30 and incubate a new show after The Office.

  62. Mark says:

I don’t buy the “Leno has a bad lead-in” argument. 30 Rock got a 2.9 in the demo, SVU had similar numbers the night before, and The Biggest Loser topped 4.0 on Tuesday night at 9:30. He’s losing way too much of the demo every night. If he can’t even get a 2.0 when the lead-in is above 4, that’s not the lead-ins fault.

  63. idizzle says:

“NBC will cancel either P&R or Community, whichever does better

That would be a rather odd strategy…

    ;)

It does sound like NBC though, one has to admit.

  64. Bill Gorman says:

Major Mike, Vampire Diaries beat Leno in all the more commonly cited adult demo groups. And CBS’ total viewer advantage is only meaningful in press releases.

  65. Greg says:

Hope the mentalist goes up in the finals. I cant see it losing that many viewers from CSI

  66. Alan says:

The last two episodes of SURVIVOR have been the best in a couple of years; nice to see viewership responding accordingly.

Are you kidding? I have watched every single season, and this season ranks in the bottom 3 for sure, and last night I officially BROKE UP with the show and I am never watching it again. This season has been putrid and last night was the worst episode ever.

Some cast members have said exactly 3 words the entire season, and other cast members (Russell) are on screen for at least 40% of the entire show. And after the events of what happened last night, I am convinced Russell is a plant/mole put there by the producers.

  67. DeM says:

Very happy for Fringe. I just hope it goes up from here.

  68. Johnny says:

Survivor’s numbers are very impressive. FF and Fringe not so much.

  69. Bad Robot says:

    FLASH FORWARD is DOOMED.

Why? Well, Flash Forward has introduced a military contractor named JERICHO that employs psychotics that go around killing women and children and US troops – JERICHO, the ill fated peanut show, had a malevolent military contractor called Ravenwood that employed psychotics that went around killing women and children.

Im sure the handful of Jericho fans trying to resurrect that show are tickled pink about this development – but its a ill wind that blows through FF – well, that and falling ratings.

FF is getting dull. Playing poker? Huh? Had high hopes for FF, but its rapidly running out of steam. It doesnt seem to be going anywhere in particular. I will probably still watch it until they pull the plug – Im a glutton for punishment – after all, I actually watched Jericho Season 2, ugh. Season 1 – 2nd half in particular was great, but Season 2 caused a total implosion.

FRINGE? Though its costs to make are lower, due to the move to Canada, if the demo doesnt move up towards 3.0, its probably done after this season. Season 2, has been uneven. At least next week they are getting into the Observer and who and what he actually is up to. Its about time.

  70. Dingo says:

Lost would do better than a 2.7 demo and 8.3 million viewers Thursday at 8. FlashForward will likely be a show with a fate that’s debated until the upfronts. However, it has clearly failed to slay the Survivor beast. After a brief struggle, Survivor leads by more than one demo point and five million viewers.

Bones is a utility player. FlashForward is supposed to be a star. Thursday is the primetime of primetime and FlashForward has shone it’s not ready. Move it to 10 p.m. Wednesday against the lowest-rated CSI (CSI: NY) and Jay Leno. Put the biggest guns available on the ad-premium night: Lost/Grey’s Anatomy/Private Practice.

  71. battye says:

If NBC are willing to air 100 Questions – a half hour comedy – on Tuesday nights, then clearly they are not hellbent on putting all comedies on Thursday night.

Which begs the question, why wasn’t Community placed after The Biggest Loser on Tuesday nights to gain an audience? And not just for a couple of weeks like it was when it was after The Office, I mean for half a season or so.

NBC could have figured out something for Thursday, between airing 30 Rock from the very beginning (which should have been done anyway considering the Emmy hype) airing Weekend Update Thursday, and the hour long The Office episodes that they occasionally do, I’m sure they would have been able to fill the 2 hours.

  72. Bill Gorman says:

Note just added to the post: The CW affiliate in San Francisco aired the 49ers/Bears game last night. Supernatural didn’t air at all in the SF market, its numbers will likely fall in the final ratings. Vampire Diaries aired after the game, so it’s not clear how its final ratings will fare.

Can someone from Chicago let us know which network aired the game there?

  73. John says:

    DUMP LENO

  74. Melissa says:

Glad to see Fringe up, even if it’s not by much. I do think it was because of the DVR gliches from last week. As much as I hate excuses, my DVR still had the World Series listed last week.

  75. Bill, it was MyNet WPWR 50.

  76. Bill Gorman says:

J.R., thanks. No direct effect on any of these shows then.

  77. CSM says:

Does anybody know if FlashForward is still outperforming what Ugly Betty’s ratings were from last season? Supposedly Fringe is not in as much danger because it improved Fox’s ratings over last year in its timeslot. If FF hovers around and stays on the bubble, would improved ratings year over year tip the scales towards renewal? Or is Fringe the only show that might receive that benefit?

  78. Bill Gorman says:

CSM, good question (which motivated me to look it up).

Ugly Betty’s 18-49 ratings average through 11/9/08 was a 2.8. Fast Forward’s average is still higher, 3.17 through 11/8/09, but is trending downwards.

  79. Snowolf says:

Phew! Glad to see Fringe back to normal, but they need to push it up to a 3.0 to be secure.

  80. Holly says:

    @Snowolf,
I don’t think Fringe has any chance of getting a 3.0 unless the other nets all go to dead air. I also don’t think it needs to get that high to be safe. If it can average close to a 2.5, I think it’s OK. a 2.2 is really iffy.

  81. CSM says:

Bill thanks, that was super quick! Not much better than Betty so I guess that wouldn’t be much of a factor for ABC come decision time for next season. Thanks again for checking!

  82. Brad says:

If its between Community and P&R, and both maintain the 2ish demo, NBC will pick Community. P&R got a second chance already and even though I think its funnier then Office/30 Rock, it’ll go. I don’t think NBC will dump either show though if ratings maintain.

  83. Rock says:

I know numbers are important but doesn’t it mean something to ABC that FLASH FORWARD, a show the network hyped for seemingly months, got beat by BONES and finished third in its timeslot? I’m not a ratings expert or anything(I’m trying to get a sense of how it works, hence coming here), but shouldn’t FF be at least competitive with SURVIVOR? And there were eight shows that had better 18-49 ratings than FF…again, isn’t that something that should make ABC scratch its head considering this was supposed to be their next big thing? To me at least it seems like FF’s ratings fit a show on the decline in its fifth season than one in its first season that was so relentlessly hyped.

  84. CK says:

FlashForward is not catching on and keeps falling. LOST did better up against American Idol last season. ABC could only do better by putting LOST in the Thursday at 8:00 timeslot.

  85. Peter says:

Very surprised to see Community drop 9%. I thought this show was starting to pick up steam. I hope NBC stays with it and helps it grow. It has potential.

But NBC should be VERY worried that Vampire Diaries is inching closer to both Community and Parks & Rec in the ratings. Did you ever imagine NBC’s sacred Thursday 8:00 lineup would ever be threatened by the CW and a teenage vampire drama?

  86. Gerry says:

RATINGS RELIEF for FRINGE! My worry FRINGE might get caught between a
rock (CSI trilogy) and a hard place (Heigel returning to GREY’S) did not come to pass.

Can a show like FRINGE be more expensive to produce than GREY’S ANATOMY?

  87. gy says:

Great Private Practice is up again.
I hope now Shonda understands that all the Violet crap was just sinking the show down.
Ppl wants to see Addison. Last nights epi was amazing!
    Go Addie!

  88. isabella says:

vampires diaries only give this because this trend of gays vampires…

this shit of twilight is so stupid

supernatural is the best show ever…

  89. AZTop says:

The success of Survivor indicates how important casting is to unscripted shows. The audience quickly reacts to a “dull season”. I thought the beginning of this season was fairly one-note with evil Russell stealing the show. But the last two episodes really changed the dynamic. Somehow the audience finds out and the numbers go up.

Bill & Robert – do you have any trend numbers on Survivor showing an increase once we get to the half-way point in the season? Is the bump up this week fairly normal for Survivor at this point in time?

  90. Bill Gorman says:

AZTop, we have no good time series data for any shows prior to this season, everything is broken up into weekly/daily chunks.

I am keeping individual scripted show ratings time series this season, but not for unscripted shows.

  91. Science101 says:

Wow! An ABC show in the 10pm hour managed to hold its audience for the entire episode! Usually PP starts off with a 3.7 and drops significantly throughout the hour to a 3.4. Same could be said of Brothers & Sisters.

I hope this has shut up all of those Mentalist fans!

  92. Rachel says:

I have a hard time believing ABC will cancel Flashforward considering how much marketing effort they put into it.

  93. Julia says:

Brad, P&R is an NBCU production, Community is not. If it comes down to one or the other (and I don’t think it will, I think they’ll both be canceled) they will go with P&R, despite all appearances of “second chances.”

  94. Andrea says:

“Phew! Glad to see Fringe back to normal, but they need to push it up to a 3.0 to be secure.”

That’s like being happing that Dollhouse is back up to 1.0 after falling to .8 the week before, and getting a 1.5 to be safe.

  95. OhDearOhDear says:

FlashForward is getting on my nerves…The constant “we can change the future” stuff last night. Maybe they should wait until the future gets here to decide if they have any control over the outcome of their lives? It’ll probably just work out to the same end but with different details leading up to it. And that silly card game bit?…That’s the way to hold viewers, a card game!

I knew Fringe would rise again…but a 2.2? That’s still a lame number. I don’t watch it but doesn’t it happen every time it’s on that the viewers bleed away? 6.1M – 5.7M viewers just switching off is not a good thing when you’re an alrady established show. Sorry fans, I think you’ll be missing a S3.

  96. USAmerica1st says:

17 Million/4 demo? Wow! In the Ray vs Heigl sweeps faceoff, CSI definitely kicked Grey’s tail in general. That crossover stunt helped the show and the franchise.

  97. OhDearOhDear says:

    Should be…”…an already established show….”

  98. Daniel says:

WELL done PRIVATE PRACTICE!!! Great Episode last night. Addison ROCKS.

  99. Andrea says:

“Great” is a new adjective I’ve heard for Private Practice. Has this show improved since the first season?

  100. Bill Gorman says:

    USAmerica1st, Grey’s Anatomy (5.4 rating), CSI (4.0 rating). Who’s tail was kicked?

Average viewers useful for press release purposes only.

  101. pal says:

I disagree with the whole ‘vampire diaries’ doing well because of twilight thing. I personally haven’t seen twilight (didn’t even know it was a vampire film) and the last vampire series I watched was Buffy. But I’m really liking vampire diaries. It really is a good show in its own right and it continuing to a pull 2.0 out of the cw really is something.

  102. sfds says:

    Woot! Go Bones!

  103. Fra says:

    Lifetime wants eastwick! Eastwick-fans.net confirms
    Send messages to the abc
    http://abc.go.com/site/contact-us

  104. cool says:

USAmerica1st, total viewers don’t care.. Greys beat CSI in the demo.

  105. Anthony says:

OhDear: I agree, the card game was silly. They tried to sell it as something “the Gods did” or whatever. What it sounded like to me was lazy writers who needed a forum to trade pithy dialogue. Meanwhile, what were those other people doing at the table? I thought it was just between the two of them.
They’re sitting there talking about the blackout and nobody is batting an eye. Ridiculous.

Suffice it to say, I’m still watching, but with a jaundiced eye at this point. It’s getting on my nerves too.

  106. Bill Gorman says:

Fra, Headline: “Crazy Eastwick fans to harass Lifetime.”

Why would messages to ABC do any good? Wouldn’t messages to Lifetime make more sense? (although still be futile)

  107. Shaz says:

    “Lifetime wants eastwick! Eastwick-fans.net confirms
    Send messages to the abc”

To quote Babylon 5: And so it begins…

  108. cool says:

Andrea, I enjoyed more Private Practice last night than Greys..this season is easily the best one yet.

  109. Fra says:

It could be possible, its a rumor from the set. Remember that southland was saved in extremis, and eastwick is a so great show and deserve it!

  110. Julia says:

What does this mean? de l’équipe de tournage

Also, whoever this source would surely know that messages to Lifetime would make much more sense than ABC.

  111. Fra says:

Because if it’s true that lifetime is interested abc has to sale it… I really hope so

  112. Bill Gorman says:

Fra, little green men on Mars could be possible too. The Rovers simply haven’t seen them yet ;)

  113. Julia says:

Fra, Southland’s already produced episodes are going to be aired by a network that is owned by the same parent company as the production company. Not airing them would be a waste of money. Eastwick is produced by WB, which has nothing to do with Lifetime, which is owned A&E Networks, which is jointly owned by Hearst, Disney and NBCU. There’s no comparison here to Southland.

  114. Bill Gorman says:

Fra, it’s not ABC’s to sell. Warner Brothers produces the show.

  115. Julia says:

Fra, WB owns Eastwick. ABC has canceled it, and therefore doesn’t own anything except the unaired episodes. If Lifetime wants to produce new episodes, they need to talk to WB, not ABC.

  116. Julia says:

On the plus side, this does give Holly a legitimate bingo!

  117. bill says:

    @ Mark & Chuck

I completely see your viewpoints. He does lose the 18-49 demo on all nights. But, he has never had the them. He skews towards an older viewer…even at 11:30. He has basically retained the same viewers as his Late Night show. ..not added any new ones.

Putting him in at 10 was a bad move. NBC’s programming mindset, in general, is bad. He’ll never be able to compete with a drama in the 10 pm time slot…especially established shows. It’s too inconsistent as a show…some nights the guests might not appeal to everyone, or some other variable. It’s more of a tune in when you find the lineup interesting. The lead in hurts him and he, in turn hurts the local news, post show.

I was stating the media’s attitude towards Leno. He is basically has the same show, the show everyone loved and praised when it was doing well. Now that it is doing poorly, they skewer him. They should be going after NBC, not Leno.

  118. Melissa says:

“Great” is a new adjective I’ve heard for Private Practice. Has this show improved since the first season?
    —————–

The show has definitely improved. The show still has some stinker episodes, last week’s comes to mind, but overall the show has become very enjoyable and many episodes I find to be better than Grey’s Anatomy.

  119. Lu says:

I’m happy for Bones and Fringe!!! Bones is the best show on Thursdays, admit it.

  120. Mike says:

I too am happy to see Fringe back up. Amazing what happens when it appears on a schedule. They have moved this around too much for my liking. As a rule when ever a show is moved from its original time slot I watch a show less.

It would be interesting to see a chart of how many shows improved after a move and how many went down.

I would tell them to move it Fridays but they killed Firefly and TSCC this way even though I watched them both. I remember the good old days when I used to come home on Fridays first looking forward to watching Dallas and then the X-Files. I used to veg out after my week and chill. Obviously these were a couple of shows that were an exception.

Oh well another show I like that has a shaky future.

  121. Worldwide Pants says:

    @bill, 10:13am

I agree, the media should go after NBC instead of Leno himself.

In May, Jimmy Kimmell (from Entertainment Weekly) said it best: “NBC was so desperate to hold on to Leno that it was willing to ”destroy” the network in the process.”

  122. Michael J says:

    Julie says:

“Fra, WB owns Eastwick. ABC has canceled it, and therefore doesn’t own anything except the unaired episodes. If Lifetime wants to produce new episodes, they need to talk to WB, not ABC.”

I would also add that the cast would have to be put under contract again and chances are slim that they would want to take another chance at a show that was canceled once when they could be searching for more steady work in my humble opinion.

  123. Gerry says:

de l’équipe de tournage = film crew

  124. Julia says:

Thank you Gerry. My translation widget did a good job on the rest of it, but that phrase was translated as “team of turning.”

  125. spotupj says:

I may be in the minority here, but I’m going to wait until I see NBC create a drama that can consistently get a 2 demo before I swing the axe on either Community or P&R. They haven’t greenlit such a drama in two years.

  126. Richie says:

Flash Forward was really dull last night… that poker scene went on forever and the dialogue was so pretentious and theatrical… I’ve watched since day one but I’m starting to think I may not make it to the end of the season.

  127. BG says:

There is a good chance of seeing LOST at 8:00 PM on Thursday night. If not, than a TUESDAY at 9:00 PM will be the other slot. I really do see LOST getting some great ratings for it’s FINAL Season. There is a lot of interest, and for most viewers, they will realize that a show like LOST will be not repeated for a long time, and it was unique and a great show…

  128. Sammy01 says:

why are people saying they find it painful to watch FF, then say they will carry on watching?

  129. Gerry says:

    Julia, glad I could help

  130. Sam says:

Private Practice had a fantastic episode last night, easily the best so far. Kate Walsh put in an Emmy-worthy performance. Had me crying.

  131. Sandro says:

excuse me but..what happens in the markets where supernatural didn’t air? is this “fair”?

  132. Jess says:

    Bones bones brittle little bones
its not the milk you seek
    its the sun you need
    na na na na na

    lol

    YAY

  133. Bill Gorman says:

Sandro, the viewership of the football game in San Francisco will be removed from the preliminary Supernatural numbers above in the final calculations which will quite possibly cause them to decline.

  134. rodshooter says:

CSI: really gave itself a needed boost this week I mean that trilogy featured one of the episodes of the series. I was impressed as its been a long time since I’ve actually enjoyed all three CSI episodes in one week at the same time. Congrads to CBS. The Mentalist had a bad eppy in my opinion but next week looks like the real deal. TM will likely go up even more in finals.

Bones is just so solid right now for FOX. Fringe getting DVRed like it does is a sign for FOX to move it back to the slot it came from or let it get a boost out of House on Mondays.

NBC needs to stop kidding themselves with this comedy lineup and start mirroring the shows that made Must See TV a #1 destination for folks on a Thursday Night.

Well CW, VD is a real hit for you guys and you probably didn’t want it to be but it is. This and 90210 are the only things working on your sorry ass network.

  135. Anthony says:

    @ Sammy:

Because we’ve devoted a huge chunk of time to it already, and we want to see how the show ends. It isn’t that I don’t like the show, but it’s sometimes difficult to stay with. It seems disjointed and especially dull at times.
I hope they’re building to something. If not, I’ll feel like I’ve truly wasted my time. As it is, it’s a Hell of a lot better than “Survivor” and/or “Parks and Recreation.”

  136. Sammy01 says:

Anthony – i guess im more fickle lol, if something isn’t living upto my expectations i move on and if reports, blogs ect say it has turned a corner then i give it a 2nd chance.

  137. Rob D. says:

I really like Parks now and have to root against Community. Community is decent but if it’s one or the other- I will take Parks. Parks was never given the chance to be post “The Office”. When it came out it had Earl as a lead in and last season wasn’t as good as this one.

  138. Holly says:

On the plus side, this does give Holly a legitimate bingo!

    Yay! /

Although, why are we discussing Eastwick in the Thursday rating post?

  139. Carol says:

Your stats show Fringe got a 2.1 not a 2.2 rating.

  140. Fringefan says:

Sammy01, because we are masochists, it’s why I still watch Mad Men. Flash Forward was decent last night, it’s becoming apparent why ABC fired Marc Guggenheim, he wrote last night episode! The poker thing was dreadful. He was on the staff for the first 13 episodes so hopefully the show doesn’t lose more viewers before David goyer takes over.

Fringe is back to normal, and yes, a 2.2 is still great numbers against GA and CSI. It helps that whoever tuned in last night saw a great episode, the show does much better when it’s focus is on fringe science, not monsters.

  141. CTTS says:

I’d love to see (the vastly-improved and quite funny) Parks get a shot at 9:30. I’ve been a fan of 30 Rock from the beginning, but it isn’t holding enough of Office’s lead-in to justify having the plum spot after so long.

  142. Bill Gorman says:

Carol, the two half hours were a 2.1 and a 2.2. The hour average was a 2.2.

  143. Peter says:

Here’s a thought – how about Community ditches NBC for Comedy Central or HBO? I think it could thrive on those networks. I just hate the idea of it being cancelled and then disappearing all together.

  144. It’s strange how I’m now rooting for the survival of a show that I actually don’t care for personally and don’t see as a “real” example of the genre I’m hoping it’ll save, precisely because after the failures of so many science fiction shows, there’s a good chance that the death of Fringe will ultimately be the end of science fiction on network television as we know it.

As long as it survives, other networks can go “Well, Fox got Fringe to work, let’s try something science fictiony and see how it goes”. So I root for Fringe. And I’m glad to see today’s numbers.

  145. Sammy01 says:

I know all about being a masochist im a tori amos fan lol.

I hope all your faith in FF is repaid, just as long as it stays behind bones in the demo lol

  146. Dante says:

How long before we know how Community is really doing? i.e. seems like there have been a lot of excuses, time slot switch, World Series coverage, “critical” success, etc. How long does it take for a new show to gain an audience/momentum? I like it, but, if it stays flat, does it really have a chance?

  147. lutherblissett says:

Well, I called it re: FRINGE, in spite of all the attempts to pooh-pooh the World Series hangover.

  148. A5J4D X says:

if flashforward continues to drop itll be season 1 then….the end :P i kind of want that to happen

  149. Parenthood says:

Fringe probably will be renewed for a 3rd season. Why? Anna Torv is Rupert Murdoch’s niece.

  150. Parenthood says:

Pal said, “I disagree with the whole ‘vampire diaries’ doing well because of twilight thing. I personally haven’t seen twilight (didn’t even know it was a vampire film) and the last vampire series I watched was Buffy. But I’m really liking vampire diaries. It really is a good show in its own right and it continuing to a pull 2.0 out of the cw really is something.”

True Blood is also a good show in it’s own right. It also gets more publicity than Vampire Diaries. It was created by Alan Ball and Anna Paquin won the award for Best Actress at last years Golden Globes.

  151. usedtolovecoco says:

I can’t believe there are enough mouth breathers in the world to give such high ratings to Survivor.

  152. I agree with spotupj. NBC may seriously be going “more colorful” with sunshine and rainbows.

  153. Parenthood says:

What could be done to improve Fringe and make it as good as The X Files?

  154. Gregg says:

Everyone keeps saying how ratings for Thursday is down but it is never mentioned that it is the networks biggest night! Meaning they are all putting up there biggest ratings show against each other. Of course rating are going to drop!!

It blows my mind that no one at the networks takes there Thursday lineup and go against NCIS!! Then see what happens to the ratings. Metalist is a perfect example. No competition last year great ratings… competition this year ratings are just good.

  155. JaySin420 says:

Good for Fringe, that show was awesome last night.

  156. Anthony says:

@ Sammy: Yes, but with a show like FlashForward, you can’t afford to miss 3 episodes and expect to get caught up. I’d rather persevere with something I’m loyal to than to bail on it and get left behind when it supposedly gets better. I’ll rely on my own judgment rather than the opinions of others.

It’s not like it’s a horrible show. if it was, I’d have stopped watching a few weeks ago, like I finally did with “Heroes.”

  157. Tom says:

To all those worrying about Community and/or P&R I’d point to this quote from the Cancel/Renew index post of this very week…

“The ratings carnage at NBC is so complete that unless a miracle happens this spring with their new shows (and their development slate) the network very well may have to have to hold its nose and keep some of its well below average performers. If that happens, 30 minute sitcoms like Community and Parks & Recreation are the likely candidates”

Right now there are three factors at play. (1) Nothing at NBC is working right now, (2) NBC can’t allow itself to become the network of Reality shows + Jay and (3) NBC has put a genuine effort into having a Thursday night comedy block (probably to remind people of its glory years more than anything)

Given all that I think all the Thursday night comedies are probably safe if they can stay about 2.0

  158. BJB says:

Babylon 5: And so it begins…

….There is a hole in your mind. Why are you here? Do you have anything worth living for?

A couple more lines from “The Wheel Of Fire” intro for the Eastwick crazies.

  159. Quoting Bablyon 5 makes you guys crazy too.

  160. Alex says:

Right now and for a whole bunch of reasons I don’t think Fringe is in any danger. Had it not rebounded this week I’d be singing a different song but as things stand its doing relatively well and can’t be that far behind realistic expectations for it all things considered. However in general terms its much too early to call anything on Fox right now as their future line-up is going to depend entirely upon how the Idol assisted mid season line-up fares and whether or not So You Think You Can Dance has performed well enough to remain on the Fall schedule next year.

I think Fox will take Fringe next year over Lie To Me next year, which makes no real sense from a numbers or quality view point but that’s how I see things playing out. With that said I would be interested to see how a Bones/Lie To Me combo plays out so maybe they can give that a go at some point in the new year since it looks likely that Bones will be bumped at some point for a Thursday edition of Idol and they’ll have Lie To Me episodes to burn mid season.

And I know Fringe takes a lot of heat for being propped up by its lead-ins last year but I think Lie To Me’s performance this year proves rather bafflingly that the lead-in isn’t everything. And I say that’s baffling because I think just about everyone expected the House/Lie To Me pairing to take off.

Elsewhere usual Thursday nights really, although the CSI crossover helped boost CSI’ numbers this week we’ll see if that holds next week – my guess is no.

  161. Anthony says:

    @ Tom:
I think, when you’re up against a juggernaut like “Survivor” (although how it is still popular is beyoond me) and ABC throws in a hottie like “FlashForward,” you take your 6’s and 7’s and be quiet.

Especially when you consider that a franchise like “The Office” is almost being beaten by “Fringe.” How quickly that audience bailed after the junk they ran at us last season.
Last night’s episode was equally stupid. The only funny part was Creed running from the office when Michael scared him. Otherwise, I thought it was about as dopey as sitcom TV gets.

  162. Bill Gorman says:

Anthony, “The Office” is almost being beaten by “Fringe.”

    Say what?

    Through last week, The Office 18-49 ratings average is a 4.2. Fringe’s 18-49 average is a 2.12.

  163. Kareem says:

The Vampire Diaries will (eventually) beat the NBC comedies, but only after Univision continues it’s weekly beatdown of the CW on Thursdays.

What I’d like to see is Supernatural at least match the Vampire Diaries.

  164. Major Mike says:

Bill wrote ‘Major Mike, Vampire Diaries beat Leno in all the more commonly cited adult demo groups. And CBS’ total viewer advantage is only meaningful in press releases.’

@Bill You’re right about Vampire but when it beats Leno in both total and the demo is when I would be worried for Leno. Doesn’t Kate Plus 8 beat Jay in the demo?

On the fact that total viewers only matters in a press release, I differ. I say that as a former tv & sales guy. When you look at the .2 edge that ABC had over CBS in the demo CBS did pretty will. Plus the fact that, on average, CBS had roughly 5 million more viewers gave CBS an edge. Not only can they reap the rewards of selling avails based on the demo, but they can also throw on some gravy with the higher number of viewers.

  165. Bill Gorman says:

Major MIke, I absolutely agree with you on the the “victory” and “win” analogies that we draw on our site (and everywhere else). It’s absolute ratings that matter, the winning and losing really *are* just for press releases, and sites like ours. ABC would rather average a 5.0 rating and “lose” to CBS than average a 3.0 and “win”.

As for the CBS makes more money somehow by “throwing in” the 50+ viewers. Although I agree that makes “common sense”, I haven’t actually seen any evidence that it happens, either in the estimated advertising revenues/rates we see quoted from time to time, or in the behavior of the networks for scheduling and renewal/cancellation.

  166. joselito4390 says:

I think Vampire Diaries has a chance of reaching 5 million viewers one day.

  167. Anthony says:

@ Bill Gorman: I’m looking at total viewers 7 mil to 6 mil. I know the world stops with 49 year-olds, but those of us over 50 know how to buy products too.

  168. Alex says:

It is dangerous to say that total viewers are meaningless and that anything outside of the 18-49 is meaningless but in very general terms and in terms of easy/accessible analysis they are. As we saw last year with Dollhouse there are many more factors that go into deciding a shows fate than the demo numbers but ultimately if the demo numbers aren’t there then its only delaying the inevitable, as we’ve witnessed this week.

Of course when you’ve got two shows that average the same (or close enough) the same demo then obviously the networks would all prefer to have the show that brings in more viewers, however fewer viewers isn’t going to be anything close to a deal breaker. Take a look at House, there’s a decent list of shows that all average bigger total audiences than it does but I think only Grey’s Anatomy is averaging a bigger demo number so far this season, do you believe that every network executive wouldn’t give their right hand for House? And I’d bet everything I have that right now every network would take Grey’s over CSI despite the fact that CSI has more viewers.

  169. Alex says:

Anthony that’s true but unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your POV) NBC and Fox aren’t selling ad rates or judging Fringe and The Office on their total viewers. I suspect it also says something about the (target) audience of The Office that despite having almost the same total viewers its not far off doubling Fringe’s demo…

  170. Lenny says:

The Vampire Diaries did almost reach 5 million with it’s premiere a couple of months ago. And with DVR numbers added, it was at almost 6 million.

  171. Peter says:

    Tom wrote:

That is a stunning possibility. You’re telling me, with all the outrageous amounts of money NBC spends on development, and all the current spec comedies out there, that they actually have NOTHING to buy for 2010??? Is that an indictment on NBC’s development staff, or an indictment of the overall lame state of TV sitcoms in LA?

  172. Phil says:

Is CSI in danger of a new timeslot?

  173. kwhy8strm says:

Happy for Fringe, but Fox has to find another night for it, Thursday night is just too much hi-level fan supportive tv for other shows
    Tuff nite!!!

  174. Tar says:

ABC sure likes its remakes 2010-2011 development slate confirmed = Charlie’s Angels

  175. Theoacme says:

JR: NBC would be better off being “more colorful” with…

    …sunshine, lollipops, and atomic knee-drops…:D

Although, I wonder if NBC could purchase the rights, and move to prime time once per week, uber-versions of a WWE production, “Wheel of Fortune”, and “Jeopardy” – they would have to get better ratings than Leno…

…wait a minute, could I host a panel discussion about TV ratings, on NBC, and get better demos? With Bill, Robert, Julia, and Holly, all I would need would be a couple of guest panelists each week (JBF on bad “Dollhouse” weeks comes immediately to mind), and we could have a 3.0 demo…

…wait a minute – there are a few guest panelists that would inspire Jerry Springer-type brawls – good for ratings :D

And Holly, I’ve done so well at bingo (my losing streak is twenty times longer than NBC’s!), I would advise you to take your bingoes wherever you can find them…

  176. Gleebo says:

“What could be done to improve Fringe and make it as good as The X Files?”

    1. Get time machine
    2. Travel to 1993
    3. Turn to FOX on Friday night
    4. Watch X-Files to the point of memorization *
    5. take time machine back to when Chris Carter pitched XFiles to FOX
    6. Kill Chris Carter and take his episode of the “Pilot”
    7. Cross out his name…write in by “J.J Abrams”
    8. Give to FOX
    9. Profit

*may seem like an unnecessary trip since he really could have just watched the DVDS before leaving 2009, but if there is some chance that doing this would fix seasons 8-9 instead of what we got…we have to take it.

Im not trying to rip on Fringe because its great. I just don’t think people should keep expecting it to be X-Files. IMO Supernatural is much closer to The X-Files than Fringe in similarity.

  177. My guess is that “Bones” watchers also watch “Community”, since last week “Community” had more viewers, which I suspect was the “Bones” audience”.

    FOX, MOVE IT.

  178. sdfds says:

Don’t count on it any time soon, James. I’m sure Fox is happy to leave “Bones” where it is.

  179. igotid88 says:

They should’ve promoted that Pearl Jam’s song was going to be in last night’s FlashForward episode.

  180. Mumbo says:

I could see FlashForward staying pretty much flat around 2.6 to 2.7 for the season. Maybe dip to 2.5 or 2.4 but no further down. And if it stays there I think it will get a renewal (albeit maybe only a 13-episode one).

    —-

“Fringe probably will be renewed for a 3rd season. Why? Anna Torv is Rupert Murdoch’s niece.”

You don’t think Murdoch is the type of man to ditch his niece to save money?

  181. Brad says:

    Julia,

Forgot Community was a Sony produced show.

    Tom,

I too think that if NBC does not have a strong pilot season they may stick with a few shows to see what works out. Even though Heroes pulls decent ratings, its stale and needs to go. Mercy needs to go. L&O needs to go. Keep the Thursday night shows, Chuck, Biggest Loser and SVU. That should give the network a few spots for new shows to try out.

  182. vsaint says:

FOX is trying to build Thursday up.
Just like CBS is trying on Wednesday comedy block.
Outside of HOUSE, IDOL, FOX is going to get killed here.
24 would be a decent option, but they have already decided to air on Monday 9pm. Fox wants to develop 1 hour drama’s.

  183. Jeremy says:

I’m suprised The Office did so well in the demos last night. I expected CSI to do a lot better with the CSI trilogy finishing.

  184. Theoacme says:

Brad: L&O is the equivalent of a 39 year old, 17-10, 3.50 ERA southpaw fourth or fifth starter / middle reliever, good for a reliable 180 innings per season…

…yeah, you could get a Johan Santana, if you got really lucky…

…but remember, the NBC scouting and minor league departments are about as good as the Washington Senators’ right now, with the budget of Jack Benny – I wouldn’t count on them finding a better option than the canny veteran they already have :(

  185. Blue Sunflower says:

Shock that Fringe’s numbers weren’t anything to really worry about. Shock, I say. Only totally not.

  186. Lil says:

Sucked in FF. YAY for Bones & Fringe!

  187. aznfratboy says:

Wow, FlashForward is really getting owned, Grey’s could probably get even better ratings with a better lead-in.

  188. Holly says:

I think they’ll keep L&O, even if just for mid season. NBC knows they have to rebuild, and they are spending a lot of money on development, but at least one of those new shows will bomb. It’s good to have a steady performer ready when that happens, and right now for NBC, that’s L&O. It’s holding up well on Fridays and has a much better chance of maintaining its ratings than most of their other shows.

  189. tvmegafan says:

Fringe is an amazing show!!! I hope fox gets smart and moves it to a better spot, and actually tells people there moving it not just disappear and then be on a new night no body knows about. PLEASE SAVE FRINGE!!!!

  190. I’m not surprised Flash Forward isn’t going anywhere because that’s exactly what I predicted based on the book. It CAN’T go anywhere unless they want to turn the book on its head. It was never sci-fi – it’s a human drama that had a sci-fi premise and a specific end point. Why anybody thought they could get a multi-season series out of it is beyond me. Without somebody doing a “Lost” maneuver on it, it can’t go anywhere.

  191. morons says:

all u who dont like or watch supernatural just dont get it …well cuz u have no heart and basically u just suck …OH YA and the vampire diaries r just a poor quears twilight…….

  192. vsaint says:

Flashforward is slowing fitting in perfectly on Thursday’s Women centric lineup. Nothing wrong with that, but the characters aren’t likeable enough and it’s not interesting enough to get the sci-fi fans.
The Producers did say they have enough material for 3 seasons.
But it’s looking more like Jericho.
I’m not going anywhere, i will watch it to the end, but the new showrunner needs to make changes.
Good for CSI finally a quality episode.

Completely agree.( just like we were in the summer) ;-)

  194. Michael J says:

This past Fringe episode wasn’t half bad. They seem to be moving back more towards the underlying theme of Season 1.

  195. Len Davis says:

As much as I have enjoyed THE OFFICE, it is starting to show major creative signs of erosion. Tired plots, several laugh-free episodes, no momentum of any story lines — it’s really beginning to look tired.

The ratings are still there now but if this season keeps going the way it is, it’s just a matter of time before the decline shows in the numbers.

  196. Mike says:

Fringe to me is the type of show that you want to watch one after the other. When they starting moving nights, then preempting for sports that cause me to interest. It is a sort of serialized show that lead to that.

And I also agree that I would love to see more Lennard Nemoy and the watcher.

It is definitely now a DVR and then watch program.

So riddle me this..When Fringe was on Tuesday getting the ratings it got vs the lower rating that it is getting on Thursday which is making more commercial $$ for Fox for each hour.

    Anyone know?

I would like to see it moved back to Tuesday although I would say Friday ala X-Files except for TSCC and Firefly being canceled in that spot.

  197. John Titor says:

Another factor with FRINGE is the moved production to Canada where costs are lower. Even so, unless it moves back toward 8 million viewers and upper 2’s in the 18-49 Demo, the odds of it returning are low. Unless the move to Canada is saving more money than I think. Then 7 million and 2.5 demo might be enough.

One of the problems with Season 2 of FRINGE is they ended last season with a teaser that we would see what the other universe was like (where the World Trade Center still stands and the Whitehouse was destroyed and rebuilt. Plus there are too many stand alone episodes. Next week they get an OBSERVER centric episode – finally! He is the link between the 2 worlds.

Of course 9pm Thursdays is a very tough time slot, so that may factor into FOX’s decision as well.

If I had a choice between FRINGE and FLASHFORWARD, I would definitely rather have FRINGE return for Season 3. The characters of FRINGE are more interesting. Particularly Walter Bishop.

  198. Sandro says:

Bill Gorman, what I mean is, is that fair that a certain market won’t air a show for a football game in the show time slot? People in SF just lose the episode, and the markets don’t?

  199. X-R.G. says:

    CSI…trilogy was well done…do another!

  200. kelly says:

I think they should put Vampire Diaries on at 9:00 see if it still does well. I would also like to see how Supernatural does in the 8:00 time slot. I think it would be an Eye opening revelation. That is why it will never happen.

  201. Antiseptic says:

what’s so special about Greys Anatomy? is it an artefact of an aging population obsessing about hospitalisation?
