The CW to Rebroadcast All 10 Episodes of Freshman Hit “The Vampire Diaries,”

Airing Two Episodes Each Night (8:00-10:00p.m. ET/PT) From

Monday, Dec. 14 Through Friday, Dec. 18

November 16, 2009 (Burbank, CA) ? The CW Network today announced plans for a special Vampire Diaries Marathon starting on Monday, December 14.  This week-long event offers fans the opportunity to relive The Vampire Diaries saga from the very beginning and allows the uninitiated the chance to get into one of TV’s breakout hits.

Airing two episodes each night from Monday, Dec. 14 through Friday, Dec. 18 (8:00-10:00p.m. ET/PT) beginning with the season premiere episode, The CW will rebroadcast every episode of its smash hit The Vampire Diaries in consecutive order across its entire primetime schedule that week.  After just 10 episodes, The Vampire Diaries has become The CW’s most-watched and highest-rated series among adults 18-34 this season.

Based on the best-selling series of books by L. J. Smith, The Vampire Diaries is the story of two vampire brothers obsessed with the same beautiful girl, and battling to control the fate of an entire town.  Beautiful high school student Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev, “DeGrassi: The Next Generation”) has no way of knowing that the handsome and mysterious new boy in school, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley, “Mad Men”), is a centuries-old vampire.  While Stefan struggles to live peacefully among humans, his older brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder, “Lost”) is the embodiment of vampire violence and brutality.  Now these two vampire brothers ? one good, one evil ? are at war for Elena’s soul and for the souls of her friends, family and all the residents of the small town of Mystic Falls.

The Vampire Diaries is from Alloy Entertainment and Bonanza Productions Inc in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios with executive producers Kevin Williamson (“Scream,” “Dawson’s Creek”), Julie Plec (“Kyle XY,” “Wasteland”), Leslie Morgenstein (“Gossip Girl,” “Private”) and Bob Levy (“Gossip Girl,” “Privileged”).

  3. Tar says:

cool will give the show room to grow and change the CW into what it might become in future.. vampire only network

  4. Tar says:

i assume the accountants wouldnt let dawn run a melrose week

  5. The_GodfatherSJP says:

    Ummm….

….since when does running a marathon for a particular show on a broadcast network make sense?

I can understand if this is a Cable net or a niche net, say SyFy, running a genre show DURING the Holidays (December 14-18th ain’t Christmas time just yet). But it’s a series of repeats, in essence. Are the rest of their shows doing that poorly?

Help me out here, guys. Is this stupidity of normal practice?

  6. RM89 says:

    Snooze…

  7. james says:

Stupidity and Dawn go hand in hand.

  8. Tar says:

VD is on a two month hiatus after this months episode

  9. Tar says:

    this week’s* episode

  10. Joselito says:

Oh yes CW knows its a smashing hit!

  11. Anonymous says:

Looks like Robert/Bill can get a head-start on the ratings grid for the CW – 0.5s across the board, baby!

  12. nick says:

    big question here, who cares?

  13. Tar says:

OFFTOPIC but ABC cut romantically challanged down to 7 episodes

  14. ebas says:

Question: If this news is so boring, why bother clicking on it, are your lives so dull that you have nothing better to do?

  15. Rose says:

Now THIS is an interesting way to promote and nurture a promising new show. It takes a week that would have likely been all reruns anyway and creates an event out of it. Great idea!

  16. Brad says:

    FYI –

The Beautiful Life will run all completed episodes as well. Likely sometime in December.

  17. Tar says:

TBL will air in the summer

  18. tdot says:

Im actually kinda happy…it’s all my friends talk about
I watched the Halloween episode and it was pretty good
I’ll give it the old college try

  19. James says:

Well, I’ve wanted to catch up on the show. And I know a lot of people that have. It’s already averaging 4 million viewers and a 2.0. What if it goes to 5 million and a 2.5?

  20. Dan says:

Brad – why would u think TBL would air in December. Im thinking July for the 4 episode burn off.

And VD is the CW’s first hit drama series so it makes sense theyd do this.

  21. Aaron says:

I rolled my eyes once I saw this show’s premise, but the response it’s received is intriguing. I’ll probably catch the first night of episodes and go from there.

  22. Patrick says:

Hey I dont know about a whole week but im all for it since it will be I think feb before it comes back.

  23. thedemonhog says:

    This should be interesting.

  24. mark wood says:

The funny this is this is something the WB used to do, occasionally) during Winter Hiatus. I don’t think UPN ever did this. So for those who wish the CW was more like the WB, well here’s one for you.

  25. Rich says:

@mark wood i do remember The WB doing that, but i never did watch UPN network before, well i take that back i did watch it when Buff the vampire slayer got cancelled and UPN picked it up for 2 seasons but that was the only time.

  26. Mel says:

I gave TVD a try and I’m glad I did. Its much better than I thought it would be, and its been quite entertaining. The WB used to do this batching/event type of thing. I think its agreat idea. I highly reccomend that people catch up.

  27. Anil says:

Wow, amazing. A first from CW. Lovin the show so much.

  28. lainey says:

I don’t see what’s so unusual about it, either. Other networks take their most successful shows and use them as filler during what has usually been a down time for the nets-CBS does this all the time with NCIS, or the CSI’s, and even The Mentalist. The CW doesn’t have as many shows to choose from to start with, and VD is their biggest “hit,” so it definitely is a an attempt to showcase the brightest star in their little galaxy, so to speak.

  29. Uh, when the hell was Paul Wesley *ever* on “Mad Men”? It’s not at all listed on his IMDb or Wiki credits, although he looks familiar. But he is similar to Kurt, which I know for a fact he’s not. Anybody got a clue or was this a gigantic misidentification?

  30. Petrie says:

Are most other shows in reruns that week? Because if so, for me, that sounds like a good idea. I picked FF over VD but now with the slowness of FF, I have really considered switching back if I wasn’t so far behind. I think this is a good idea.

  31. X-R.G. says:

CW’s new slogan: all crap…all the time…This Dec on the CW

  32. Bryan says:

cool. I watched the first two episodes and kind of lost track of it. I’ve been hearing good things lately and have been meaning to catch up so this will be the perfect opportunity
