Tuesday cable: Sons of Anarchy beats the forgotten and ties The Jay Leno Show with adults 18-49

Tuesday night’s Sons of Anarchy tied The Jay Leno Show with a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating and beat ABC’s the forgotten (1.8).   Tuesdays are Jay Leno’s best ratings  of the week, too (so yeah, SOA’s 18-49 numbers beat the Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday airings of The Jay Leno Show).

I know everyone is enamored with those kinds of comparisons, but  I want people to watch SOA because it is a great show. Next year SOA might do even bigger numbers as people watch the season one and season two DVDs between seasons and get hooked.  Season one was really good, but the second season has been tremendous with great episodes piled on top of great episodes.  Only two episodes to go in season two (the finale will be another 90 minute episode).

Here are some Tuesday cable highlights (looks like “The Prisoner” leveled off at ~950K for the finale – about the same as it did Monday night) via “Travis Yanan“:

I just bought the first season DVD of SOA and will watch it this weekend, I’m intrigued with the buzz the show is receiving.

And also as I posted in the Tuesday Broadcast ratings, I think SOA is also hurting Good Wife’s numbers.

The Hills W18-34 rating is high, I bet the CW is envious

Good to see sons of Anarchy doing well – I think it’s hands down the best drama on TV right now. This week’s episode was awesome, it had such tight writing, and very little wasted dialogue…i think I may have liked it even better than the 90-minute special leading up to it.

Also, I loved that they used the Two Gallants song “Fly Low Carrion Crow” – it’s the song that plays when Piney is at his house and holding the gun in his hand…such a great ‘Americana’ tune that fits the show perfectly.

I watched the first 3 or 4 episodes of SOA last year and was unimpressed so I gave up on it. Everyone seems to be saying that this season is amazing. Should I give it another shot? Will I like it even though I didn’t care for the first few episodes of the series?

  4. Dave, I agree with you that the first four episodes were not that great last year, though I really liked the second half of the first season. Hopefully without offending anyone who loved S1, I am enjoying season 2 *much* more.

  5. Lester's Fan says:

I bet it’s all the promotion in Italy that helped SOA! ;)

  6. Hot Pocket says:

Sons of Anarchy is literally the best show on TV and I’m not surprised its beat NBC and ABC. Only bad thing about it is The Forgotten is a great show that needs the same attention too. Leno needs to just go! Lopez Tonight and Chelsea Lately have become the only destinations for my late night fix.

SOA is just such an addicting show and its brilliantly written with great characters and the actors who portray them. I haven’t seen a show this good since The Wire on HBO earlier in this decade. What helps Sons is the TVMA rating as the limitations aren’t there and its so free to be the quality show that it needs to be.

  7. CaryN says:

SOA is a tremendous show. Excellent writing, acting & is always full of surprises. Best show since the heyday of The Sopranos.

  8. Carlee says:

Sons of Anarchy is my favorite show on TV right now – even over Dexter, imho. Definitely deserves an Emmy or two, but I still think The Shield (another show SOA creator Kurt Sutter wrote for) should get the most awards this year. Will that happen? Probably not. Either way, Sutter is a great talent and I look forward to catching future seasons of SOA and anything else his brain churns out.

    Sherri (10pm)
    - 0.570 million viewers
    - 0.5/1 HH
    - 0.2/1 A18-49

    Sherri (10:30pm)
    - 0.587 million viewers
    - 0.5/1 HH
    - 0.2/1 A18-49

Does anyone know if these were “new” episodes or just repeats?
    If new…..yikes.

  10. Visan says:

SOA is da isht! Proof a tightly-written, fast-paced show is capable of tremendous character development! The acting, in toto, is nonpareil!

    Kudos to the booty-kickin’ ratings!

  11. Eric says:

And this show hasn’t been given a third (Or fourth, fifth, sixth, etc.) yet why?

. . .or has it? I haven’t been keeping up lately.

  12. jbhoneebee says:

    about time SOA gets recognized!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Evil says:

Sons of Anarchy is genius. But from the network that brought us The Shield (and one of the main men behind The Shield), what else would you expect? While it may not be on the same level as the big THE’s (Sopranos, Shield, Wire) or Mad Men/Breaking Bad .. it’s on a really fast lane to become as good as those shows. If it can keep this quality, we have another masterpiece of contemporary telvesion.

  14. Mike says:

Season 3 they need a story arc that will bring Vic in from the shield as a contract heavy for the 19er’s.

Now that would be an awesome story line! Watch the ratings!

  15. Mike says:

Or thinking about this, even better would be to bring in Aceveda as the new Governor with a get tough on biker crime agenda and hire Vic to run interference based on their past history.

Lots and lots of story potential.

    Oh well I can dream can’t I?

  16. JanieJones says:

Sons of Anarchy deserves every bit of praise it’s gotten this season. It is definitely one of the best television shows right now. Sutter has raised the bar for the series. Katey Sagal is definitely worthy of an Emmy for her performance this year. The whole cast, crew, writer’s and director’s have been nothing short of awesome. Sutter has created an amazing show. I cannot say enough good things about the show.
The 1st half of the 1 season was okay but evolved into something so much more in it’s latter half. I try and tell everyone about this show.

  17. Paul says:

I’ve been seeing loads of crap about the Hills being cancelled, it aint going anywhere with a 3.5 among women 18-34 haters.

  18. johnthemon says:

    wow, Sherri really bombed.

  19. Lisa Darcy says:

Love the show Love the actors Love Jax Love Katey Just love it lol

KEEP THE GOOD STUFF COMING PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE

  20. rodh says:

    This show is great!
    Sopranos on Harleys!
Dialogue that sounds real…acting is superb.
You got me hooked on a drama and that is damn near impossible these days!
