A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 33% currently, from 28% at the same point in 2008. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

Maybe this will bring back the infamous ‘TV-Movie’ to network TV. I doubt it, though, I do think they’ll start to air movies every Friday in awhile.
It’s a shame this brought in solid ratings. I’d much rather watch Supernanny and Wife Swap
Well, not every movie is Shrek, didn’t Shrek 2 is the second highest movie of all time in the US? and the #1 animated movie ever?
The Friday lineup will probably stay intact awhile longer. ABC will save the movies for Saturday, starting Dec. 12 once the college football regular season is done.
Well duh it did well. It’s a special and its shrek. Anyone who was just flipping through channels probably stopped to watch.
Kind of amazing that it did this well seeing how Shrek the Third is the worst of all the Shrek films. The others were actually good.
This is a really BAD film.
If only Ugly Betty could get those type of ratings, I’d be happy.
Anyone know when ABC is announcing their mid-season schedule?
Shrek is pretty much the weakest of all the 3 Shreks, but I guess people didn’t really care.
This was the worst Shrek lol. But its Shrek so obviously it got viewers.
At least Ugly Betty is good lol.
Maybe this is an indication that the networks should try going back to programming family/kids shows on Friday nights. For many seasons as I recall ABC did well on Friday with it’s TGIF family line up of sitcoms. Let’s face it I think kids probably make up a large number of TV watchers on a Friday night.
When ABC displaces a regular show they should indicate when the displaced episode will be run. Did not need to see Shrek III again. Missed Betty. When will I see #7?
