53 Responses to “Soap Opera Ratings: One Life To Live, Days Of Our Lives, All My Children Up”

  1. BF says:

Not a good week for ATWT… Hope this past week was better!

I read on the SON message forums that it is rumored that ATWT will be renewed!

  2. BF says:

What does every1 think, do u think 11/16-20 was a good week for ATWT?

  3. My wife is going to be very upset if ATWT goes under. These things tend to have loyal audiences so it surprises me ATWT’s figures would vary by that much week to week.

  4. BF says:

All I have to say is keep watching ATWT. I know there’s a 2 PM war between that & OLTL. Just think, Passions was low-rated for a few years in a row. ATWT will not become another GL for sure.

Personally, I think all viewers should count (including DVR viewers like my mom).

  5. BF says:

This just in: AMC fires head-writer!

  6. DukeBX says:

What is it with Wednesdays? Seems that’s the day that most soaps get their biggest numbers?

  7. DenverDean says:

Wow. Obama’s preemption really hurt DAYS. I don’t think CBS is going to dump ATWT so soon after GL esp since it’s really gotten it’s act together.

  8. rob says:

DukeBX, Wednesday was Veterans Day and a lot of people had off from work and school. Thats why Wednesday is soo high for all soaps especially Days and OLTL.

  9. Blake says:

days really kicked but on wednesday. it beat b+b by 100,000 plus. I wish it hadnt been preempted on tuesday though. If it hadn;t been for that it would have really been up-by about 600,000 or more.

  10. TR says:

I personally would love ATWT to go away because that would help OLTL. That is the ONLY timeslot with 3 soaps. ABC should factor in the fact that GH and AMC don’t have competition and so OLTL is holding up well against that. (we just need to repeat those Wednesday numbers more!

  11. Anna says:

    sweet

  12. Doug (2) says:

GH and AMC both have competition, TR. AMC goes up against Days in most markets. There are no “safe” timeslots, and if ATWT goes away, OLTL is going to be alone at the bottom of the ratings, making it an even bigger target. And if ATWT does go away, it in no way guarantees that its viewers will move to another soap.

    Nice numbers for the week.

  13. rodshooter says:

The soaps needed a huge week like this. The only soap that seems to have its problems with ratings is B&B which keeps on bleeding viewers even during stunts.

Soaps have gone through the recession with only one canceled soap, if it can get through that then it can get through anything.

ATWT is looking more and more likely to being renewed, I think CBS can handle three soaps so it shouldn’t be a problem for them like GL was.

    DAYS IS HUGE!

  14. Chris says:

Doug, really, AMC is up against Days in both markets? I live in Chicago, and Days is up against One Life to Live. I lived in LA recently and I believe it was the same there.

OLTL and Days are my two soaps, so whatever helps them is fine by me.

  15. DukeBX says:

    true. thanks rob.

  16. DukeBX says:

I remember watching all the soaps on abc when i was younger. Days was the first real soap outside of abc i watched.(on and off with Santa Barbara)glad they they are having a good season so far. started re-watching Days again.

  17. michael says:

first of all the only two soaps im liking right now is atwt and oltl ok now i think both of these shows should not be at the bottom cause they have great shorelines right now the reason why the rating for these 2 soaps are down at the bottom is because nobody knows about the story-lines i belevie if these two soap go on the talk show they will get more people tune in. now i dont think oltl going anywhere cause if they were going to get cancel they would not be moving to new york city and it expense to move there so i believe that nobody know the story that going on i hope that atwt improve next week they should cause molly came and she was on 4 of the 5 day that a great thing i hope b&b will tune in now since she is on

  18. Markets says:

DAYS comes on at 1pm in just about almost every market except a few like Denver where I believe it airs at 2pm.

It really depends what soaps air at 1pm in your market.

  19. Lisa says:

Well, the fact is that ALL of the soaps have competition. It might not be another soap, but it could well be a more popular show. So no show is getting a free pass, unless it airs against dead air. Which, you know, is rather unlikely.

And I don’t want anything else to be cancelled, whether I watch it or not.

  20. tk says:

why is it that when it comes to soaps, total viewers and not the target audience of 18-49 matter?
OLTL is always in top 3-4 among key women targets yet there is talk of it being cancelled when something like B&B trails in 6th place always behing ATWT only.

  21. Theseday_99 says:

Michael I am an oltl fan as well. They are already in ny. They are just moving to the old AMC studio, as AMC moves to L.A. While I am not a fan of all the soaps, I do not want any to go away because they are all a part of daytime. Good luck to them all, especially my faves GH and OLTL!

  22. Tyler says:

what about young and restless? does it have competition in any other markets? cause in denver, i think it stands alone and is up against no one :)

  23. Julia3 says:

Bill Gorman, is OLTL in danger of being canceled? Through what year has it been renewed? There have been a few times when OLTL was right at the bottom of the ratings. And I’m actually enjoying the show right now.

What do you think? Will OLTL will renewed?

  24. Bill Gorman says:

Julia3, I really don’t keep close enough track of Soap Opera ratings to guess what’s likely to happen in the future.

  25. Shem says:

I predict DAYS will overthrow B&B by year-end.

  26. rob says:

Julia3, OLTL isnt going anywhere right now. It gets great ratings with the women demo. Plus it reached 3 million viewers on Wednesday. ATWT is the soap in danger as its the only soap not to go up during one of the biggest weeks for soaps.

  27. Julia3 says:

Rob, thanks so much for that info! I just saw OLTL recently like at the bottom of the total viewers. And that surprised me a lot!

Bill, no problem! Thanks for replying!

  28. Arroyo says:

Only a matter of time before we see DAYS become Daytime’s number 2 soap… … With the baby revelation last week I’m sure ratings will soar, now were on our edge of out seat with the fall out… keep it up DAYS!

  29. Errol says:

The traditional timeslots for soaps are dependent on the NY affiliate as those affiliates are the biggest and each networks flagship station. With that said, here are the correct timeslots for each soap.

    12:30 PM
THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS (CBS)

    1:00 PM
    ALL MY CHILDREN (ABC)
    DAYS OF OUR LIVES (NBC)

    1:30 PM
THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL (CBS)

    2:00 PM
    AS THE WORLD TURNS (CBS)
    ONE LIFE TO LIVE (ABC)

    3:00 PM
    GENERAL HOSPITAL

  30. Errol says:

    *GENERAL HOSPITAL (ABC)

  31. ohiogirl says:

Thanks for finally getting the Friday ratings up. I enjoy following the ’soap-operatic’ saga of which tradgedy-laden storyline will garner more viewers each week. It’s also a good barometer of who has a great story going on, so I can tune in here and there.
Overall, it appears that Days is the most successful soap right now, as they have slayed the AMC dragon of competition, and are holding their own against shows with little competition, such as Y&R, and GH, as well as popular B&B, which owes much of it’s success to it’s tie-in with Y&R…(a true Y&R spin-off). My Nashville market has Days up against GH,and former soap GL, and I believe it is up against Y&R and AMC in Cleveland and most markets, as Y&R kicks in a half hour before Days…so all in all, Days is the one to beat, as it appears to be creating ratings havoc for the shows it is competing against…LOVE the baby switch, and watching the news lately, it’s not all that far-fetched!

  32. Rob R says:

DAYS beat Bold and Beautiful on Wednesday, when they had the long-awaited reveal to Sami that her baby was still alive. The fans tuned in big-time for that scene as it played out on Wednesday and Thursday of that week.

  33. BF says:

I think last wk was a better wk for ATWT, don’t u think?

  34. TimsDale4ever says:

Yep, World Turns on the bottom — as well it should be. The return of West OBVIOUSLY hasn’t helped the situation. Let’s face it: this show is boring as all get out. I can say that because I was a huge fan from 1978-1999. This show continues and continues to put too much emphasis on Jack and Carly as it has for the past 12 years. Break up, get together, break up, get together — enough already! Too much time is alloted to the 18 year old relationships also. I really feel this show has a more mature audience and all of the above is not what they want to see. Where are the mult-layered storylines (from the 80’s/90’s – when this show was toward the top) that involve so much more than just 2 people hooking up with one another? The mysteries? The mysterious new comer? (that’s not 18). They “might” have something with the addition of Pelfrey and his story — it looks like it has potential. It’s way, way, way past time for some new blood and new stories on this floundering show or I’m afraid the WORLD will not turn many more years!

  35. Joe says:

Go OLTL and AMC. so proud of these shows. they have been pulling out the drama like no other shows. Keep it up

  36. michael says:

i just hope to god atwt dont get cancel there ratings have to come up i just hope that last week more people watch it it was very good last week and they are turning around it need to get a 2.0 for about 3 day out the week if they can do that i think they will be o.k. and add more cast members and show more vet. gosh i dont no when i seen nacy i think they will show her today or tommorow im just keeping my fingers cross and hope the ratings go up

  37. DukeBX says:

if Y&R ever comes off the number #1 position,i wonder if someone not from CBS has a shot at being top soap.would have to skip two soaps.B&B a pretty good bridesmaid.

  38. Anthony says:

ABC does not care if OLTL is higher in the ratings they only care about AMC and GH. I hope none of the soaps left get canceled. ATWT and OLTL are both on the chopping block. I watch all of the soaps left and the ones I am getting into the most right now are ATWT, OLTL, and DAYS.

  39. BF says:

ATWT and OLTL are NOT on the chopping block. I have been through this: CBS and ABC both can handle 3 soaps!

  40. Ilse says:

People are really watching the ratings lately, look at the number of comments this week! And it’s getting more every week.
It looks like ATWT ratings are bad this week, but that’s just because other soaps went up so much. 2.4 million isn’t that bad for ATWT, it’s pretty good.

  41. michael says:

llse they should have went up this week cause molly was on 4 of the 5 days last week and alot of her fans watch b&b but i just hope they went up this week i feel they had a better week but you never know

  42. luvmygreys says:

I haven’t watched Days since they got rid of the older characters and made it the Sammy show. I have been a friend of the Young and Restless but the baby switch has me bummed it was so over the top and has been done to death. If it keeps going the way it has been I will give up the soaps and spend more time on my hobbies.

  43. Eddie says:

I agree with most of the DAYS posts, with the addition of a couple Of Passions stars and bringing back Dr Carly Manning (Crystal Chappell), DAYS is rising up the charts, I think by next year DAYS will be a close number 2 behind Y & R. Good job DAYS!

  44. Ilse says:

Michael, didn’t know that about Molly (I live in Holland, we are 2 years behind and I don’t watch the current episodes). The ratings should have gone up that week with Molly on screen. I hope that last week was better….but I don’t know….I thought that 9 – 12 nov would have been better too.

  45. Michael says:

The reason why the rating went down cause the show the young cast and they don’t do well except Mick Jason hegood but I don’t. Care about the others

  46. Julia says:

Well I have watched many of the stories since I was a little girl and Y&R first aired in 1973. I can agree that Y&R AND DAYS have the best storylines going right now. I truly think given time that DAYS could give them a run for that number 1 position. DAYS seems to finally be on the right track!

  47. cher says:

I am a CBS watcher and have switched to other networks from time to time, and unfortunately high ratings don’t equal the best show. Although I am a fan of both Y&R and Bold and the Beautiful, I have to say the best show on daytime is As The World Turns without a doubt. It has an amazing talent pool that would would run rings around some of these other actors if given the opportunity. Take Maura West for example,OMG! the lady gives Oscar performances on a regular! Quite honestly, I am surprised she has not left the show yet for the big screen, but because I’m selfish I’m glad she’s still there, lol. The thing that’s hurt this show is the writers just doing stupid things in the past. But I must say the writing has been amazing recently and it seems they are trying to fix a lot of the characters that were ruined and getting back to making ATWT must see TV. I really feel it will be around for at least two more years and I am so looking forward to see the writers get it right.

  48. Shem says:

Days will be #2. Y&R needs to get dethroned; it got really nonsensical now. I lost interest in OLTL.

  49. Ilse says:

I agree with you Cher: ATWT writers messed up big time in the past and that’s what’s standing in their way. It’s easy to loose audience, but it’s so hard to get those people back watching. ATWT really deserves it, but it’s going to be hard…really hard.
I hope they never ever loose Maura! ATWT couldn’t possibly survive that.

  50. Brad says:

I think that the best soaps right now are DAYS, GH, and OLTL. I think Days might have the most “zest” at the moment, but the GH storyline with Franco is pretty intriguing, as well as the Mitch Laurence storyline of OLTL.

I watch most of the soaps (except ATWT, though i have seen it a few times), and AMC, which i rarely see anymore. I think Y&R is rather boring this past whole year, and I deffinitely think Days, B&B, GH and OLTL are better, as of right now. I would like to see a different soap at number 1…

by the way…when are the ratings for the 16-20 going to be released!? its sweeps week, these are a must have!!!

  51. rob says:

Brad, probably due to holiday weekend, they are delayed. They should definitely be in by tomorrow.

  52. Brad says:

i was just thinking the same thing, i was forgetting that it was a holiday week! thanks rob!

  53. Joe says:

What would happen if the networks showed soaps on the weekends? more people would be home thus higher ratings. i agree, they should count the DVR ratings.
