It’s always fascinated me that our site gets as many visitors from outside the US (~20%) as it does.

  1. Mandy says:

Well, it shouldn’t be hard to figure out why people visit from all over the world. I’m Australian and want to know how shows are doing in the U.S. If they fail HERE, it doesn’t matter because there are ways and means of seeing them regardless of that, but if they fail in the U.S then it’s bye-bye TV show. I like to know if a show is bombing or doing well before I get attached.

  2. baqinardo says:

I guess i’m the only one from Indonesia, huh? haha…

  3. Kyall says:

    Australia FTW! :D Haha.

  4. Jeremy says:

Im glad im not the only one from the Philippines who visit this site :)

  5. thedemonhog says:

Yeah Canada! Someday, we will overtake you, America, in the TVbytheNumbers rankings.

  6. F. says:

Congrats TV# — U have become my daily fix as much as my Nikki Finke’s column. Bravo!

  7. gasbo says:

Also from Australia and Mandy said it all, and I have issues with our nutty tv programmers

  8. Matheus says:

    Brasil!
Even though we don’t really have english as a second language, it’s nice to say a lot of us reading this site, as we also enjoy american tv shows. Nice not be alone here =D

  9. Raymond says:

I agree with Mandy 100%! I’m from Australia too (though residing in Canada atm). I don’t care when they air in Australia (I don’t ever turn on the TV to a channel it’s always on AV) so it’s important to know whether they’ll stay on or not!

  10. Angelica says:

    Yeah, Matheus
We rule! And anxiously wait for LOST!!!! =P

  11. Mumbo says:

Well, almost 5% of the outside-the-US traffic is from Canada, who gets American broadcast networks, so.

But still, 15% is a decent amount.

  12. Gaaa says:

Why Latvia isnt on top? Am i only one who is using this site from Latvia? :D

  13. Bill Gorman says:

Mumbo, interesting to note that we get more *visits* by population from Canadians than Americans!

  14. ruudisss says:

No, Gaaa, you surely are not!
Forshi,ka es neesmu vieniigais, kas sho lapu apskata! :D

  15. JACK says:

    no Hong Kong !
    haha….

  16. mike says:

True that in Canada we mostly get US programming. That makes is so annoying that we cannot get access to the video on websites like hulu, nbc, cbs, etc as we pay for those channel on our cable bill.

And our population is about 10% of the US so we should be getting 10% of the website traffic :)

Oh and I am typing this on the Google Operating System ChormeOS running in a virtual box emulating Linux Ubuntu on a windows 7 machine. Tell me how that shows up browers/Operating system wise ;)

It renders the site just fine but on a Quad Core CPU its performance is really bad.

  17. Dennis says:

So I’m the only Swiss guy here…

    Good, Swiss suck.

  18. BonesAddicted says:

Glad to see Italy in the Top Ten! :)

  19. Dario says:

    Croatia! :)

  20. tw says:

yeah germany is the top non english country.

I go to this site because i only watch us series (mostly) for one to improve my english skills and on the other hand the german translations are mostly shitty.

German series often use the same premise as a us series but with a much smaller budget.

  21. Altair says:

I’m Italian and I didn’t believe that we were that much on this site.

  22. Alison says:

I love this site! Here in the UK, we see a lot of US shows and I like to know how they are doing because they can be yanked off our schedules as quick as a flash! New shows here are Flashforward (although the ratings are declining here), True Blood and my current favourite The Mentalist. Unfortunately we are always behind the US in showing the new seasons. We don’t get Desperate Housewives until Jan and season 2 of The Mentalist until February! However, Sky will show Lost pretty quick after it airs which is good!

I love to know which are the new ‘must see’ US shows and how my old favourites are doing.

  23. UH says:

Wow Italy close to a HUGE country like Brasil :) , however awesome the results from Saint Kitt and … ( nevis I assume ? ) …less then 50.000 people ! ( population)

  24. Krista says:

OMG, there are quite a lot of people from Estonia:D
    That’s great!
I’m Estonian but I live in the UK so I’m glad that both countries are represented.
    Elagu Eesti!
    Nice:)
I visit this site since I’m a huge fan of TV and I want to see how my loved shows are doing:)

  25. Bgun says:

baqinardo, I’m from Indonesia too, but I live in China now.

  26. Victor Hugo says:

Yes, Brazil is number #7!!! I Love my country and Tvbythenumbers!!!!

  27. Vetinari says:

I’m not sure that Canadians really should count as outside the U.S. though. They are just unarmed Americans with health care.

  28. Theoacme says:

Gaaa, ruudisss – welcome to America, and could you do something for us…

…could Latvia come up with an original concept for a television program, and make sure we can see it in at least English subtitles…

    …ja or vota? :D

  29. Adam says:

    Hungary :D

  30. Remus says:

    Representing Finland! ^^

  31. ruudisss says:

    :D We can try!
But we have even worst situation here! All what people watch are news and some political-researching stuff… I recall only one time when something from USA primetime was in monthly top 20 in Latvia! House season 2 final and first episode of season 3… if I remember correctly!
And we make some terrible copy/paste of USA reality… like Are u smarter than 5th grade, Dancing with the Stars, Who wants to be a millionare and things like that.

  32. Baqinardo says:

@ Bgun. haha.. good, another Indonesian. well, actually i’m not in Indonesia either. I’m currently in Malaysia.

I never missed single update from this site. This site totally cheering up my day. Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday’s shows line up are rockz…

  33. Jayme says:

From the UK and just thought I’d say Hi to my country friends. Whedonesque made me find the site and I love the way everythings presented and all that so I cant stop coming back.

  34. Jon says:

Yay for UK, It’s not surprising that the three top English speaking countries are in the top five was surprised that Canada was second though.

  35. Julia says:

Vetinari, there are more guns per capita in Canada than the US. Let’s call them polite Americans with health care. ;)

Bill, can you explain what the index means?

  36. Monica says:

Yay for Italy! And congrats on the site, found it while I was looking for Chuck survival chances and never left!

  37. GSFABC says:

    Germany!
I didn’t think, that many Germans know this site.
I got here, because of Scrubs. I just hobe this Show will never end. @tw yeah German translation sucks!

  38. GSFABC says:

    Sorry, I meant: … I just HOPE …

  39. kingofpain says:

    Belgium…

  40. Shouzheng says:

    No Malaysia? HAHA…

  41. Zee says:

From UK here, I love this site, I’m obsessed with ratings and show budgets, sales etc so this site is perfect for me.
the greatest show on earth returns……..LOST 2/2/2010!

  42. tio_john says:

    i’m from Brazil.

    I looove tvbythenumbers!

    congrats!

  43. Skouse says:

    I’m from Australia!
I usually come to this site for my House md fix!
We need house back down under!

  44. Theoacme says:

Hmmm – ruudisss, you missed Ja or Vota – your rev of Deal or No Deal, which had an special episode from there, with Howie Mandel visiting, broadcast here in the US…

…back to Dr. Gregory House, and his megalomania…

…imagine Hugh Laurie intoning the battle cry of the Brain, when we ask him what he is going to do tonight…

“…the same thing I do every night – TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!”

    …eh-oh – I’m sorry, Brain, I should have typed “THE Brain” :o

…anyway, House appears to be doing better in terms of world domination than either the Brain or Stewie :)

  45. Joss's Biggest Fan says:

Menschen in Deutschland: Ich liebe so viele Dinge aus Ihrem Land! Deutsch Shepherds! Deutsch Schokoladenkuchen! Deutsch Masern sind meiner bevorzugten Art von Masern! Nun müssen Sie wieder den Gefallen und schauen Dollhouse! Wenn Sie Dollhouse zu sehen, werden wir Sie verzeihen Hitler!

  46. Theoacme says:

Skouse – you mean Murdoch didn’t do a package deal for House? He has it on FOX here in the US, and Sky in the UK…

…and per the Ten Network site, they carry House in Australia – and even have streaming episodes.

Hmmm – House’s quest for total world domination may have hit a speed bump :(

  47. r2zv2n says:

    hey where is ROMANIA:)….

  48. Skouse says:

Na they have house here on Ten but the c%€k heads are not airing it until next year!
    I’m stuck watching it online.
But I’m still waiting for it to air on my tv:)
    house to rule the world!
    Or in house’s words
    MUHAHAhAHA!
    :p

  49. Theoacme says:

JBF – We beat England, but lost to Canada in that one – so we’ll have mandatory, universal, single-payer healthcare for less money than we’re paying now if we try 1812 again…

…as well as really good national hockey broadcasts – roll on, Don Cherry!

…eh-oh – remember the movie 1941? I wonder if they could do a movie called “1812″, with corsets, cleavage, cannons, the Observers, a bit of Nic Cage from National Treasure, Hugh Laurie as a surgeon, Linus Roache as the President, and Eliza Dushku in corsets with lots of cleavage…

…just no Will Ferrell or anyone from The Office, please :D

  50. Theoacme says:

…Skouse – I’m sorry to have to tell you this – but my wife and I get to watch House on Mondays (first run)…

…and, since we didn’t start watching House until last season, and one of our local TV stations here in Minneapolis airs repeats in syndication on Sunday nights, we get three hours of House per week for free, with no caching or lagging…

…plus, I must thank you and Australia for sending to us what has become a beloved institution here in Minnesota – Jason Davis and “On The Road” (a local travelogue programme) – his programme page, with links to some streaming episodes, is here: http://kstp.com/article/26/

  51. Dingo says:

Julia, getting 100 on Quantcast’s index means a group is as likely to visit TVBTN as the average Web site. A 150 means three people from the group (the group could be men, Estonians or college graduates, for example) come here for every two people to the average site. A 50 means one person visits TVBTN compared to two elsewhere.

I got my newest blog on Quantcast after hearing about the site here. Life 2000 has been at Quantcast less than a month though so I don’t yet have a lot of the demographic information. I look forward to seeing a lot more numbers for my blog’s traffic next week.

  52. Dave says:

As someone from the UK too, who’s been posting here for a while, I have to say that since finding TVBTN, I have learned so much about how the US TV networks treat their shows. In England, it’s quite different in that once a show gets commissioned, all the episodes are filmed before any get televised. So in England we always get complete, if shorter, seasons of anywhere from 6 to 13 episodes of our home grown shows.

But as Mandy, poster #1, says – if a favourite show does well in the US, it doesn’t really matter how it does in our native countries because there’s always other ways to watch our favourite shows if they’re not shown here. For example, I still don’t believe any UK tv channel has picked up Castle yet. But as Mandy also says, it’s nice to know how a show’s doing before getting too attached to it, e.g. any of this season’s new NBC dramas which have mostly tanked meaning that the awesomeness of Chuck returns two months early.

Robert/Bill… do I get bonus points for mentioning Chuck and Castle in the same post?

  53. Chmarin says:

    Croatia FTW! :D

  54. Joulumuori says:

    I’m also from Finland

  55. Skouse says:

    —Theoacme— your making me cry!:(
I hate ausie tv. They keep shoving 2&half men and NCIS down our throat!
Although we do have some nice new channels with new programms
P.S. “on the road” never heard of it. SOZ

  56. Jim says:

China made it to the list.
    So glad!
US drama is so popular here. I can say there R more Chinese watched Prison Break than American. I am big fan of ABC shows.
I check TVbytheNumbers almost everyday on my blackberry.

  57. Johnny says:

There’s a reason they call it the World Wide Web.

  58. yisascry says:

I´m spanish and love this website!!

  59. Ricardo says:

Not many people from Portugal then.

  60. Theoacme says:

Skouse – you have rugby league (NRL) and Aussie Rules footy, which I would give my eyeteeth to see on non-streaming TV here…

…it’s so bad for rugby here, they don’t even broadcast union :(

For those who haven’t the foggiest notion of what I am talking about, rugby is two versions of football that Australia is a perennial world power at, which, if public fan interest and sports page inches here in the US were translated into ratings, would get a 0.001 / 0 demo rating…

…too bad, because I think it’s a lot tougher of a game than what we Americans call “football”…

Skouse – are there any demographic ratings for NRL available? It would be interesting to see…

  61. Eduardo Peixoto says:

I’m also from Brazil, it’s nice to see a lot of brazilian people around here.

I think that the reason that we, from Brazil, like programming from outside our country is because our broadcast channels have a really poor schedule, based on annoying unintelligent soap operas and some bad-made comedies. It’s sad, but it’s true. Even our reality TV is poor.

But we have some rare good TV, like some good TV series produced by Globosat and HBO – especially HBO.

  62. Radu says:

    Hey,
I’m from Romania. My country is not on the list by I’ll try to tell everybody about this great site. I hope we’ll be in your next top.

  63. Losteech says:

Damn, it seems that I’m the only Macedonian that visits you. :)

Well, I just wanted to say that thanks to YOU I’ve become a ratings junkie. :S I’m now visiting your site couple of times in a day.

And I’ve been doing this since the end of the last season. That’s when I actually ‘found’ TVByTheNumbers, while Googling for TV ratings. :D

    /cheers!

  64. BAX says:

    hi! from Spain….

There is a lot of people from out USA…. We watch usa tv series, but we aren´t inside the ratings… and this is a mistake….why? think about!!!

Rating me for SGU; Heroes; V; Desperate Housewifes..

  65. AppleStinx says:

To r2zv2n, who wrote “hey where is ROMANIA:)….” and Radu:

My guess is that ratings of TV shows about vampires, leeches, politicians and similar blood suckers, money suckers, power suckers, face suckers, tonsil suckers and assorted sucking types, are no big deal in the land where it all began.

  66. Gypsy898 says:

I’m the one living in Trinidad. I’m a Jersey Girl though!

  67. Riff Rafferty says:

That’s funny. I don’t even give a crap about the ratings in the country where I was born.

Heck, I barely even know what they air there anymore.

  68. Ren says:

Hey Australia here! I hardly watch any Aus TV, that’s why thanks to TVBTN I know how some of my fave US shows are doing.

Nice to see some others Aussies here :)

  69. Khan says:

I am from Pakistan and we love American shows here.

  70. Eduardo Fonseca says:

I’m from Portugal aswell and I visit the website everyday. It’s a great resource to know how my favourite shows are doing and understand the trends.

  71. UH says:

JBF …perfect italian or google translatior ?? ahahahaha
however… not enough sex and violence in DH sorry :)

  72. Gil says:

I’m brazilian but I live in the US so I must count as “american”, but yes, Brazil rules! And Lost is awesome!

  73. UH says:

and BTW …internet is amazing today I’ve learned about a nation I never heard before !!

  74. thedemonhog says:

Julia, where are you getting that information about more guns per capita in Canada? According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_gun_ownership, the United States is #1 with 90 guns per 100 people, while Canada is #8 with just 31.5 guns per 100 people.

  75. Merilò says:

    I’m from Italy.
I love tvbythenumbers end Grey’s Anatomy

  76. kyle says:

i am from the USA but I found this site because I was getting the ratings info from Zip2it and one no one ever comment on the stories and 2 they started leaving Friday, Saturday, and sometimes Sunday ratings out so I wanted to find a new ratings site then I found this amd never left because I like to hear other peoples comments!!!

  77. Glen says:

As Canadian T.V. has mostly USA programming in prime time (with a few Cdn shows), we pay close attention to the USA ratings. Plus, yes, we get quite a few American networks on our cable system (time shifting too). I find it interesting to see how the USA shows perform, as if they get cancelled in the USA, they no longer will air here as well.

  78. AppleStinx says:

Which American shows are currently popular in your country?
Where English is not the primary language, are the American shows usually dubbed or subtitled?
I’ll be thinking of you next time ratings for particular shows are featured. I also think this site could benefit from having offices in the Caribbean because of the data shown in the second table.

  79. R.G says:

Shows that do well internationally but don’t do well in the U.S. are still on the air. Which is why My Name Is Earl from 2005-2009 despite it’s low viewership was able to be on the air until both the U.S. and the world stopped watching it.

  80. UH says:

AppleSitnx I think In Italy the highest ratings are for House and Lost .
In Italy there is a long tradition of dubbing , in the past, especially for movies, the dubbng was excellent ( sometimes even better than original ) . However the number of products to be dubbed increased exponentially in the past 20 years and so the quality decreased a lot .
That’s why a lot of people now follow American ( and british shows) differently ….

  81. Chris says:

Yep, Aussie here too. Having given up on the networks here in Oz a couple of years ago now, I now visit TVBythenunmbers daily to work out what is worth downloading. It’s more efficient than downloading shows that won’t last long (I also don’t like having incomplete series…call me weird). Roll on Chuck and Lost!

  82. Julia says:

thedemonhog, apparently I was remembering a factoid I once heard wrong. Though I’m trying to find something on percentage of population that is armed, because that could be it. But I don’t know.

  83. r2zv2n says:

    @AppleStinx-dude c’mon,we are good now:)…..have you heard about Vlad Tepes,Ceausescu,Transilvania?:)….Supernatural,Prison Break,Bones,how i met your mother,the big bang theory,flash forward-very popular in romania…..

  84. Liban A says:

    Go UK, Go UK… GO!

  85. GSFABC says:

    @Apple:
In Germany everything is dubbed (except for some specials like Musical-Episodes…)
The best Rated American Show is House I think. NCIS is not bad (way younger skewing than in the US). The CSI’s are good too.
Interesting: Grey’s Anatomy has less 14-49 viewers than NCIS!
Simpsons and MEN are the best Sitcoms. And the Shows GNTM (our ANTM) and “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” (like American Idol) are the best.

  86. Simon says:

Sweden’s gonna get cancelled any day now.

  87. Shabbir says:

Another fan from UK. My only gripe is the constant bad coverage regardng Castle. Even on the day, additional episodes were ordered, there was doom and gloom about the show.

Concentrate on another show and give castle a chance. :-)

  88. kev0170 says:

    Barbados!!! lol

  89. Ben says:

Another one here from Australia (9am Monday morning).

  90. Shem says:

    Reppin for Guyana!

  91. kev0170 says:

    shem u guyanese?

  92. Skouse says:

    Is anyone here from India?
    And is house there?
    How is it rating wise?

I’m going there for a holiday in a few more days (back to my roots) and just wanting to go prepared.

  93. Kermonk says:

They are here to study English of course ;)

  94. Pix says:

Montenegro! Only second, damn you Saint Kitts and Nevis :D

  95. gavin says:

The interesting difference between UK ratings and US ratings is that in the UK the viewer total is taken rather than an age 18-49 sample.

The US and Canada also seem to be pretty much on their own that shows can be cancelled so soon after a premier. In other countries such as France, UK etc shows are ordered and played to their 1st season finale even if the show is deemed a failure.

  96. MrsMangel says:

Hi from Australia as well. The top US imports in Australia are NCIS, Two and a Half Men, Bones and Criminal Minds. FlashForward started strong, but is dropping, like in the US. The Mentalist and The Big Bang Theory are both rising in popularity.

  97. cngdt says:

Am I the only one from Argentina here??

  98. Ren101 says:

I’ve given up on the Aussie Networks, I don’t even bother anymore. More intrested in the US networks anyway. :)

  99. Guy says:

Yeah i am from Australia also. I visit because i like to get all the latest info about whats going on here and this site seems to be the best one to access that information.

As for the US shows ATM we have a heap of US shows being fast tracked as we like to call it. Its the most we have had to date. They include Heroes, NCIS, Criminal Minds, Bones, Castle, NCIS: LA, Glee, Ghost Whisperer, Flash Forward, CSI, The Mentalist, Two and A Half Men, The Simpsons and Big Bang Theory. I may have missed a few. However this week our Ratings period ends and most of the shows go away until February.

What annoys me is the Seven Network has decided to FT Private Practice and it will continue into the summer months here but no Grey’s Anatomy. What type of network does this. Now i am a massive Grey’s fan and i have already seen every episode this season however i am also aware Grey’s and PP will have some kind of massive crossover event but it seems we will be out of sync. I dont get why our networks here think that its ok to do this.

Just last week the Nine Network showed the CSI crossover event but we are still a season behind in CSI: Miami and CSI: NY because these shows dont do well here.

Obviously i am rambling a bit but the fact is we get a fair whack of the US shows. We just dont get the drama’s like Housewives, Grey’s, House, Brothers and Sisters etc because the storylines are continual whereas most of the shows shown already dont fit that. Although if Seven had FT’d Grey’s it would have fitted in nicely because that show doesnt return now until mid January.

  100. J-----C says:

There’s probably a number of reasons why Canada is so highly ranked:

    1. The reason that everyone has given, we have alot of US programming.
    2. Unlike a lot of other nations on the list, Canada takes an active stake in alot of US shows. Smallville and Supernatural for example, are both shot in Canada, and therefore use up alot of our tax dollars. We like to keep tabs on our investments.
    3. Sometimes our shows are on your networks, we like to see how they do (After learning about the dismal performance of The Listener, for example, I’m now extremely curious to see if CTV renews it.)
    4. Canadians are really into watching what’s going on below us. It’s sort of a hobby. We bring popcorn.
    5. Other nations would have this as well, but not to the same extent: There are a ton of Canadians on US tv, or doing stuff behind the scenes.

    6. Last but not least: It’s really hard to get good information on Canadian ratings. Since US broadcasts are most often at the same time as ours (and in Canada US channels will be taken over by the Canadian channel when simulcasting occurs), we sort of substitute your rankings for our rankings, even though there is often a difference. Even when they’re at different times, generally we’re only up to a week either before or after the U.S. broadcast.

  101. Lowie says:

Another Australian here, almost a daily visitor now.

I always like to check in and see how US shows are rating, because you all dictate which shows we see. It’s even more relevant now with Australian networks airing US shows within weeks, if not days or even hours of their US broadcasts.

Massive Castle fan (which is rating well in Australia!). Here’s hoping it’s demos continue to improve over the rest of this season for abc, to ensure another season.

  102. gene says:

Yep, Australian, but programming is so unbelievably erratic here, it’s easier to watch things online, and follow American scheduling, which is way more reliable! In Oz shows move nites and times (seemingly) at random, disappear for months, advertise new episodes only to show a repeat… sometimes shows stream direct from America, other times they stick with massive delays anywhere from 8 months to 2 years, a delay that was probably established when film reels were flown or shopped across the oceans by boat in the 1950s…!… shows come and go on-season, off-season, picked up and dropped, then picked up again with minimal or no seeming connection to ratings?? it seems there’s no method to the madness! I absolutely love the way America (and hence your website) treats television production as a serious, complex industry worth following, so thanx :)

  103. ABCFanatic2009 says:

Quite shocking to see Philippines and Germany but those two are two of the leading countries in the world

  104. Jeremy says:

There maybe a lot of people from the Philippines but I think I am the only one from the Phil. who is under 15. :) )

  105. Croatia here :) I’m on here every day, need to know which show is doing good / worth to write about on my sites.

Our TV networks broadcasted most of popular US scripted show, and a lot of people download the shows from net – like Gossip Girl or Prison Break before. Shows like Grey’s, Desperate H, House, CSI are still hugely popular on here although Lost stopped broadcasting after 3rd season I think, Heroes also. HIMYM is a number one show here :)

I travel for work, and have been in Spain, France, Canada (home country), and the US in September and October. I check this site out everyday when I’m travelling so atleast some of those France and Spain ones are from me!

Your Canadian traffic is impressive considering USA has ten times more people.

I am dual citizen, born in America, came to England in my late 20’s for work, have had British passport for a while.

I used to watch shows from the USA & then they would just disappear from the TV screen over here.

Frustrating, as I didn’t know if they’d been cancelled in the USA, or if there were more episodes and the British networks just weren’t showing them.

Also, the wait between series could be long, long, long – I just wanted more info.

Thank the powers that be for this site (and epguides) so that if I like an American show I can have some idea of what to expect – and if all the eps aren’t broadcast over here I can make a resonably informed decision about ordering the series from Amazon (don’t get me started on Region 1 vs. Region 2 versions.)

anima52: What about Region 1 vs Region 2 versions? Please don’t tell me that Prime Minister Gordon Brown had trouble playing those Region 1 DVDs Obama gave him earlier this year.

It’s good to see so many international viewers appreciating Lost. While it’s still very popular in America, support here has waned in recent years. Good to see that the rest of the world is still wise to Lost though.

    Brazil!

We’re crazy about american tv series, it is not a surprise that we have a huge representation here.
