  1. Kathy says:

    Ohhh! First reply!

Fox rules! If you don’t agree, then you are a socialist!

Fox sucks! If you don’t agree then you are a redneck Neocon!

    Did I cover everything? :)

  2. Steve from Wisconsin says:

To Kathy: I loved your note – you made me laugh out loud! Yes, we’re a very polarized country, and it’s often reflected here, too. But it is amazing how far ahead Fox is now when compared with CNN and MSNBC, no matter what political view you hold. In some time slots, they are more than double the other 2 combined!

Have a terrific Thanksgiving weekend everyone! Let’s all take a break from ratings and enjoy time with our families and friends!

  3. Suprised that GE stockholders allow MSNBC’s Prime Time programing, anchored by Olbermann, Matthews, and Middow, to continue. Having worked for NBC News, during the “glory days” w/Tom Brokaw, Robert Abernathy, David Brinkly, MSNBC News has morphed into the “Gong Show” of cable news!

  4. anonymous says:

i am absolutely loving imus in the morning i’d love to see his rating he is really hilarious and was great on hannity last night

  5. mark-allen says:

“gong show” of cable news…VERY funny, that was…

    hey…

does shep smith ever work a full week anymore?

i think he has the lightest schedule of any anchor…and he is not really that good for such a cake walk schedule.

  6. lmgordon says:

‘The Gong Show of Cable News’ is the funniest thing I’ve heard in a long time… and so true!!

  7. Tyler says:

To the first post, “fox sucks and if you don’t like it your a neocon.” Thats not true for millions of conservatives like myself. Fox is way to far to the left ninety percent of the time there is no difference between them and cnn on news stories. Fox has two conservative shows big deal. Glenn Beck had a show at cnn and it was way better than what it is at fox but that didn’t make cnn a conservative station. Hannity’s an embarrasment. What am I missing? Has anyone ever watched special report with bret beir that show is nothing but white house talking points from the obamabot major garret. Fox is a joke! I could care less about the suckers who buy into there crap. Trust me there are millions of people who feel like me. Think of how fifty seven million people voted for mccain and according to most fox is the only conservative station so why don’t they have ten million wathcing at any given time.

  8. Gary says:

Tyler, you have to get off the crack pipe. FOX NEWS does rule, but your trying to say they are 90% on the left? That is crazy, watch Fox and Friends, watch Red Eye, even O’Reilly leans to the right and Greta is probably more in the middle.

  9. Gary says:

That’s ok Alex, as you can see, Fox News isn’t going to miss you, they have plenty of people watching them.

  10. felixw says:

Do you notice that the closest MSNBC gets to Fox in ratings is with its Morning Joe show. This is true, whether you look at absolute viewers or percent gap. And, coincidentally, this is the only MSNBC show covered here that doesn’t build every program on Obama cheerleading. Maybe the suits making decisions at MSNBC should pay attention to this fact.

  11. db says:

Alex–women are either smart or beautiful? They can’t be both?? Well don’t tell Gretchen Carlson( went to Oxford), Dr. Monica Crowley or Megan Kelly (lawyer). I find most if not all the women at Fox very smart and just happen to be very attractive too. Does the word sexist mean anything to you.

  12. Tony says:

Olby’s lil fishin buddy, Ray Ray is becomin quite a drag on the lineup…which is hard to do when that whole network is suckin on swampwater.

  13. Tyler, can you name all those millions? LOL! If it makes you feel better, watch MSNBC. Fox is doing just fine without you.

  14. Demonjoe says:

FOX news lean to the left? That’s like saying the New York Times leans to the right. If anyting FOX news leans to the right, there are more than just 2 conservatives there, Glenn Beck is not a conservative, he’s a libertarian, they are 2 different things. Just because an independent doesn’t mean he isn’t a little bit to the right. Neil Cavuto is pretty conservative too, there is also Mike Huckabee.

  15. Demonjoe says:

“Just because an independent doesn’t mean he isn’t a little bit to the right.”

Sorry, I was referring to Bill O’reilly but I made a typo.

  16. james says:

HEY felixw ..what do you mean “Morning Joe’ gets the closest ratings to fox news that mans show only averages 300,000 viewers he gets the lowest ratings on msnbc ..Keith Olbermann’s the only host on msnbc who averages over 1,000,000 viewers a night followed by rachel maddow who gets 900.000 to 1,000,000 evey week night

  17. TexMex says:

    James.

He means that “Morning Joe” and “FnF” are separated in ratings by less than 1 million viewers. Which is closer than the prime time shows , KO and TRMS who are behind FOX by over 1 million viewers in their time slots.

  18. Tim says:

I keep reading at the bottom of the post that personal attacks will be deleted or political talk will not be tolerated.
90% of the comments so far appearing fall in theses categories yet they are still on the page.
conservative talking heads are heaviest on the board but I haven’t seen any moderation for their attacks.

  19. JC says:

    @Tim

Well, I haven’t seen moderation on the left either

  20. MNIS says:

I think that maybe they’re reserving moderation for personal attacks such as “I’ll kill you,” or similar. If it’s not obviously offensive, i don’t see why moderation is necessary.

  21. Rosie says:

Joe Scarboro on “morning joe” is the most boring guy ever!
He stands for nothing, just a wishy washy confused man, and his side kick Mika is pathetic. I have never watched this couple on tv, but they dumped Chris Plante here in the DC area on WMAL and put these two on for a few months. It was painful to listen to these two. I have satellite radio in my car so most of the time I tuned in to Fox news on my radio, and listened to Fox and friends on the way to the ice rink (30 min drive) and also while doing me morning errands.
Now, Chris Plante is back on and I listen to him most days.
    Anyway.
    Joe Scarboro is AWFUL

  22. Rosie says:

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE
I am thankful that the country is finally waking up.
Have you seen Obummer’s poll numbers?
This is good news. I hope that this will mean that this administration will STOP ruining our country, our freedoms, our values.

  23. Demonjoe says:

Yep, they’re pretty bad right at this point.

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/president_obama_job_approval-1044.html

I also read a Washington Post article saying that no president has ever won a reelection with an approval rating of 47%, while no president has ever lost reelection with an approval rating of 51%.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/11/23/AR2009112303216.html?sub=AR

  24. Demonjoe says:

Hey why does it say my comment is awating moderation?

  25. JC says:

    @Rosie

I agree, Scarbrough is awful. He asks strange questions to his guests that have no relevance to the topic.

  26. Demonjoe says:

    I never watched Morning Joe

  27. YZNN says:

“Fox is way to far to the left ninety percent of the time there is no difference between them and cnn on news stories.”

Please share whatever you are on. Seriously.

  28. Windy says:

This is a request to the site moderators/contributors:

I would love if one day you would do a piece going into detail as to what tools and programs you use to generate your charts such as those you posted on 11/20/09. You guys do a great job on this and I would like to learn more. How do you choose smoothing filters for instance? Also I would be interested in learning if it is possible to plot a series of charts comparing the percentage of viewership for each prime time show. As an example here is the 5PM time slot today.

    5PM – P2+ (25-54) (35-64)
    Glenn Beck – 2,677,000 viewers (759,000) (1,228,000)
    Situation Room—500,000 viewers (102,000) (181,000)
    Hardball w/ Chris Matthews—555,000 viewers (133,000) (326,000)
    Fast Money—158,000 viewers (43,000) (69,000)
    Prime News–233,000 viewers (93,000) (46,000)

The total for all viewers in this time slot is 4,123,000. If you divide Glenn Beck’s 2,677,000 by 4,123,000 the resulting pertentage of “relative market share” (is there an insider term for this?) for that time slot is 65%. The charts you post that contain raw numbers don’t tell the whole story IMO and I’m am interested in “relative” based trending by time slot too.

Thanks in advance for any reply
    Windy

  29. bruce says:

Maddow down big once again. Larry King thumped her this time. The honeymoon is over for Rachel.

  30. Nightstar says:

    Demonjoe:

    I.E. comment awaiting moderation

In case you are reading this now, it is probably because you had 2 links in the comment. The filter apparently flags posts with more than 1 link. I hit that wall not long ago. Just fyi. :-)

  31. Demonjoe says:

Nightstar, thanks for the information, for a moment I thought they were going to delete my comment.

  32. Fella says:

Julie Banderas took over Fox Report today from Schlep Smith, he only got 3pmEST now..HAPPY TURKEY DAY ALL!!!

  33. markd says:

fella is that true? shep was pretty even but his voice was to booming. i’m surprised they didn’t put some big bame in there like miller or dobbs
    .

  34. Dbunt says:

You’ve gotta be kidding me I’ve heard that numbers don’t lie but you have to be skeptical that fox news is so far ahead in the numbers when this country just voted in a black democratic president. I am surprised no one ever questions there numbers and polls

  35. Dbunt says:

Guess you can buy the good ratings if you’re in the right circles!!!

  36. Patrice says:

Why didn’t Fox re-sign Laurie Dhue? When I read they resigned the blowheart Shepard Smith who is the most phony guy on TV. (excluding Oberman)I could not understand it.
Bring back Laurie Dhue to REPLACE Mr Smith.
She was smart and Bill could interview her standing up since
she is taller than most of the men on that station except for Bill O’Reilly.

  37. Demonjoe says:

Dbunt, FOX news being so high in the ratings has nothing to do with Barack Obama getting elected, FOX news has more independents and Democrats then the other stations do, so it’s not fair to say that all or most of FOX news viewers voted for someone other than Barack Obama. Just becuause you watch FOX news doesn’t mean you’re a Republican.

  38. cat7722 says:

1st….. i love the way conservatives are painted a “redneck neocons”….shows the true ignorance of the author

2nd….it seems any opinion or view that deviates from Obamas agenda is deemed “right-wing”. what’s that all about? There are “normal” people in america who recognize this path we’re being lead down is not the right one.

  39. JC says:

Shep Smith is no longer hosting Fox Report? Is that true? I tried to find articles on the net about this and came up dry. If someone can send me a link, that’d be great. Thanks

Also, they’re not going to move O’Reilly, Hannity, or Greta. Their ratings are great so there would be no point. And if their was ever a time to move Beck from 5:00 to 7:00, this would be it (assuming Shep is no longer anchoring Fox Report). So it would be FR at 5:00, Special Report at 6:00, then Fox’s 3 biggest stars – Beck, O’Reilly, and Hannity – would go 1,2,3.

However I think its unlikely they’ll do so. Fox’s lineup is doing great. Why change something good? That old quote comes to mind – “If it ain’t broken then don’t fix it”

  40. bruce says:

Add up all of Glenn Beck’s competitor’s numbers and multiply by 2 and he still beats the crap out of them. I never watch his show because it’s on at 2 pm on the West Coast, but how can Fox not move this guy into prime time while he’s so hot???

  41. james says:

To “bruce” the reason larry king live beat rachel maddow tuesday was because rachel wasnt the host that night..howard dean was the sub host he stinks at hosting

  42. Ryan says:

I watch all 3 cable stations. I don’t have a beef with any of them but -

Fox News is deffentally the most biased out of them all. I mean MSNBC does have have a slobbering love affair with Obama on everything but at least they cover other and more news stories.

As for Fox News, it doesn’t matter whos talking, it’s all GOP talking points.

I GUARANTEE YOU THAT IF YOU TURN ON FOX NEWS RIGHT NOW, THE HEADLINE ON THE BOTTOM WILL BE ABOUT OBAMA’S SINKING POLL NUMBERS, A TEA PARTY, OR SOMETHING BAD ABOUT HEALTH CARE.

I’m not bashing any of the news stations, because I watch them all, but just do it, turn on fox news at anytime of the day, and you’ll see a GOP talking point as the main headline on the bottom of the screen. Even read the ticker on the bottom, it’s always something bad about the obama administration lol.

Fox News really is more of a political outlit than a news station.

  43. JC says:

Ryan, I HIGHLY doubt you watch all 3 networks and came to that conclusion. Or, you just happened to not be watching MSNBC or CNN during the teaparties, bailouts, SEIU beatdowns, ACORN scandels, NEA propaganda, war on Fox and so on.

Seriously, you have the other networks making sex jokes about peotesters. MSNBC continously incites that people against Obama’s policies are racist. And you say Fox is biased?

    Give me a break.

  44. Ryan says:

    JC

Haha, I agree with you man. I’m not backing up CNN or MSNBC at all. They’re biased as hell too. The POINT I’m making is, what newsstations cover more global and regular news stories other than politics the most?

    Not FOX NEWS.

FOX NEWS reports about 85% political issues which are all GOP talking points. Who do the anchors interview most? Republican Senators.

  45. Jfan says:

this is to help Olbermann with his ratings!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MaJLbJDuAc

you can’t just watch it once!

  46. Nancy says:

Rachel performed poorly on Meet The Press a while back and it was obvious how outplayed she was. Kind of her Katie Courick interview, if you will. She will hate this, I hope she reads!

  47. shoey says:

omg, CNN’s numbers are just horrible, how do they stay in business?

  48. mkurbo says:

This is nuts ! – somebody needs to report or do a story on this blatant disparency…

Google hit counts (as of Saturday 11/28) in perspective:

    Copenhagen Climate Conference 6,920,000
    Copenhagen Climate Summit 6,130,000
    Copenhagen Treaty 2,810,000
    Copenhagen Total 15,860,000
Number of MSM stories on Copenhagen > 1000

    Climategate 10,900,000
    Climate Gate 6,200,000
    Global Warming Scandal 3,050,000
    Climategate Total 20,150,000
Number of MSM stories on Climategate < 10

    ?

  49. markd says:

mkurbo–fascinating numbers—-the greenies win–unfortunately climategate will come and go and this green thing will not stop

  50. Demonjoe says:

The green thing will never stop as long as the fringe media continues to undermine global warming scandals and obsess over global warming.

  51. Demonjoe says:

When are they going to give us the rating for this weekend and the whole week?

  52. pappykat says:

Keith Olbermann is proof to me that aliens do exist.

  53. Winston Smith (TruthMin) says:

    MSNBC observations.

The Ed Show? Basically the unholy developmentally delayed love child of Olberman and Madcow. Designed to warm the cockles of the hearts of the radical left with bland boring commentary.

Keith Olberman’s eyes are too far apart, which gives him and ET alien like appearance. This probabably means the alien overlords at the network will keep him on the air no matter how low his ratings go. Or at least until he is needed back home on Zeta Reticuli to mate with the Queen.

Rachel Madcow serves the angry lesbian demographic – getting rid of her would elicity howls of protest from gay groups and straight men who fantasize about doing it with angry butch lesbians wearing black hooker boots.

  54. shoey says:

Beck is getting the best of Hannity almost every day now, interesting…

  55. darla vargas. says:

cnn is a joke. msnbc is way better than cnn. poor cnn and it sucks to be cnn lol. i could care less about fox news.
