| Adults 18-49: Rating/Share | 4.0/10 | 3.6/9 | 3.4/9 | 1.8/5 | 1.4/4 | 0.6/1 |
| Adults 18-34: Rating/Share | 3.1/9 | 3.5/10 | 2.3/6 | 1.5/4 | 1.5/4 | 0.8/2 |

CBS won the night with adults 18-49 as How I Met Your Mother hit season highs with adults 18-49 and The Big Bang Theory banged out its largest audience ever. Bang had regularly been besting Two and a Half Men with adults 18-49 recently, but last night it managed to win out in overall audience as well.
ABC had the most overall viewers and we’ll have to see how it shakes out in the finals, but it looks like the 30 minute premiere of ABC’s Find My Family makes for a slightly better lead-in for Castle than Dancing With the Stars, despite its smaller audience.
And here’s a blurb from ABC PR for the Castle fans who say we never post anything nice about Castle!
10-11pm: Achieving season-highs, ABC’s Castle bested NBC’s Jay Leno in the 10 o’clock hour by 6.0 million viewers (10.5 million vs. 4.5 million) and by 93% in Adults 18-49 (2.7/7 vs. 1.4/4). In fact Castle earned its highest Adult 18-49 number in nearly 7 months and matched its biggest audience in more than 8 months – since 5/4/09 and 3/16/09, respectively. Castle greatly improved the hour year to year for ABC, over an original Boston Legal on the year-ago night, by 2.3 million viewers and by 29% in Adults18-49 (8.2 million and 2.1/6 on 11/24/08).
Heroes was up slightly from last week’s lows, but Trauma sunk to its lowest-rated telecast ever with adults 18-49 despite a surprise pickup of three additional episodes.
One week’s data point does not make a trend, but if it did, FOX might conclude fans really want Cameron on the show. House dipped from last week’s 5.1 rating with adults 18-49 to a 4.5 rating last night, down about 12 percent week over week. FOX still won the night with adults 18-34.
In Late-Night Local People Meters Monday night:
- Conan O’Brien (0.9/4 in 18-49 in local people meters) trailed CBS’s LATE SHOW (1.1/4) in Nielsen’s 24 local markets with People Meters.
- At 12:35 a.m., Jimmy Fallon (0.5/3 in 18-49 in local people meters) trailed CBS’s LATE LATE SHOW (0.6/4).
Here are last Monday’s preliminary numbers for comparison.

Definitions:
*Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Holla!!!! Boo to anyone who says Castle can’t stand on its own two feet without the DWTS lead-in. In your skeptical faces.
Thanks, TVBTN!
That’s very interesting results for Castle. If the ratings don’t drop in the finals, will ABC rethink things?
I guess Katee Sackoff did help the ratings even if she only showed up in one scene.
If that 2.7 for Castle holds, it’s a renewal lock.
Also, congratulations to Heroes for breaking their long series-low streak. Looks like they were finally up this week.
Insert standard disclaimer about MNF possibly appearing on ABC affiliates in Houston & Nashville here? Isn’t Houston one of the larger markets in the country?
And I can no longer be shocked by BBT, aside from pointing out that the show has no pre-existing stars (then again, neither did House, nor Heroes). Star power is overrated.
And just how bad are NBC’s midseasons that more Traumas at that cost at those ratings makes sense. Yeesh. Those April ratings will be ugly, mark my words.
i knew it wasnt dancing with the stars that kept Castle up. Its a kind of show that can fit anywhere, if u watch it u know what im saying. I didnt think it would go up this much, buut awesome! a 2.7 is actually pretty good for any show,
my opinion, if Castle stays above a 2.5, its good for a renewal
Wow those used to be DWTS regular numbers some season before
So did football appear on ABC stations in Houston and Nashville?
Oh I keep forgetting that Castle always drops in the finals because of MNF.
WOW @ Castle! I only saw one promo for it and that was during Find My Family. If it can fit with that show, it would probably fit well on Sundays @ 8 after EMHE.
Yay TBBT! Finally beating the awful 2.5 Men! Also great to see HIMYM doing well.
I agree with Tom I am not shocked any more about BBT but I was expecting a season Low with the finale of DWTS.
If they are getting these numbers with DWTS on imagine next few months
CSI Miami is doing OK
Yay. Castle was hysterical last night. It’s moving from my watch/enjoy/forget category to my watch/buy DVD/rewatch category.
Interesting. IIRC, last year, CBS’s comedies at 8pm also hit their season highs towards the end of November. Perhaps it’s the shorter days?
Wow at the results for Castle. It’s finally growing into the show that ABC needs it to be. What will pisher say?
‘Bang’ was pretty funny last night – the 8 o’clock hour for CBS is still pretty weak…
im sure castle will go down to its usual 2.5 cuz of MNF, but this still proves it dont need DWTS.
Ouch for Trauma, last night’s episode was the best one yet, it keeps improving in terms of quality. I hate the fact that Mercy performed better.
That House burn in hell with Cameron’s out.
If Castle stays in there, Renewal here we come
big applause for The Big Bang Theory. This season has been fantastic and those ratings are truly deserved. Give Sheldon his Golden Globe nomination already!!!
There was no overrun for Castle so the numbers should stay the same. Castle actually started on time at 10.
I’ll admit that I’m presently surprised about how well Find My Family led into Castle. I was afraid Castle’s ratings were going to take a massive hit, but I’m glad that I was wrong. Let’s hope the numbers keep going up.
So can somebody actually confirm that Football was on ABC affliates in Nashville and Houston last night?
It’s a real shame that Lie To Me didn’t get higher ratings last night. It’s such a great show and last night’s episode was pretty good. I’m hoping that Fox will give Lie To Me a full season because I absolutely love that show and I want it to stick around.
The DWTS numbers are intriguing: DWTS lost the demo throughout, despite drawing 7-8 million more viewers than its closest competition. Just how old are those viewers, anyway? :^)
How I Met Your Mother is my favorite TV comedy, and I’m glad to see its have a strong week.
Cameron leaving has nothing to do with the weaker numbers for House – the fans are not pleased with the general direction of the show, right now.
Wondeful news for us Castle fans. Even a drop in the finals likely breaks even with last week, at worst. Even a Castle optimist like me was braced for a slight drop after losing the direct DWTS lead-in. But lo and behold, the show stands just fine (perhaps even better?) on its own. Woo hoo!
Looks like we may indeed have Bones 2.0 on our hands here. Castle just needed a little time to plant its roots, and now, its growing steadily, even without lead-in help. Very encouraging to see. I feel better about its renewal prospects every week.
So glad Heroes is out of the hole they were digging but I would not consider them safe. They still have a good ways to go, but at least they are on the rise again.
Oh House, I expected a drop but not this big!
With Cameron out I have no interest whatsover in House
I have been looking forward to this moment when BBT beats MEN!
I keep looking, but I can’t find out about the MNF game.
Especially if it aired on ABC in Houston. They are a large market, and Vince Young was born there and is the local star. I could see that swinging Castle’s ratings by .3, easy.
@Doug – Yeah, someone’s going to be “pished” after talking for weeks about how Castle would drop like a stone as soon as it lost DWTS. Oops.
@Tom
I think the MNF game aired on the CW aff in Houston
“Castle” just won itself a third season. Funny how I thought that show was going to tank after seeing the ratings for the third episode. Well, beats the writers of this site who think it’s going to be cancelled any day now. Oh, any day now! Any day now! Tomorrow might be the day! ABC might pull the plug! What, they didn’t cancel it today? Well, just wait! They’re going to do it tomorrow!
Remember when NBC ordered more episodes of “Three Wishes” and then took them all away literally days later? You remember when you did, NBC? Because you still have that option…
I’ll wait for the finals, but:
House is only the 3rd-highest rated hour of the night? Really?
@Riff Rafferty – I know, man. What’s it going to take to get Castle out of the “orange zone” in the Renew/Cancel Index? I bet they’ll keep it there just out of spite even once it gets renewed.
In the midseason CBS could change monday night lineup…
I think How I Met Your Mother deserves the same chance that The Big Bang Theory.
Why not move HIMYM to 9:30 pm?
8 pm accidentally on purpose >>> rules of engagement
8:30 pm the big bang theory
9pm two and a half men
9:30 pm how i met your mother
10 pm csi: miami
BBT could improve two and a half men ratings, and two and a half men coul improve how i met your mother.
AOP could be a little hurt, maybe riching 2.5 in the demo, but still good.
I wish people would slow down on the Castle praise until he can confirm that football did not affect its ratings
@Riff, Castle canceled any day now? I’ve always had it in danger of not returning next season, but never thought a decision would be made before May. You must have us confused with another site.
BBT Finally Took down TAHM! Building off it’s lead in in total viewers and the demo. Nice job BBT. Now if we can just get HIMYM up…
K2 says “Cameron leaving has nothing to do with the weaker numbers for House – the fans are not pleased with the general direction of the show, right now”
Cameron leaving has something to do with the weaker numbers for House among other things
Is it me or is Trauma’s ratings falling every week? Do you think NBC will change their mind about the new order for 3 more episodes?? I sure hope not. I love that show
To anyone who thinks Heroes is on the rise, check out these ratings statistics (compiled by this website, of course) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_heroes_episodes
As you can see, last night’s episode was the 2nd lowest rating ever, only ahead of last week’s. I’d hardly call this good news.
Paul PT, while I think HIMYM would do very well @ 9:30, CBS is probably going to keep it at the 8pm slot so it can continue anchoring Monday nights. If anything, CBS’s fall 2010 schedule could end up looking like this:
Mondays:
8:00 – How I Met Your Mother
8:30 – Accidentally on Purpose
9:00 – The Big Bang Theory
9:30 – new comedy
Wednesdays:
8:00 – Two and a Half Men
8:30 – Gary Unmarried
HIMYM is not doing badly – those adults numbers are pretty fantastic for CBS. It’s AoP that’s in trouble.
CBS is prepping BBT to be the next comedy face of the network (like Murphy Brown, Raymond and Men before it), and it’s working. CBS must have a horseshoe up its ass when it comes to continually revitalizing Mondays because NBC never had luck like this with Thursdays. They got higher ratings, yes, but after Seinfeld left the air, every year represented diminishing returns and fewer hits.
Funny how the Castle haters are silent this morning. I suppose they’re waiting on the finals before spewing their venom. Its pretty clear by now that Castle is a legit performer for ABC, so I expect a third season. Who knows, this show might be pulling in a 3 or better by seasons end. All the haters will disagree, but Castle seems is flat or gaining ever so slightly week to week, so it has the momentum to break out.
CBS is not going to move 2.5 Men YET – it’s still far too strong to go to a night like Wednesdays. To be honest, I can see CBS retiring Men in a year or two in the way that Raymond went off the air – not because of weak ratings, but because it was time to go and it has other shows to cover for it.
Castle rises! Third season is a must.
The NFL game was on the CW affliate in Houston! Keeping fingers crossed for Castle.
Regarding BBT -total audience doesn’t matter. LOL!!
Cameron leaving House caused it to slip? Really? It’s not like she’s been a major player on the show for what…2+ years now? I agree that it’s House’s general direction that most fans who stopped watching are the reason, although personally I don’t have an issue with it.
Castle has been a steadily improving show, one I really enjoyed from the beginning. It’s nice to see a “cop drama” with some heart. I truly hope it’s extended past this season.
Castle was on ABC in Houston last night. Football was on another station.
Thank god for Heroes!
It hurts so bad when they fall.
Good thing they went up, atleast a lil.
You can tell that those Cameron fans who have been waiting for her return for the last two seasons have finally stopped watching the show.
TBBT was great last night.
TAHM don’t be moving from wednesday any time soon.
I think CBS should give HIMYM the 9:30 spot.
And next season they could do this:
FALL 2010
8 pm two and a half men
08:30 pm accidentaly on purpose or new comedy
9 pm the big bang theory
9:30 pm how i mwt your mother
10 pm csi: miami
Wow, big night for BBT which can now officially be called the number comedy on TV in every major category.
Big kudos to Castle for going UP without it’s DwtS lead in (or at worst staying flat to last week if it drops in the finals).
House as a show is losing its way and while this is just a one week drop I wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes a trend.
That’s “UP” for Heroes? Sad. Very impressed TBBT topped 2.5 Men which I’ve alwasy thought to be one of the worst shows on TV. It’s something grandfathers would like. I don’t get it. Sick of Dancing With The Stars too. Can’t take that anymore. Why do people like Donnie Osmond?
House had a smaller than usual audience, 11 million for house is terrible. maybe it was the DWTS finale?
BBT was put on after Two and half men because it was a younger show. HIMYM would be an older show than BBT so moving it to the pimp slot would make no sense whatsoever. HIMYM will remain at 8 until the show is cancelled.
House was the most watched show in the world last year. i doubt it gets cancelled anytime soon.
Im still sad about Trauma’s ratings LOL Even though I should not be surprised. Does anyone think NBC will still air Trauma after the Olympics??
lol i doubt they’ll cancel house to..but it’s a shame to see such a great show losing fans! Have there ever been any tv series which ended on peak form aside from Friends?
lol i doubt they’ll cancel house too..but it’s a shame to see such a great show losing fans! Have there ever been any tv series which ended on peak form aside from Friends?
“Funny how the Castle haters are silent this morning”
Looking for a bingo judgment call from Bill: Does this count as “You guys are just haters” on the cards? “
Where is this nonsense coming from that TVBTN has a hate on for Castle? They’ve reported the numbers pretty unbiasedly… if I can adverbitize that word (…if I can verbitize THAT word… you get where I’m going with this)… Point is, while some of the people who comment here definitely have it out for Castle, the news posts themselves have never said Castle will be canceled any day. It’s been climbing the index, too.
I love Castle and always watch it live. I don’t watch DWTS and am not interested in the new awful Find My Family show. I do think it’s significant that Castle can stand on its own. I hope that it continues to steadily rise in ratings.
It’s sad that Heroes is considered good at a 2.3 demo rating. I haven’t watched it since last season and don’t expect to ever bother again. A great show that went down the tubes after its first year – mostly in my opinion due to keeping the awful character of Sylar.
The output of Cameron is really the reason for the fall.
Just do not see who does not want.
In addition to an excellent character, the actress Jennifer played it extremely well.
Cameron was the character who interacted more with House, making House to show more humane and tolerable.
The romande House / Cuddy and Foreman / Thirteen producers want to impose the fans, simply does not work.
This semblance of team that is under the command of House does not work.
KJ / DS should bring Cameron back urgently.
MNF:
Tennessee: WKRN
Houston: KIAH
Nice Job, Big Bang Theory, and lets hope Castle does well airing after The Bachelor.
Am also sad abt Trauma. Last night’s ep was one of the best they’ve done.
Heroes is batting Zeroes. Time to end it. 5 million viewers and such a large cast? How can it continue to exist?
How did the finale train wreck of Jon and Kate plus Hate do? Only saw the last 10 minutes, but when she said “We had a great run..” and “it ended too soon” without adding “… except for the part where our family is in ruins and good for nothing but tabloid fodder.” part, I was about to hurl my dinner all over the TV. That woman has an ego the size of Texas. Hopefully weve seen the last of this wannabe Dominatrix and her ex-Man Child Husband.
I am sad/angry about House’s ratings. I don’t get how people quit a show just like that, only because of a bad episode. As it was mentioned above, Cameron had been almost invisible since season 4. It is really a shame because this season started off on the right foot and last night’s was pretty great. I hope the viewers return.
HOUSE needs a spinoff. Call it GARAGE or APARTMENT.
Castle was an great episode last night! It looks like we might get the highest demos since the first three episodes of Season One; I’ll just wait for the Finals as always. Evan if the Finals remain the same I’m still going to worry about the rest of the season. I personally couldn’t stand the temporary lead-in, and just because it’s a hit in Europe doesn’t mean the ratings will tank from now on without Dancing With The Stars leading into “Find My Family.”
Repeat of CASTLE next week, and then one new episode(11) for the month of December; then, not until January do we get a new episode of CASTLE. This will be Episode 12, the Alyssa Milano as Richard Castle’s Ex-Love, Kyra, with “The Bachelor” as a lead-in. Then, we will be competing against “The Olympics” I think. The Olympics have ended many a borderline series in the past(NBC’s Surface); and it only takes a few miscalculations in the writing or creatively, such as the second season of “Twin Peaks” after resolving the Laura Palmer murder mystery, the show was lost for the next five episodes, and the audience tuned out and never came back when the show got back on track. How this show handles the Castle/Beckett romance and Beckett’s Mothers murder is always going to be a delicate dance that could send this show spiralling if not done just right!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Castle rose in the viewers and ratings without DWTS which proves that it is a good show and not just because of DWTS. Also for the new show that is on before Castle is probably got higher then expected because some castle fans might’ve tried to watch it and some liked it and some didnt.
IM SO HAPPY FOR CASTLE!!! IT LEAPED FROM 1 TO 3 STEPS CLOSER OF BECOMING RENEWED! As for trauma i thought it was one fo the best yet! Why did it go down?
Espeacially with Nancy and Rabbit making out in the end!
House started the season with only House – they have to realise on which side their bread is buttered – at the moment it´s stuck to the ceiling.
jay leno is saving network tv

You really wouldn’t think a writer and a detective would make a good team… but you’d be wrong!
Woo Castle! Hopefully that blurb from ABC means a renewal is imminent!
Yeah for Heroes! I think it will do better at 9:00 after christmas. I predict Chuck will do about as well at 8:00 as heroes is doing now.
Kel – Trauma has 6 more eps after its 11/30 episode, but who knows when it will air.
Eric – I doubt Castle will be one of the series that ABC gives “early” renewals to, but its real test is how it does airing post Bachelor. Castle is likely to run repeat free from Jan-March in the 10pm timeslot and then likely be replaced.
I would say those 2 minute DWTS overruns have been hurting Castle more than anything. People finish watching their 9 pm shows will go channel surfing, they see that dancing stuff and just go on to something else.
I have to agree with Rob on the House issue…I suspect House will continue to show modest decreases until the so-called fans of the show, (who are actually fans of certain characters in the show) all fall by the wayside. Too bad these folks aren’t as appreciative of the ride the show is on this year – fascinating character development and twists.
HURRAY for Castle ! Simply an enjoyable hour of TV viewing that far too many people have yet to catch!
Taylor: like you, I hope Lie To Me continues its slow advance in finding an audience – probably the best show of the series so far: Roth aced the entire episode beautifully.
I expected a drop in House this week, especially due to the DWTS finale, but also – a bit of the Cameron/Jennifer Morrison factor.
However, the drop-off in numbers from the season premiere to now is the most telling pointer; Cameron was still on the show and it was still losing audience. I think TPTB at House need to face some hard truths about the general direction of the show soon.
It needs a fresh impetus – and a trimming of the cast.
i miss Kumar.
he was the reason i started watching House.
now i just watch so i can learn how to be an awesome ahole like house. tho he seems to be getting nicer now, and thats just lame.
Exactly the reason I love House is because he was such an ass but him being all nice and caring just sucks.
I’m with MichyGeary on those last comments. I’ve been reading this site religiously for a good year or so now and they have never been harsh on Castle itself, they have only reported the numbers. That being said…like with many shows, they seem to get singled out as hating on a show simply because they don’t post how its going to get renewed all the time even though the numbers aren’t an indication of that.
Last night was a fab ep of Trauma. Too bad about the numbers. It’s still doing better in overall viewers than Heroes tho! LOL
yay Castle! i’d say this is a very admirable performance in the first real test of its audience! even if the final numbers go down a bit, this is freaking awesome news.
Yay for castle showing it can stand on its own 2 feet. Anyone no when we will see the final numbers as hoping castle doesnt drop.
Come on america bring heroes back
ken says: “House was the most watched show in the world last year.”
People always seem to forget, that last year, most of the world hasn’t seen season five yet, when the whole thing started to go downhill.
Last season the most watched episode featured Cameron as House’s boss, after that, they’ve lost about 3 million viewers in about 2-3 months. I know, I know, viewers don’t count, only the 18-49 demo, but I’m sure they’ve lost some points there too.
I agree with Robert P “You can tell that those Cameron fans who have been waiting for her return for the last two seasons have finally stopped watching the show.”
Add to that people not agreeing with the general direction of the show, and you’ll end up losing in numbers. I wouldn’t be surprised either if it becomes a trend.
Wow. I guess I’m the only one happy that Cameron’s gone from House.
But then again, I like Trauma too, so there’s no telling with me.
UM. I think the DWTS finale is a lot more relevant to the ratings drop than CAMERON who hasn’t been important to the show since season 3.
Is it so hard to understand that people who used to watch House for Cameron have finally stopped watching?
Latara, good point.
”One week’s data point does not make a trend, but if it did, FOX might conclude fans really want Cameron on the show. House dipped from last week’s 5.1 rating with adults 18-49 to a 4.5 rating last night, down about 12 percent week over week. FOX still won the night with adults 18-34.”
*applause*
When House jumps back up will we need to write the “House ratings recover as Cameron stays gone?”, or should we go for another (unprovable) causality to highlight?
I suspected FIND MY FAMILY would be a good lead-in for CASTLE as according to EW.com the program is already an international hit.
Bill writes, “Castle canceled any day now? I’ve always had it in danger of not returning next season, but never thought a decision would be made before May. You must have us confused with another site.”
Whatever site I have it confused with, they must have accurately predicted it would even be given this current season. And my bad. It wasn’t the third episode. It was the sixth. The one that was a series low. It really didn’t do well that week at all. It’s fairly unusual for a show to lose audience almost every week its first 2 months on the air and then grow right back to where it was when it started. Although I’m sure that’s probably because most of the shows that lose audience almost every week their first 2 months don’t get a chance to grow back the viewers they lost.
As for the comments that CBS should move “The Big Bang Theory,” what, they haven’t moved it enough? By the time that show ends its run, it’s going to be the first sitcom since “Newhart” to have regularly-aired in every single half hour on CBS’ Monday lineup. They should move it to 9:00. No, they should move it to 8:00. Oh, wait, now should they move it at 8:30. Shaddup.
@Riff, just to set the record straight, both Robert (final probability 75%) and I (final probability 80%) each predicted Castle would be renewed last spring. Its ratings told the tale then, as they ultimately will again.
Where are Gossip Girl’s numbers?
you forgot to put GG numbers. Marc Berman : Gossip Girl (Viewers: #5, 1.22 million; A18-49: #5, 0.6/ 1)
I’m happy for heroes!
Heroes is bunk.
This day is being marked in my diary as the day that The Big Bang Theory proved just how huge it’s going to be over the next however many years. To finally beat 2.5 Men in both ratings with a whopping best of the night 5.2/13 is great news. I know it’s already renewed for the 2010-11 season but seriously, CBS need to extend that further. Big kudos to everyone at TBBT because the Leonard-Penny gamble has paid off huge, as many of us predicted it would by introducing just enough “normality” to hook casual viewers who might have been put off by the “in” references to geekdom.
As for Castle, we all knew it would hold it’s own and despite the few naysayers left who still knock it’s more gentle procedural tendencies, it’s not like ABC’s other shows are doing any better. V had a strong pilot and is falling even before it’s long break for the winter olympics. FlashForward had a strong pilot and is falling faster than V with cries of boring plotlines. I’d be amazed if either were renewed for 2010-11. The only real worry on the ABC horizon is Cougar Town because of Courteney Cox’s “private family matter” as I would have said that was as much a lock as Modern Family. Bottom line – Castle will back for a third season on merit although the naysayers will spin that as “ABC’s other shows are tanking in the ratings and Castle isn’t, so if it ain’t broke…”
don´t forget, that this week BBT had two shows before it,with viewers who had to find something to watch for half an hour.
I’m so happy about TBBT. I knew it could beat 2.5 men in total viewers! finally! It shows that this show is huge! It will be interesting to see both of their ratings next week without DWTS against 2.5 men. I mean that will raise 2.5 men’s numbers which will bump TBBT numbers.
AND TBBT is number 1 for the night in adults 18-49. and the second most watched show and the most watched scripted show for the night! AHH!
WOW. at Castle. and wow at Heroes.
Can we get an update on the Big Bang photo. The current one is from the first season
ROFL @ pisher
Can’y you guys see that BBT was better than Two and a Half Men only because it had to compete with DWTS?
I doubt it will keep the higher ratings over the year.
Where is pisher? Still smarting from that 2.7?
Men – it’s getting long in the tooth imo, as I can tell by watching it on syndication – not as bad as M*A*S*H’s tenth season, but its getting there…
…plus it has a problem all shows with young children that aren’t cancelled quickly have – Jake is no longer half a man, so how will Chuck Lorre handle that? Odds are, he’ll fail rather miserably.
Hey – nobody mentioned Jay! Hip, hip…meh
Accidentally – CBS aired a condensed version of Three Rivers at 8:30 on Monday next week, and nobody noticed
Worst Week? A jugggernaut by comparison
I also think people aren’t fans of 13 or Taub.
I know i’m not, but i’m still watching show.
The PI guy Cuddy is dating is dull, they had plans for spinoff with him, but he’s no interesting.
With Bang Doing so well, I’m guessing this means The Mentalist gets the Superbowl slot, since BBT is doing extremely well.
Lie To Me Fans…. just got picked up for a full season – GREAT NEWS !!!
CBS just kicks ass.
Great news about the full season of Lie To Me!
I don’t understand how one could claim that the large loss in House’s numbers had absolutely nothing to do with the departure of Cameron. It was the largest single drop since the season premiere.
Out of the three major events that occurred in last week’s episode (the other two being the resurgence of House, the jerk, and the return of 13 & Taub), that was the one most likely to lose viewers.
Two and a half men has two more seasons left in it’s run, Jake will finally turn 18, and… knowing Jake, he will fall into a silo of popcorn.
Find My Family, wow, it’s also successful in the states, it’s huge here in Aus, but then again, we are gradually cutting down scripted TV shows these days, and just throw them into our new nosebleeds channels we have.
Trauma RIP =( on of my favourite shows
A welcome return to form for Two and a Half Men last night. I thought the seventh season had started with a real whimper, but that episode was one of the funniest in quite some time.
Great news about Castle. The final numbers held up. I was hoping it would hold steady but to improve is incredible.
Castle
- 10.305 million viewers
- 6.6/11 HH
- 2.7/7 A18-49
Can it continue to do that? I don’t know but it passed it’s first big test.
i’m so happy about the big bang theory! The show is awesome
I agree that Cameron leaving had an effect on House, I know personally that House hasn’t been so great this season but to get rid of Cameron because the producers love Olivia Wilde even though fans hate 13 so much is reprehensible and I know I’ll only catch up on House on Bluray or via rental after the season is finished.
Also great news about Castle, hope it stays doing so well (comparatively), Nathan Fillion deserves a great show.
I’ve read comments worrying about HIMYM, there’s no need to worry, it got a 3.7 on a 8PM slot against House and DWTS final performance, CBS is happy with that and the season’s average is 3.5. HIMYM is doing a fine job as the anchor of the night
I’m real glad about Castle’s ratings, it is the only show that interests me on Mondays, and it has been getting progressively better
.
It’s truly amazing to me that one of the guys (Chuck Lorre I think) created the piece of garbage that is 2 1/2 men is & could also be involved in creating “The Big Bang Theory.” It is the third best comedic show behind “South Park” of course & “Modern Family” the best new show of the year. I would not be surprised if it is the number 1 comedy continuously before the year is out. The writing is great & Jim Parsons (the guy who plays Sheldon) is in a star making role. So here’s hoping that this show keeps it up. My only worry is that when 2 1/2 men is over, Lorre will spend all his time on Big Bang & ruin it.
I love House and Wilson, so as long as they are on the show, I will continue to watch. I liked Cameron and am sorry to see her go, but it won’t make me stop watching the show. Hey, the added 13 and I didn’t leave!!
Wow good job for Find My Family!
Everybody thinks Castle made on its own but its not! It garnered a 2.7 because of its lead-in show Find my Family
The only thing I’d say about Castle in regards to how TVBTN treats it (which I feel is very objectively, as they do with almost all shows) is that I feel like Bill and Bob tend to poo-poo how much being an ABC Studios production helps it. I feel like being in-house adds at least 0.3-0.5 to the demo number in the network’s mind. An in-house show produces enough additional revenue that it doesn’t have to get the same ratings as a show produced by an outsider.
As for the overall viewers, which I know matter very little (but I also know matter at least somewhat), any show hitting double digits in that department right now is a rare bird indeed. While the overall viewer number matters almost not all in terms of generating sales revenue, it does matter quite a bit when trying to decide if a show has growth potential, because the more people watching a show means the more people talking about a show to others. That means a greater chance of newer viewers coming on board after hearing good word of mouth, which seems to be what has happened to this show the past two months.
And, yes, I know that ABC Studios is not the same as ABC Network, but I also know that doesn’t matter near as much to these giant conglomerates as people think it does. To ABC/Disney it is all bottom line money. Unless they have another in-house show that they feel will do better, or a non in-house show that they think will do much better, Castle is coming back next season. ABC has too many holes to fill thanks to the expected collapses of V and FF.
Of course, that assumes the ratings do not drop, which I obviously feel they will not do. Castle is exactly the type of easy buy in show that networks should keep around a little longer before they pull the plug, because that fact makes it a show that can grow. FF, V, Lost, those shows simply cannot experience growth after a certain point, because it’s impossible to lure new viewers to a show that requires you to have seen every episode so far produced. Castle is the exact opposite. You can jump in at any time.
And, yeah, I watch it. It’s the only procedural I do watch. I almost bailed on it after a couple of poor outings earlier this season, but I stuck with it because of my man crush on The Fillion. It’s still not anything close to a great show, but it wisely uses comedy to keep me coming back. They have done an especially nice job in that regard with the supporting cop characters, who have become much more quirky and amusing the longer the show has been on the air. I thought last night was a particularly good example of that, and of how they are trying mightily to overcome the limitations of their genre. Who did it wasn’t really the focus as much as was trying to figure out what-in-the-hell really happened. The plot wasn’t particularly surprising or believable, but it was played well for laughs with every twist and turn. How many shows can turn a murder investigation into good comedy? And how many shows even bother to try?
And the final line of the night had me laughing out loud, which I rarely do when watching anything as I get older.
One last thing. For my money, the best sight gags on television happen on Castle. Last night’s bit about taking cell phone pictures of the cat-fight between the wife and the fiance was a stitch. And the double dose of Castle as Mal Reynolds and Jon Huertas wearing his Generation Kill outfit during the Halloween show was flat out hysterical.
I can see this show getting even better if it can get enough of a ratings footing to have the confidence to continue being different.
“Cameron leaving has nothing to do with the weaker numbers for House – the fans are not pleased with the general direction of the show, right now.”
You really think so? While I agree on the second part, I can assure you there are many Cameron fans out there who didn’t tune in again. Me and all my friends (offline and online), for example. It’s not a coincident.
While the general direction is wrong, letting Cameron go was the biggest mistake of all.
By each episode Castle is getting EXTREMELY BETTERS and probably will keep- progressing. If ABC doesnt renew Castle they will lose over 10million fans that watch the show. Castle is a treat to the people and Nathan Fillion/Stana Katic both of them deserve this show and R the show. Nathan Fillion has been on a lot of shows and movies we watched and now he finally has a show to be recognized for. All i am saying is Thank you Nathan and Stana for the great show and I hope that we will be talking about Castle’s ratings in 5 years from now.
So happy that Castle’s numbers are getting better. If the producers can keep the quality up, it could be the kind of late-blooming sleeper show that NCIS turned out to be.
“Cameron leaving has nothing to do with the weaker numbers for House – the fans are not pleased with the general direction of the show, right now.”
Cameron’s leaving is all about the general direction of the show right now. It moved from a medical procedural with character development right into bad soap opera. Cameron was a character suited for the medical stories than the bisexual/dying/hawt Thirteen or the badly written House/Cuddy drama. Also, Cameron was much more popular than her replacement, Thirteen, and the old team more interesting than the new one.
The producers spent 2 years ignoring what the fans were telling them. I thought House’s numbers might go down but not this much. Looks like more than just Cameron’s fans are giving up on the show.
Next week’s episode of House is going to be about Wilson. They would have done better to run that one for Sweeps instead since Wilson is much more popular than Huddy or the Thirteen/Foreman team.
Maybe House’s ratings were so low because of the DWTS finale. Maybe they were so low two weeks ago because the baseball game ran rate.
But House never used to be susceptible to those kinds of things. It lost 25% of its viewers over last season and while the House-centric premier brought many back, they’ve been steadily dropping back down ever since. Even last week the overall viewership was the lowest its been since season 1. The show is living on the demo ratings.
House still brings in viewers but many have now become a soft audience rather than hard-core viewers, more willing to flip to something else, and that’s probably a result of the direction the show has taken in the last 2 seasons. And many people who were hanging in hoping the show would go back to what it had been finally gave up when Cameron was booted out.
One of the reasons Lie To Me isn’t doing better is because House no longer has the power to bring to the next show the kind of audience it did in previous seasons.
House, is an odd show, it was a very formulated medical-mystery of the week with little to none charater growth for the 1st 3 seasons, every year Fox would force an extra mystery(year1 his wife, year3 the investigator, year 4 the Survivor elimination down to the new group of 3).
Would House be better if it had just stayed the same for 6 years, at some point he has to of covered every medical mystery that would be important enouth to have a team of the 4 best doctors in the country covering it.
For better or worse House is a show that keeps you wondering what will happen from week to week, and it could of easily just been another Law and Order
I presume ratings will be up for House next week since it has no competition. We’ll see how well House does in the ratings against Chuck next year.
Savannah, no competition for House? True there are repeats on CBS, and the Christmas specials on ABC will likely do worse than DWTS, but Fox, CW and NBC have their regular line ups, not to mention the 60+% of the adults 18-49 audience that’s watching cable at that hour. The competition for House won’t be reduced much at all.
I would have said the biggest flaw with that post is the implication that Chuck is going to dent House…
Don’t tell me that you think Heroes on NBC stands is strong competition for House, the show’s been going downhill for over two seasons. The only competition for House on Mondays is DWTS and HIMYM, and now one of those shows is over.
Savannah all signs point towards Chuck being as much competition to House as Heroes has been, as in none at all. Please remember that the numbers Heroes is pulling now are the same numbers Chuck pulled last year and I really can’t see Chuck’s numbers changing much. Meanwhile Dancing will be replaced by The Bachelor, which did very well last year so yes, House’s competition will be about the same as it is now come midseason.
I was talking about Today’s show having no competition, but you’re right that come January, House will have the same competition as of now
And as I said previously I was looking more at this comment – “We’ll see how well House does in the ratings against Chuck next year.”
House will likely crush Chuck worse than Heroes, even with The Bachelor airing instead of Dancing.
