Lie to Me gets full season pick-up

Posted on 24 November 2009 by Robert Seidman

While I am expecting the full FOX mid-season schedule at any time,  Lie To Me showrunner Shawn Ryan just announced on Twitter that  Lie To Me got its back 9 and was picked up for the full season.

ShawnRyanTV #LieToMe picked up for a back 9! Thanks for all the support everyone!

Between the Fringe/Past Life news and this, it seems like FOX is letting the news trickle out rather than blasting out the full announcement.  But I’m hoping for the full-blast soon anyway.

Interesting. This is the best bet for a post-Idol spot now.

  2. RealisticExpectations says:

Well, so much for any “exclusive” Ausiello may have been pining for…

    Damn that Twitter, anyway!

Glad to hear the folks at “Lie To Me” will be working the full season!

  3. Jayme says:

I thought Glee was post Idol? Good news for Lie To Me, anyway. I’ve never seen it but its always good to hear dramas are returning.

  4. Tom says:

Jayme, there’s a Tuesday post-Idol slot and a Wednesday post-Idol slot. Wednesday was scheduled as a timeshare between Glee & Human Target, but Tuesday has been in doubt ever since Past Life’s order was reduced.

  5. Brad says:

I think Fox airs Idol like 3 times a week?

  6. S. says:

Now sing with me to the tune of “That’s Amore”

When networks pick up shows with bad ratings
    That’s recession
When the crap seems never to end or be canceled
    That’s recession
    Bells will ring ting-a-ling-a-ling, ting-a-ling-a-ling
    But only for Dullhouse
    Hearts will play tippy-tippy-tay, tippy-tippy-tay
    Mourning for Dullhouse

  7. Tom says:

AI normally airs only twice a week, for one hour on Tuesday & Wednesday, though the Tuesday show frequently expands to two hours at the beginning and end of the season, and Fox occasionally has Thursday airings, depending on number of contestants / presidential pre-emptions / Fox desires to hose their competitors schedule.

(Personal note: I’ve never seen more than five minutes of a row in the show (I think its trash), and I know AI’s scheduling. It dictates half of every network’s Spring schedule – how can you people not be aware of this?)

  8. Mike G. says:

Good for Lie to Me. This is not overly surprising to me, but it is long overdue.

  9. Jayme says:

Tom, oh, of course. I completely forgot its that double-night thing. As for my excuse for not remembering – I’m from the UK and watch it all in one go. ;p

  10. Tom says:

My apologies, I don’t expect non-Americans to know the AI schedule – especially when you’ve got the original airing over there!

  11. Chmarin says:

“But I’m hoping for the full-blast soon anyway.”

    - The Futon Critic says that FOX won’t be announcing the midseason schedule until after Thanksgiving.

  12. Riff Rafferty says:

Good to hear. Some people were starting to get worried it would only get an additional 3…

  13. Meli says:

I am happy for Lie to Me getting a full season. It’s one of the better shows with one of the better casts, but doesn’t really get a lot of attention. And I think it pairs up well with House (though it will have to vacate for 24).

  14. Altair says:

I guess it’s gonna be on Tuesday 9 pm , against Lost (like last year) and NCIS: Los Angeles.

  15. UH says:

Am I wrong or this is a good news for Heroes?

  16. steve says:

    Wooohooo

  17. Julia says:

Uh, how does this mean anythng for Heores?

The only surprising piece of this news is how late it is in coming.

  18. CSM says:

Are we sure this information is officially official officially today?! :) Lie To me will have about 10-12 episodes left to air this season. So barring something unusual, the only possibilities I see are to air the show Tue @ 9 starting in March likely or maybe get moved to Fridays if FOX wants to stop airing repeats and has something else it can pair it with. The other option is if they hold it until summer, but I doubt that would happen. I don’t see any other places the show could go unless I’ve totally overlooked something.

  19. Brad says:

Since Heroes will air at 9pm in 2010? I guess a weak Lie to Me is better than…ugh, I don’t know. W

  20. Tom says:

It is irrelevant for Heroes; the post-Chuck episodes will be up against 24 regardless of LtM’s fate, I believe.

The timing is odd; the only guess I have is that Fox A) was waiting for more long-term data on LtM’s ratings trend, when B) Lost forced their hand by blocking Fringe’s scheduling there.

  21. Sue says:

It’s about time that Fox rewarded this show with the love it deserves! Well done Shawn, Tim, Kellie, writers, cast and crew and powers-that-be!! You have made this viewer very happy!

  22. Julia says:

24 will still be airing post-House. This doesn’t change that.

  23. Max Sleven says:

This is the only drama I watch on FOX so I’m happy to hear it.

  24. MNIS says:

    awesome

  25. The_GodfatherSJP says:

The day this show moves to a tougher night without an incredible lead in is the day it tanks.

It has no fan base. If it did, its DVD sales would be noticeable.

They aren’t. Just check The-numbers.com when it was released. Didn’t even make the Top 30 chart, in a week when the #30 spot was held by 25,000 DVDs.

  26. Empire says:

Long time coming, I’m a huge fan of the show, have no clue as to the new time slot hoping for post AI so maybe more people can get into the show, but it’s up in the air until the mid-season lineup comes out, a great day for the fans. Since Shawn Ryan has taken over, I believe the show has become more intense, as well as alot of development with the characters. Now just have to wait and see if theres a season 3

  27. Alex says:

Welcome but a little surprising news, if nothing else this late pick-up at least explains the odd two or three additional scripts order Fox requested a few weeks ago. Presumably they did that with an eye on a possible late pick-up and wanted to be able to limit production delays as much as possible. I am however enjoying Lie To Me and am glad to see it get a full back nine despite the less than stellar ratings God knows where they’re going to put it.

After disappointing numbers out of House do they give it another chance behind Idol on Tuesday night? Is it to replace Fringe in the Thursday death slot? A move to Friday nights? The mid season schedule for Fox is going to be interesting.

  28. kiwi says:

Yay! Great news! I only started watching Lie to Me this season and I’m borderline addicted to it. I love how Tim Roth’s character reminds me of a badass (yet sober) Dudley Moore.

  29. vsaint says:

Another junk procedural, i guess this means FOX has little faith in Human Target/Past Life doing much. Although this really doesn’t affect the schedule that much.

  30. Jordan says:

Excellent news. One of the few five-star shows at the min.

  31. baqinardo says:

    Good~ I hope it’s true…

  32. ABCFanatic2009 says:

Wow I wonder where they are gonna put the show

  33. Mel says:

Excellent! Lie to Me started off a bit slow last season, but it has really jelled in S2 and keeps getting stronger. I think Fox made a good decision with this one — post Idol would be nice . . . .

  34. Dan says:

It took a while but I knew this would happen. I wonder where Lie to Me will end up airing in the spring. Fridays is a possibility.
