TV Ratings: Sons of Anarchy Penultimate Season 2 Episode down a bit

Posted on 25 November 2009 by Robert Seidman

Sons-of-Anarchy-November-24-2009

Last night’s episode of  Sons of Anarchy saw its ratings drop a bit  from the 1.9 rating it had last week with adults 18-49 to a  1.7 rating.  It was still the number one cable show with adults 18-49 for the night,  and its 3.438 million were also down slightly from last week’s 3.475 million.

Alan Sepinwall wasn’t as excited about last night’s episode as the prior week’s, but hey, it isn’t easy to string together amazing episodes that are consecutively more amazing each week indefinitely.  As for the ratings drop, I can only speculate.   Upcoming  holiday?  Or facing off against the finale of Dancing With the Stars?   It’s not that hard to imagine there might be a small bit of crossover of SOA and DWTS fans.  Ok, maybe it is that hard to imagine it…

Next week: season finale!

Hmm considering it is the second last episode of the saeson find it a little weird that viewers went down a bit, but then again an amazing episode was witnessed last night, after the whole season having to deal with characters internal struggles, and it negatively affecting the club, glad to see them go on the offensive, could not have the club bickering the entire season.

  2. johnthemon says:

good grief you have a one track mind.

  3. Haha Jon, it only seems so. In less than 2 months you can join the chorus of “Chuck, Chuck, Chuck, Chuck, Chuck! If you love Chuck so much, why don’t you marry it!”

I dunno, I don’t think it’s that inconceivable that 0.2 demo’s worth of guys (and maybe their spouses) that watch SoA were part of the, what, 3.0 demo discrepancy between Forgotten and what DWTS did last night. Especially if it’s not guys watching DWTS instead, but guys having to give the TV up for their wife.

Especially if you look at SoA’s total viewers only losing 35,000 total viewers vs. a demo drop of 0.2. There must be a healthy number of non-demo viewers watching the show, namely, guys 50+. Hell, they are the only ones buying American bikes :)

  5. forg says:

Quite a shocker, maybe because of the upcomingh holiday there in the US or some viewers were curious who DWTS haha

  6. forg says:

    ^ who *won DWTS

Speaking of holidays, will the site be up and running or will you guys be busy celebrating Thanksgiving there?

  7. j says:

Here’s an irrelevant question, Robert: What do you think the top show on TV in W 18-34 is?

I know Glee has been hitting above 5, but Desperate & Grey’s hit above 5 in 18-49 and probably skew female. But possibly more 35-49 year olds watch than 18-34?

Either way, is Glee most probably in the T3 at least?

  8. Mel says:

That was a great episode!! I love SOA!!

  9. Forg, I’d expect light posting. As far as the overnight ratings, will try to get around to at least posting those if the data is available.

  10. J, last week Grey’s was top w/ W18-34 by a wide margin (7.2 rating vs. 5.8 for House), then Glee (5.4), but no DH last week (AMAs: which was actually ahead of House and Glee w/a 5.9).

  11. Jersey says:

I think its the holiday, its a tight week for most and with work and prepping for travel everyone is scrambling
next week numbers I’m sure will be huge
prepping for the withdrawal as I type

  12. fischi says:

nice episode. sad to see it slide a bit in the ratings department, but if it was due to the dwts finale, the men who sacrificed the last episode to their “old ladies” as a thanksgiving peace offering, will hopefully claim the finale for themselves.

  13. marina says:

Love All episodes of Sons Of Anarchy!!! Look forward to more.

  14. tom says:

robert… you prob shouldn’t assume people who watch 1 show don’t watch another. so many have varied tastes. there’s crossover fans of shows all the time.

  15. Hot Pocket says:

Next week will be huge. I can definitely see between 4-5 million viewers and 2.0 in the demo.

  16. SOArocks says:

I read in an entertainment mag that Charlie Hunnam is leaving the show???? That might impact ratings a bit.

  17. DiamondSuave says:

I can tell you for a fact that I was not able to watch SOA for the last two weeks in my hotel room because of a Comcast dispute. They were only offering basic TV channels. I had to wait until the next day to download it from iTunes.

  18. DW says:

The episode was fantastic as usual. I expect the finale will see bigger numbers.

  19. Craig says:

This is without doubt the best show on American TV right now, Tuesdays episode was brilliant, god i wish this show got more than 13 episodes a season

  20. Mike says:

It would not surprise me if this is a result of it being before US Thanksgiving. People are off preparing for travel and even traveling in some cases.

I thought it was a good episode! Both my wife and I love this show!

I do not get it in Canada so I have to watch in via CastTV on the media center. Only so-so quality but I least I can watch it.

  21. Visan says:

Maybe SOA needs more naked Charlie Hunnam?! ;)

  22. fvp97218 says:

I find it hard to believe that there is even a percentage of dwts fans that would watch soa

  23. boone315 says:

This is a great series but it is around Thanksgiving, I could not watch live because like many others, visiting relatives and from a man point of view, no, we do not need more naked Charlie

  24. Robert says:

Sons of anarchy is the greatest show on the tube in years; Looking forward to season three, and four if anyone knows what the hell a great bunch of fans there are out there. I bought my first harly just because of the show, I would be highly dissapointed if the show ended after the third season….
