Corrected: Say Goodbye to Three Rivers as CBS Yanks It From Schedule

Posted on 30 November 2009 by Robert Seidman

Three-Rivers-Alex

File it under “no surprises here!”, but CBS has pulled Three Rivers from its schedule though plans to produce all 13 episodes ordered and will likely ultimately air them all.  Of course when and how they will be burned off is TBD.

Cold Case will not be moving up to the 9pm spot thoughAt least temporarily, CBS will air reruns of crime dramas in the 9 10pm slot (NCIS: Los Angeles next week and  Criminal Minds the following week).

  1. Tom says:

    “Sunday, Dec. 6

9:00-10:00 PM COLD CASE (New Time Period)

Err, that certainly looks like it is being moved

  2. Devdog says:

Robert, I’m a little confused. Your article says, “Cold Case will not be moving up to the 9pm spot though” However, the press release says “9:00-10:00 PM COLD CASE (New Time Period)” and the repeats you discussed are being aired in the 10pm spot.

  3. MarsPolarLander says:

3 Rivers will not be missed.

  4. rob says:

SO who didnt see this coming? A movie did better than Three Rivers ever did in that timeslot.

  5. don says:

good cbyesssssssss cya three rivers finally is all gone cbs should never have put it on in the 1st place but they woke up and its byeeeeee so now those actors have to find a real job next to go cold case and numbers haha

  6. forg says:

Yeah, I think Robert got it wrong base from that, Cold Case is moving back to 9pm

  7. I was wrong. I listened to Hibberd instead of reading the actual release (even though I included it!).

    Consider me chastened!

  8. Christopher says:

More out of work actors merry Christmas

  9. Kim says:

My guess , CBS tried both Cold Case and the Hallmark movie in Three River’s slot to test if the bad ratings of Three Rivers were because of the time slot or because Three Rivers is just not working.
With Cold C. and the Movie , both doing better than Three Rivers, CBS got the answer and now they have taken Three Rivers out.
I feel sorry for Alex , he was the sexiest Vamp in TV , but Dr Andy was just so boring to watch.

  10. Julia says:

Christopher, Three Rivers will be finishing its 13 episode order. No one has been fired quite yet. But the people who work on the show aren’t idiots. They saw this coming a mile away, and are probably just thanking their lucky stars that it’s lasted this long. And they’ll all be free to work on pilots in another month or so!

  11. don says:

let it go people they both suck and cold case will be canned in may and wont make it to next fall thank god i have the ass kicker abc soap DESPRATE HOUSEWIVES WHICH BEATS WHATEVER SHOW CBS PROGRAMS AT 9 BY 7 MILLION VIEWERS DH IS 15 MILLION SO TAKE THAT CBS

  12. S. says:

Julia, people that work on the shows are not stupid, but some people are delusional. Remember how entertaining Brooke Shields was around the time of the cancellation of Lipstick Jungle?

  13. Alex O'Loughlin's Biggest Fan says:

Dont worry! Us real fan know that the reason why there not airing the episodes now is because CBS is going to air the show after the superbowl! You read it here first. It will get, like, 50 million viewers, so CBS will need lots of new episodes to air in the winter to keep all of the new fans. CBS is not cancelling the show. Remember Moonlight? Millions of of stopped watching CBS after they cancelled our Alexs show, and there ratings went in the toilet! With Alex back on 3 Rivers, we’ve all come back to the network and thats why theyre ratings are up! Theirs no way theyll cancel a show with Alex again! Were already sending our panties and interpretive art based on the show to CBS! They know how powerful we are!

  14. hookedonmick says:

I agree with you Kim…..3R started out of the gate with a very bad premier eppy and it could not recover from it…..and I agree with you too Julia that the actors will now be able to move on and find another job…..

  15. Julia says:

S, of course, Brooke Shields is probably the last person on that show who was worried about being out of work.

  16. forg says:

Speaking of post Super Bowl slot (as the JBF spawn mentioned above) I can’t wait what CBS will choose for that slot.

As for the news, no surprise but at least all 13 episodes will be produced, maybe if CBS will air it, I imagine it being schedule it on Saturdays next year.

  17. Holly says:

I’m shocked it lasted this long. Why did CBS wait until after sweeps for this?

  18. Julia says:

Has CBS really not announced what will air post Super Bowl yet? Shouldn’t they already be selling ad time for that spot? My guess is they either go with NCIS or TBBT. Though if they really haven’t made any decision yet, it’ll probably be too late to have a one hour episode of TBBT, in which case they’ll just go with NCIS.

  19. Holly says:

^Maybe it will be announced with their mid-season schedule, which should be out soon.

  20. rich says:

This took longer than I thought! I was predicting three rivers to be the first axing of the year. Unfortunately I was wrong ;(. Although not officially announced I will call this an axing behind tbl, Hank, eastwick and trauma (sort of) – ive only included freshman dramas. The forgotten has lasted longer than I thought aswell, perhaps networks are being (a little more) patient?

  21. Tommy says:

Julia, I’m surprised they haven’t announced it yet too. Like you I think TBBT will get it, but I think the premiere of Survivor Heroes vs Villains would be a good choice too.

  22. Tommy says:

I don’t know how Survivor H vs V would timeout though. If the timing is right it might get the slot because the show could use the boost.

  23. RJ says:

Three Rivers isnt that bad. Not a great show, but it deserved better ratings.

  24. Michael says:

Alex O’Loughlin’s Biggest Fan- are you related to Joss’s Biggest Fan?

  25. forg says:

As much as I love Survivor, I hope CBS picks another show for that slot. My money is still for TBBT or The Mentalist. Wishing for TBBT though.

Maybe CBS will announce it tomorrow since most big news seems to be announced on Tuesdays(Wednesdays in my country)

  26. lainey says:

I do feel sorry for Alex O. Perhaps he should put up a photo of George Clooney to remind himself that you can be in several tv shows that either fail to get you really noticed, or folded, before you finally hit pay dirt in Tinself Town. If I understand how residuals work-and I am sure that there are many who will explain it to me if I get this wrong-every time a property that an actor is in is broadcast for the first time on “something” the actor gets residuals. I understand that Moonlight is now being broadcast by the Chiller Channel, so maybe he’ll still get a few extra bucks from that, unless he got paid when NBC/Uni bought the rights to show it on Syfy, and now they can just pass it around to their networks. I would think that non-U. S. actors worry more about being unemployed since their visas are rather dependent on them being employed, aren’t they?

  27. Susan says:

    It’s about friggin’ time!
(but I’m sure the Moonlight nutjobs will start the “Alex is so talented, he’ll be a star someday” choir right away)

  28. aaron says:

cold case is the better show of the two and if one has a hope of surviving its cold case. I signed the online petition and hopefully we will have a 8th season. I think one show will have to go because CBS is already gearing up a Criminal Minds spinoff. so unless gary unmarried and old christine are cancelled, three rivers is history and maybe cold case will be saved.

  29. MattStephens says:

They should try Numb3rs in the 10pm slot just for the heck of it!

  30. Morgan says:

The Alex fans are saying it is not canceled, only on hiatus LOL

  31. Mark D. says:

Robert, when Chuck comes back on Mondays will move to 9/8c?

And when will the other networks announce their Mid-Season Schedules??

  32. Dan says:

Three Rivers is gone. It took CBS an extra month than expected for them to do this, but this is the longest theyve gone in a fall season for them to cancel a series. CBS should schedule a replacement soon. Maybe Flashpoint or Miami Trauma

  33. the most surprising part of this story is the Jess Stone rerun

  34. Mark D. says:

*I meant will Heroes move to 9/8c?

  35. Dan says:

Mark D. – Most of the networks should announce the rest of their plans around now. And Heroes will move to 9 so Chuck will air at 8. No word yet on where the remaining 6 eps of Trauma will air.

  36. Mark: they will announce them when they announce them! It will almost certainly be sometime within the next 3 weeks.

P.S. Chuck will air at 8pm on Mondays and Heroes will move to 9pm; NBC already announced that much at least.

  37. insider says:

NCIS – LA will get the post superbowl slot. Here’s a quote from tvsquad from 2006 “…CBS has decided to hand the coveted post-Super Bowl timeslot to an episode of Criminal Minds. There was some speculation — maybe it was more wishful thinking than anything else — that the network would follow their broadcast of Super Bowl XLI with an episode of their emerging comedy How I Met Your Mother. But CBS decided to go with one of their tried-and-true procedurals instead.” CBS loves to build on positive momentum and NCIS-LA is their new darling. Maybe it’ll even be a crossover episode with NCIS.

3R never had a chance on Sundays, going up against three top ten shows in the demo. We’ll see what CBS tries to do there next year.

  38. JNE says:

Move Cold Case to Fridays and replace it with Medium.

Let CSI: Miami revive itself to Sundays and let Hawaii Five-0 take its spot on Mondays. They could also move The Mentalist to finally kill off Desperate Housewives.

  39. Dan says:

Im surprised ABC hasnt announced it yet. Its basically December and by now they should have unveiled their plans, since ABC usually makes the most changes besides FOX. And CBS putting Three Rivers on a “hiatus” is just a fancy way of saying were not going to officially axe this show until May so we can give fans false hope. If anything its likely that CBS burns Three Rivers off on saturdays. They almost never do that with axed shows, but Rivers has been kept on the longest for a freshman fall drama, so CBS could do that. CBS is in good shape so my guess is over the next few saturdays they burn the remaining 5 Three Rivers off. Meanwhile they should schedule a replacement for January, maybe Flashpoint or Miami Trauma.

  40. Don J says:

Put Flashpoint in the 10pm timeslot. I guarantee the ratings will go up dramatically. Plus, FP was actually a very good procedural drama and got good ratings when it was a summer show and when it was on Friday’s.

  41. Don J says:

Plus, Flashpoint still has 9 episodes left from season 2. Air those on Sunday’s while the 13 that were ordered are still in production. They will be buying themselves at least 2 more months.

  42. Dan says:

Don J – Thats what I hoped CBS wouldve done had they have pulled Three Rivers after 4 eps. They have 22 episodes of Flashpoint, 9 of which have been produced since April. Id put Flashpoint at 10pm sundays beginning January. Then move The Good Wife to Fridays at 10 once Numb3rs finishes up (to see if Wife can survive without NCIS) then premiere Miamia Trauma Tuesdays at 10 all by March. So possibly

    Sundays
    7:00 60 Minutes
8:00 Undercover Boss or Arranged Marriage (January)
    8:00 The Amazing Race (Feb-May)
    9:00 Cold Case
    10:00 Flashpoint

    Mondays
8:00 How I Met Your Mother
    8:30 Accidentally on Purpose (Jan-March)
    8:30 Rules of Engagement (March-May)
9:00 Two and a Half Men
    9:30 The Big Bang Theory
    10:00 CSI Miami

    Tuesdays
    8:00 NCIS
    9:00 NCIS LA
    10:00 The Good Wife (Jan-March)
    10:00 Miami Trauma (March-May)

    Thursdays
8:00 Undercover Boss or Arranged Marriage (January)
    8:00 Survivor (Feb-May)
    9:00 CSI
    10:00 The Mentalist

    Fridays
    8:00 Ghost Whisperer
    9:00 Medium
    10:00 Numb3rs (Jan-March)
    10:00 The Good Wife (March-May)

  43. Lucia says:

Now , Where is Ms . Tassler and her actor centric remarks?
Alex is a very good actor but saying that Moonlight was just because of him was stupid. A few woman with a lot of time posting all over the net how hot Alex is never meant most of Moonlight viewers felt the same . Don’t expect this Moonlight fan to pay for a Save Three Rivers ad, not even for a stamp

  44. Mark D. says:

    Thanks Robert!

  45. Jon says:

NCIS LA is a bit too new to get the post Superbowl plus it already has a cushy lead in from NCIS. My guess is The Big Bang Theory (the one I want to get the slot) or The Mentalist (the most likely choice), NCIS is already established and is unlikely to gain much from the Superbowl.

  46. Dan says:

The thing about The Mentalist is that its already proved itself. Maybe NCIS LA, if their going for a comedy then they’ll probably do Big Bang Theory.

  47. hookedonmick says:

I am a Alex fan but I am not saying it is on hiatus….it is cancelled…no surprise….the show was not good enough…..and no I am not a ML nut who thinks this looks good for a movie or return….which is something I am starting to see pop up on other sites….so please don’t lump all of us in the same pot….

  48. Holly says:

    @hookedonmick,
I actually do feel sorry for the sane Moonlight fans. A few crazies gave all the fans a bad rep. I usually try to specify that I’m talking about the nuts, but unfortunately they are the ones that tend to garner attention and stick in the memory.

  49. Julia says:

Post-Super Bowl is not about gaining something other than money. The network will put what they will be able to sell for the highest amount of money. There is pretty much zero evidence that getting the post-Super Bowl slot has any sort of long-term effect, so why waste the spot on something they can’t sell for as much as a more established show?

  50. hookedonmick says:

Thanks Holly….I know what you mean….some fans still leave a bitter taste in my mouth….and I know it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things but I hate that Alex may forever be linked to those insane fans…..

  51. Don J says:

I doubt they would throw The Mentalist in the Post-Super Bowl slot. CBS already used it last season in the Post-AFC NFL Playoff game last season.

  52. heather says:

I enjoyed Three Rivers. I am so-so sick of nothing but Amazing Race, Survivor, CSI, NCSI, NCSI-Miami, NCSI-NY, Cold Case, Criminal Minds, etc. etc. The world has gone crazy when all that interest them is blood and gore. When a show gives you insight to transplants and has an outstanding cast with lots of chemistry, but CBS cancels. They did the same with Moonlight (which I think is the best Vampire show ever produced) canceled. There are only two shows on CBS worth watching, The Good Wife and The Mentalist. On any other channel except CBS this show, Three Rivers, would have been a hit and allowed to finish the season.

  53. Dan says:

The best guess is NCIS LA (which CBS plans to have on the schedule for a while) or if a comedy The Big Bang Theory which has been renewed for another year already.

  54. Holly says:

    @heather,
The only broadcast network that would call a 1.8 in the demo a hit is the CW. NBC is in bad enough shape that they’ll accept a 1.8, but they wouldn’t call it a hit. Those ratings on ABC or FOX would mean cancellation just as quickly (or more so) as on CBS.

  55. Cody says:

CBS needs to go the Cable arena with a USA competitor and put shows like three rivers and cancelled shows like the Unit on it.

  56. Holly says:

As far as the Superbowl spot. Yes, there is no evidence that the post-Superbowl spot has ever helped a show, but that doesn’t stop the networks from trying. I could see BBT or Mentalist since CBS wants them to be their next hits or NCIS: LA, which they really want to succeed.

  57. JNE says:

Flashpoint is my first choice for Sundays at 10pm, starting in January. FP has never had that huge lead-in before and it could be just as big as a hit as Criminal Minds is.

  58. Holly says:

    @Cody,
While CBS would do well to get involved in cable, their best bet would be finding original series for the net, not using it to air their cast-offs.

  59. JNE says:

For Super Bowl it needs to be a comedy this time around. CBS should do a double lead-out with Big Bang Theory airing first then NCIS: LA or The Mentalist right after.

  60. forg says:

JNE: But the slot is only for an hour, right?

Anyways, if they pick Big Bang, they’ll probably air two back to back episodes if not one hour ep (but as Julia pointed it might be too late for that to produce) or another sitcom will be paired with it, most likely 2.5 Men which definitely get huge ratings for CBS.

I hope CBS pick the sitcoms for the slot

  61. JNE, they really only have about an hour to play with by the time the game and post game coverage end. Superbowl starts ~6:20pm ET.

I’ll be surprised if it’s not NCIS or NCIS: LA at this point. FYI, when I asked CBS about announcement timing earlier this month I was led to believe the announcement of the post Super Bowl slot would come after the mid-season schedule announcements.

Parenthood: in between tentative agreements and final agreements and then final agreements between NBC/Comcast, and then regulatory approval, there will be more than enough time to cover that news. Nothing is going to happen to NBC’s schedule tomorrow, or next week or next month as a result of the the tentative agreement w/Vivendi.

  62. Parenthood says:

Robert, you took my post off about NBC? Why, when that’s important News?

  63. Parenthood says:

I’m sorry I just read your post.

  64. oliva says:

cbs committed an epic fail by canceling the unit

that show had higher ratings than both cc and rivers they are now paying the full price

  65. Dan says:

Forg – If it is sitcoms then its likely just 1 episode of each series likely Men then Bang theory though the shows are airing the next night anyway so CBS may not air comedies that night.

  66. Jon says:

I think The Mentalist is likely to go to Thursday 9pm next season whether or not it gets The Superbowl slot. If The Big Bang Theory gets it, should it be two episodes or another sitcom like How I Met Your Mother.

When FOX gets the Superbowl, Glee is definetly getting that slot should it get a second season.

  67. Parenthood says:

NBC should have given their Super Bowl to Chuck. I think if Gaspin was heading NBC at the time, he would have done that.

  68. Parenthood: you’re wrong, and not even close to being right. There is NO chance – none, nada, zilch, zip, zero, zed, that Gaspin would’ve given the post Super Bowl slot to Chuck. Chuck had the bad combo of:

    1. Wasn’t the way to make the most money
    2. Wasn’t the way to make the most money
    3. Wasn’t the way to make the most money
    4. Wasn’t the way to make the most money
    5. Wasn’t produced by NBC

  69. RealisticExpectations says:

    About damned time.

And now the whiny fangirls will start their “I Hate CBS” lament, with tearing of hair and renting of clothes.

  70. ragincajun1987 says:

This is what I’d like to see CBS do at midseason:

    Monday
    HIMYM
    Christine
    2.5 Men
    TBBT
    CSI:Miami

    Tuesday – Same

    Wednesday
    Cold Case
    Criminal Minds
    CSI:NY

    Thursday – Same

    Friday
    GW
    Medium
    Flashpoint

    Sunday
    60 Minutes
    Rules of Engagement
    Gary Unmarried
    TAR
    Miami Trauma

  71. Tony says:

Oh please, there’s no way in hell Chuck is going to get the post SuperBowl slot. NBC is still reeling from that 3-D episode fiasco.

  72. Lynn says:

Three Rivers had been improving as a show. You have to give CBS some credit for supporting it this long. But the whole premise was odd and the cast never really gelled and had nothing to do but look really really serious. That creative spark was missing and the chemistry of the cast seemed forced. Too bad.

  73. Monica says:

Most of those Alex O fans are crazy, obsessed and over the top. He was the least talented actor on the show. Daniel Henney, Alfre Woodard and Kate Moennig acted circles around him.

  74. Ninja1088 says:

Good, I’m glad to see CC back where it should have stayed all along.. in the 9 p.m. slot. This is likely to be its last season for a number of reasons but the biggest ones in my option? The 10 p.m. slot and a crappy lead in show.

  75. lori says:

    Just bring back MOONLIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  76. Amy says:

When Moonlight was canceled I was devastated , but now I don’t give a toss about Three Rivers being canceled. I knew before about the importance of Organ Donation , a show about it , just boring boring. I cannot understand they picked up this show in the first place.

  77. RealisticExpectations says:

    …and away they go.

  78. Julia says:

ragincajun, to me, that schedule looks like you’re just trying to save your favorite shows (from what I can see, that’s Christine and Cold Case) rather than living in reality. There’s no way that schedule will ever happen for a variety of reasons, including putting comedies on Sunday up against Fox’s animation block would be a horrible horrible idea. Also, you seem to have forgotten that Accidentally on Purpose had more episodes ordered and will be on the midseason schedule. It’s ok. I forget about that sometimes, too.

  79. Mia says:

I’m VERY sad to see Three Rivers pulled….I hope they try again in another time slot or at least air the episodes in the can!

  80. cindy says:

this great show was not given a chance here in ohio, it kept getting bumped becasue of football and the show wouldn’t be shown in its entirety and you would miss have the show if you were taping it. The same reason the Unit didn’t make it in this time slot. Nothing in this time slot does well because of football. Please say they are going to finish out the stories so we know what happens to Kuol, does he get his heart.

  81. Parenthood says:

Well, Nick C suggested that Chuck would have been better than the Office.
As for the 3D episode, that was a horrible experiment. I mean the episode wasn’t bad, but the experiment was bad.

  82. Parenthood says:

Too bad Chuck isn’t produced by NBC.

  83. Parenthood says:

Besides, Nick C thinks that this viral campaign that NBC is putting on for Chuck will work. Especially if they promote it heavily during the Winter Olympics.

  84. Tommy says:

Parenthood Nick C has been wrong in the past, don’t get me wrong I like his input, but I take what he says with a grain of salt.

  85. Alex says:

Nick C is also quite insane/fan pandering when it comes to Chuck – the suggestion that it would have done better out of the Super Bowl by any measure than The Office is just one example of this.

On the subject of Three Rivers, its really only surprising that its taken them this long to do it. Presumably the remaining episodes will land on the summer schedule or at best slotted into Numb3rs slot what that ends its reduced run.

And when it comes to the post-Super Bowl slot I’m still tipping my hat in the general direction of The Mentalist although NCIS is the other obvious choice. It really depends on whether CBS is chasing pure bottom line (in which case it’ll be NCIS without doubt) or whether they want to try and increase the profile of The Mentalist, which is ultimately looking likely as the new Thursday flagship.

  86. Don J says:

This whole situation with Alex O’Loughlin confuses me. I know he has alot of fans, especially female, but I thought his fans and his CBS loved having him back on the air since Moonlight got axed 2 years ago.

I know the timeslot sucked, which has been the main complaint from Day 1, but were people turned off by this show because it was just another medical procedural? I know there is an over-abundance of medical shows on network TV right now…was that this show’s doom?

I read some fans prefer seeing him in an action show/crime procedural.

I kind of feel bad for 3 Rivers creator Carol Barbee. She is now 0-3 as a showrunner on CBS (Jericho, Swingtown and now this)

  87. Jose says:

oh come on guys! why are you all giving Three Rivers such a hard time?!?! just because you hate it doesnt mean everyone does too! there are thousands of other people from around the globe that want to watch and dont get the chance because theyre not showing it in their country! if you get to watch NCIS, Cold Case or ones you like, cant you let other people watch their favourite shows as well??

do you guys even have any idea how much hard work these actors put into putting this show together?? Alex O’Loughlin went as far as to work along side and observing the real Dr. Gonzo Gonzalez, who Dr. Yablonski is based upon. these actors studied so hard to be able to understand each medical procedure they will be acting it out. this is what i call dedication this show has given a lot of people a better understand of organ transplant.

i really dont understand why you all hate Three Rivers, yet you dont hate medical shows that are real! at least Three Rivers has actually made some impact on the audience who are actually watching!

    shame on you!

  88. Parenthood says:

Well, Nick C was right when Fox picked up Dollhouse for a 2nd season. Anyway, I rest my case.

  89. Parenthood says:

And I don’t always agree with Nick C. For instance, I happen to think that True Blood is one of the best shows on tv right now. Not the best. But one of them. He doesn’t like True Blood. He also thinks the BSG remake is awful. Those are 2 areas where we disagree.

  90. Tommy says:

Well Parenthood not to argue the point, but he’s also the one that said Heroes was going to be held till midseason so the writing could improve and that NBC was going to do a 1 hour version of the biggest loser in the fall, and then expand it to 2 hours come midseason.

  91. Don J says:

    Jose:
Most of the criticism from what I have seen on this website has been the poor scheduling/timeslot and the terrible demo numbers it’s been getting for a CBS procedural drama. It also didn’t help that the Pilot was re-shot and some characters were re-casted and got bad critical buzz.

But, there are alot worse shows on TV than a drama about organ transplantations, which I think is a noble cause to inform the public more about.

I just want to know for those who are fans of Alex O, did they think the show sucked or is there too many medical shows on TV right now and this simply didn’t make the cut quality-wise?

  92. Gloria MLBIT says:

I am a HUGE Alex O’Loughlin fan and it’s not only because of Moonlight…It is however because of Moonlight that I became a fan and watched his other movies/shows…NOW with that being said..I did not believe that the show would make it. I think for one his acting ability is best shown in a sort of bad boy way not a lovie dovie doctor…. Is that because he was a vampire in Moonlight…NO…it is because I have seen his stuff and believe his acting is best at that…NOT that he can’t do love stuff we all know he can I just believe he is better as a bad guy.

I am sad for Alex that once again he has put his heart and soul into a project that is has once again failed on CBS. I did not want this to happen but then again part of me is happy because now I can say to Nina Tesler of CBS…See it was not ONLY Alex that the MOONLIGHT FANS wanted to see…yes it made it better because LOOK AT HIM…DUH..but for me personally I loved the show because of the SHOW not because of him..Hell I didn’t even like Alex himself till December of that year and started looking him up and watching his other stuff. Then I found out he was a really good actor which made me like Moonlight and his character Mick St John way more.

I can’t wait to see him in The Back-Up Plan with Jennifer Lopez. I hope it works out for him and does good he needs a break.

Alex I know your are probably not reading this kind of stuff BUT just in case you are, Your fans are behind you all the way we love you and your work BUT man please listen to us somewhat and get a gig that it right for you not just because you thinks will do something good for the world…its a noble thing you do with the blood drives and then the donate life stuff but your young in your career and maybe that sort of stuff should wait a while and concentrate on getting something out there that will stick..then sock it to the public.

  93. Alex says:

Don maybe he just don’t have many fans, he’s been the lead actor in two shows that were axed because of poor ratings…

  94. Shaz says:

I differentiate between shows that I like vs. shows that I think are good — they’re not always the same thing. I’m a big fan of Moonlight, despite its many flaws. I also watch True Blood and Vampire Diaries, which are better shows than Moonlight in many ways, but for whatever reason, haven’t touched me the way Moonlight did.

I wouldn’t say I’m a big fan of Alex O’Loughlin because I’ve only seen him in Moonlight, Criminal Minds and now Three Rivers — three shows that I would have watched, or at least checked out, even if he wasn’t in them. (I’ve watched vampire shows since Forever Knight and Criminal Minds since it started.) So it’s more that I’m intrigued by Alex because he seems like in interesting guy with a colorful past, based on interviews I’ve seen.

I don’t like Three Rivers because, simply enough, it’s a bad show. Most critics panned it for good reason. A lot of the Three Rivers fans admit that they never watched medical dramas until Three Rivers and wouldn’t be watching Three Rivers if Alex wasn’t in it. I watched ER, Chicago Hope and now House and Grey’s Anatomy. Not only have I seen almost all of Three Rivers storylines before (which is natural and expected) but they were told better, with more non-stereotypical characters and unpredictable outcomes, on other medical dramas.

I’m sure the cast and crew on Three Rivers gave it their best effort, and the show supports a good cause. But good intentions alone can’t make a good show.

I’m extra hard on Three Rivers compared to other bad shows because I want to see Alex in a good show — “good” being a show that I would want to watch even if he isn’t in it. The sooner Three Rivers is canceled, the sooner he can move on to something better.

And Other Alex, you’re right. O’Loughlin and Moonlight doesn’t actually have THAT many fans compared to say, Firefly/Nathan Fillion fans. They’re just very vocal for their size. I’ve checked out a lot of the Alex/Moonlight fanboards and most just have a few hundred members or at most, a few thousand. And you see the same names posting across all of them. Alex O’Loughlin himself has around 10,000 “friends” on MySpace.

Those numbers aren’t enough to make even the tiniest blip in the ratings, so I can’t imagine CBS counting on Alex’s fans to make or break any show that he’s in. If anything, maybe CBS hoped that his appeal to the small group who loved Moonlight would translate to a larger general public if they put him in a more mainstream show.

  95. Shaz says:

Just to clarify, I didn’t mean that Firefly/Nathan Fillion have a massive fanbase. Just that as small as the FF/NF fanbase is, the Moonlight/Alex fanbase is way smaller. As a comparison, Nathan Fillion has 48,000 “friends” on MySpace and 329,000 followers on Twitter.

  96. Dan says:

Julia – In AOP’s case it does have 18 eps, but their still likely to run out by early March. The only rreplacement this season comedy wise would be Rules in that slot, and its likely Rules may air some new eps wednesday at 8:30 in place of Gary Unmarried repeats.

  97. MaddiePaddie says:

I really am surprised that it lasted as long as it did. And what’s the point of completing production on the remaining episodes? It’s not an official cancellation but it may as well be. Anything made after this point is not going to be anyone’s best work.

I did watch TR because of Alex at first and I do know other people that did too. The show just never did anything for me. It was just too predictable and morbid. Basically the 1st person you saw was going to die. Nothing exciting there and the characters all seemed so flat. I gave up after a few weeks.

Anyone that says CBS did not give it a chance is crazy! They seemed very accomodating and forgiving, given the bad ratings right from the start. It was also promoted quite heavily. In my opinion, CBS gave it every opportunity to succeed. In the end it just didn’t matter what time slot it was in. TR just wasn’t that good. It didn’t work.

  98. Michael J says:

    @ MaddiePaddie

I sense that the accountants have again reared their heads and suggested that instead of throwing away money on episodes they have already ordered the network should go ahead and air them.

  99. Janice says:

Daniel Henney has way more fans than Alex and this was his first time on American tv. Alex fans are just over zealous and crazy. They sit at the computer and make up many names and profiles to make it look like he has more than that. Some fans are voting 200 times a day for 3 rivers to win a peoples choice award. They need to get a life because Alex is nowhere near that good of an actor. Mediocre at best.

  100. insider says:

to those who say the post-superbowl slot has never had a lasting effect – Grey’s Anatomy went from a top ten show to the top scripted show after airing in that time slot. That’s where a good shower scene can take you.

Giving NCIS:LA all those eyeballs is a way for CBS to tee up the show for a move next year, maybe even to thursdays where they can get a lot more $/commercial than they can on tuesdays.

TBBT is doing great on Mondays and CBS can’t get the same $ selling Mondays as they can other nights of the week, esp thursdays. The show doesn’t need the help and there’s no payoff to giving it such a huge boost.

  101. Sixto says:

I am still mad at CBS for moving The Unit from Tuesday nights to the “death slot”. That move alone set the show up for failure. When people with DVRs are still having issues catching the show on time you know you have problems.

CBS should take the FOX approach to the NFL overage (Whatever is left over you run a postgame show out of). Of course they never would do that because 60 mins has been on since the Hoover administration.

  102. hope says:

CBS will never keep any show of value. Three Rivers gave the public a chance to see transplants and they rewards of being a donor. The cast was great and had chemisty. CBS only keeps the criminal focused shows like CSI, COLD CASE, NCIS, NCSI-NY, NCSI-MIAMI, NCSI-LA, CRIMINAL MINDS, ETC. It’s sad when the public is fed shows that dwells on the hardship and hardaches of the killer AND it’s victims. It also fuels to the criminal ways of getting past their crimes and that notoriety pays, and how to get away with a crime. CBS you may have the rating but you SUCK at giving the American people anything of value. I am so tired of your blood and gore shows and the reality TV I have turned over to other networks and I can only hope others will follow.

  103. Shaz says:

Please! The public is not fed anything. CBS airs what their audience wants to see. CBS has tried plenty of times to break out of the procedural mold — Moonlight, Ex List, Viva Laughlin, Swingtown, Jericho, Unit — without much ratings success. I’m sure CBS would love to have a hit show that’s not a procedural or spinoff.

As for the “blood and gore” shows, gimme a break. I remember when Three Rivers started some people said how nice it was that Three Rivers doesn’t show icky blood and guts stuff like the CSI shows and those other medical dramas. And in the very next episode (and in other episodes since), Three Rivers had an operating room scene that showed closeups of that icky blood and guts stuff. Yet not one person complained. Why is that? Biased much?

  104. Johnny says:

I never watched Three Rivers but I like the fact that the network gave a scripted show a chance to catch on. Recently the trend has been to give a new show a couple of episodes and if it doesn’t catch traction yank it off the schedule and replace it with a cheap reality show. There hasn’t been a new hit reality show on the major networks in a while so maybe they’re moving back towards scripted fare.

  105. moviefnatic says:

Please keep in mind that not all Moonlight fans were Alex O’Loughlin fans and I hope maybe CBS will realise that now.

  106. 5506/Orange5506 says:

To everyone that is reading this, it’s:
    CSI
    CSI: MIAMI
    CSI: NEW YORK

    NCIS
    NCIS: LOS ANGELES

Correct your spelling before replying.

  107. jocor says:

Well good thing they cancelled The Unit. I knew Three Rivers was going to be HUGE!

  108. Gaaa says:

Three Rivers isnt bad show and s still hope it will get better ratings and be renewed. bet that chance is very, very small.! Three Rivers is much better than lot of shows on TV with more apisodes and better ratings.

  109. Joanne Schum says:

I am very upset that Three Rivers is cancelled. What a great show.
For those who are “glad”, you obviously have not had a transplant. I had a double lung transplant, due to Cystic Fibrosis, 12 years ago.

The show is not totally realistic, how could it be, it is only 1 hour long. The show is not to show pre and post transplant people what the process is, and how it works. It is to promote organ donation. So they really push the stories. Guy needs a liver, goes to hospital, they find one, and gets a transplant… of course that is not how it works. But for organ donation, it is so important to have a show like this on.

  110. Joanne Schum says:

I forgot, if you registered to be an organ donor (license, or a donor card) before July 23, 2008, you are not a donor. The United States, now has a donor registry ( by computer) you need to sign up again. Great reason, this way when you die, your family will be told you wanted to be a donor, and they cannot change that fact. So please check your info and sign up again.

  111. Joanne Schum says:

I keep forgetting to share more ( I am on 32 types of medicines for my lung transplant). To donate solid organs, you must die in a hospital setting, on the ventilator. Reason being that your solid organs need blood and oxygen to be viable. If you have a cardiac death (which most of us do) we can donate skin, corneas, blood vessels, bone etc. So much can help those have an improved life.

  112. Joanne Schum says:

Told you my brain was fried. For those of you who posted some “happiness” of this show being cancelled “about time” “it was not a good show” “how did it last so long” etc. I hope you are donor’s, and if you are, great. But if you have that feeling, just pray you never need an organ, it can happen to anyone, anytime, (kidney, liver, heart, lung etc). Or a family, or friend might need a transplant, and terrible as it is to say, your child or someone’s child may be born with an illness requiring a transplant. It happens.

  113. Joanne Schum says:

One more thing… I could talk for ages (thank you donor and donor family) ( and type forever) Someone just asked me, “was it worth it, you have to take 82 pills a day (and insulin), my answer is YES, YES, YES. What I have done in the last 12 years is amazing, drove a motorbike, drive tractors, plow driveway, soaring in a glider, attend the transplant games – 1/4 mile run, race/walk, volleyball, and 5k.
I have run in the local Run Like Hell 5k – for Cystic Fibrosis. Also have flown over 75 times since I got my new lungs, bike, hike, swim, you name it. I can do it. Never could I do those things before I got new lungs.. so is it worth it? What do you think?

  114. Holly says:

I’m nearly positive that the comments about the show were (go figure) about the SHOW, not about real life organ donation.

  115. diva says:

I don’t think even turning “Dr. Andy” into a vampire could have saved Three Rivers…It just wasn’t entertaining or interesting

  116. Michelle says:

How can a show that almost nobody watches help in the Organ Donation cause? The characters were not interesting enough to make people care. This show was terrible , sorry . I hate shots , they really freak me out , because of Moonlight I donated Blood , twice. Give people a character they love , and they will follow. 3R and their characters were not able to click with the viewers .

  117. DesperateLecter says:

The Mentalist, even if moved on Sundays at 9pm won’t kill off Desperate Housewives. Come on…where’s The Mentalist on the 18-49 demographic??

  118. patricia says:

CBS could have at least given us a final episode.

  119. Holly says:

^If by “final episode” you mean “a finale that gives the show a god send-off and the viewing audience some closure,” that would have involved making this decision at least a month ago (for a quick, one-episode quick wrap-up, longer for a closing arc), which means fans would be whining that they made the decision too soon, and didn’t give it a chance, and it was getting better but no one would tune in because they knew it was canceled, etc., etc..

Besides, if the writers have any sense, the 13th episode will provide some closure because they should have known it was going to get canned. Since CBS is still indicating that they will air the remaining episodes at some point, you still have some hope of getting some closure.

  120. Holly says:

    grr…ignore the second “quick”

  121. Dan says:

I think the 13th episode produced should give some closure. Im hopefull that CBS will burn the eps off on Saturdays. As for next season I think CBS’s best bet is to move The Mentalist to sundays at 9 in place of the axed Cold Case and air a new drama Sundays at 10 after The Mentalist and Thursdays at 10 in Mentalist’s old slot. WIth Numb3rs likely axed, if CBS renews Good Wife, then they should move the series to 10pm fridays to see how well it does with Ghost Whisperer and Medium (which will probably both be renewed) And then with that they can air anothjer new drama 10pm tuesdays, so maybe the schedule could look like this.

    Sundays
    7:00 60 Minutes
    8:00 The Amazing Race
    9:00 The Mentalist
    10:00 NEW DRAMA

    Mondays
8:00 How I Met Your Mother
    8:30 NEW COMEDY
9:00 Two and a Half Men
    9:30 The Big Bang Theory
    10:00 CSI Miami

    Tuesdays
    8:00 NCIS
    9:00 NCIS LA
    10:00 NEW DRAMA

    Wednesdays
    8:00 Rules of Engagement
    8:30 Gary Unmarried
    9:00 Criminal Minds
    10:00 CSI NY

    Thursdays
    8:00 Survivor
    9:00 CSI
    10:00 NEW DRAMA

    Fridays
    8:00 Ghost Whisperer
    9:00 Medium
    10:00 The Good Wife

    I just sent my spleen!

  123. Dan says:

I dont think even a heart, a brain, a stomach, and a liver will save the series but its all I have so Ill send away.

  124. elaine says:

As much as I love Alex, and he is the only reason I watched 3 eps before calling it quits, Three Rivers was a dog from the get go. Now maybe CBS will admit they messed up big time when they Cancelled Moonlight and bring it back. Three Rivers is the only NEW SERIES I have watched on CBS since the cut ML and I will not be watching any other new ones.

  125. Dan says:

Well the 2007-2008 season was horrible drama wise for CBS and the strike didnt help. However had Moonlight been renewed, its liekly that it would have turned out like Pushing Daisies, or Dirty Sexy Money, despite producing eps after the strike. That season CBS axed all of their sophomore and freshman dramas. This year we all knew from the start that Three Rivers would be axed but it took an extra month, likely because Alex O’loughlin was in the series. Its also likely that CBS didnt want to pull the series early because of the money they would have wasted on unaired eps. We all expected this to happen but because of the fact that CBS is calling this a “hiatus” the show may be burned off on saturdays or in the summer. Anytime CBS pulls a drama from the sched, it is cancelled but this time its a hiatus. I think its about time for CBS to dust off those 9 Flahspoint eps and air them in the 10pm slot.

  126. Lisa says:

Terrible show. Good riddance. Grey’s, ER, and others have all aired far better transplant stories than anything Three Rivers has so far spat out. If CBS wants to get a successful non-procedural, they need to make better pilot picks.

  127. Dan says:

CBS made the mistake of airing Three Rivers at 9 and Cold Case at 10, when they should have aired CC at 9 and TR at 10. Rivers still wouldve likely been axed and this still is Case’s final season but atleast numbers may have been better. Cold Case as a veteran can compete better with Housewives, Family Guy, and Football, while Rivers could have competed better with B&S. I still think CBS should just burn Rivers off on Saturdays. Hopefully if they announce their midseason sched soon, Flashpoint will air 10 beginning Jan, Miami Trauma can air 10pm Tuesdays beginning March and Good Wife can then move to Fridays when Numb3rs finishes up. By doing this, the established Flashpoint can help out sundays with Cold Case, freshman Miami Trauma can get a chance to to well by airing out of NCIS LA as opposed to the lower rated Cold Case, and The Good Wife can air with the compatible Ghost Whisperer and Medium as a potential trio for next season.

  128. Patrice says:

What a waste of talent. I wish they could have changed the storylines.

  129. cook says:

DonJ – I don’t feel bad at all for Carol Barbee. In my opinion she is an abysmal showrunner, and her track record speaks for itself. Unlike the cast and crew who have had to live with her decisions, she was the main cause for the fate of the shows you mentioned. Heavy handed, and unimaginative, it took months for her to admit that her writing of the premier episode was lacking and that was even after the pilot was re-shot. At premier week at the Paley, the episode to be aired (alongside Medium, The Good Wife and NCIS:LA) was pulled, the moderator saying only “It wasn’t ready.” This was 3 weeks from air, after having months to get it right.

Considering how quickly CBS makes decisions, I wonder when they will “get” that Ms. Barbee needs to be canceled too.

  130. Mark W says:

Out of the 3 medical dramas this season: Trauma, Mercy, and 3 Rivers. 3 Rivers looked to be the most watchable. But all three are very weak and poorly written stories. 3 Rivers really had no medical in their drama. It was just maybe 1 or 2 patient stories chopped together. This does not seem to be the season for medical or police dramas.

  131. Rob K. says:

If CBS is unhappy with “Numbe3rs” at 10 p.m. Fridays, why not try it on Sundays? I’ll bet it would work well. I’m sad they’re slashing the eps for this season.

  132. Dan says:

Rob K – its too late, the “Numb3rs” will be up by February and its likely CBS will just replace the series rather than move it (Numb3rs has never aired anywhere but 10pm fridays) The series along with Cold Case is done. Numb3rs is expensive but it had a great run, and helped put CBS on the map for fridays for 6 years. 10 episodes will ahve aired by December 4, which means the rest will air Jan 8, 15, 22, and Feb 5, 12, and the finale on the 19th. If I were in charge at CBS Id put Flashpoint in Sundays at 10 ASAP, Move The Good Wife to 10pm fridays and premiere Miami Trauma at 10pm Tuesdays. I think Good Wife would be a better fit 10pm fridays as opposed to Flashpoint or Miami Trauma, and Flashpoint would work better airing at 10 sundays then another new medical series. Plus 10pm Tuesdays is a good place to launch a new drama in, after both NCIS series. This is the last year for Numb3rs sadly, but atleast the producers have prepared a finale.

  133. hookedonmick says:

I would like to have known if 3R would have done better at the 10pm slot on Tuesdays with the good lead ins….

  134. Dan says:

hookedonmick – Three Rivers would have done better defintiely, but who knows if it would have done as good as The Good Wife. Wife had a good lead in from a freshman series NCIS LA, which in turn did well airing out of NCIS. In comparison Three Rivers only had an Amazing Race lead in which wasnt great, and at the same time heavy competition from Desperate Housewives, Family Guy/American Dad, and Football, which if your a new series isnt good. Even if Three Rivers aired 10pm sundays, who knows if it could have held on to the declining Cold Case. For next season Id suggest moving The Mentalist to 9pm sundays, and airing new dramas at 10pm Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays (If Good Wife is renewed, it can replace Numb3rs on Fridays). That way If all other dramas are renewed and stay in their slots, new dramas can air out of The Mentalist, NCIS LA, and CSI, which I think is fair for CBS.

  135. Berlinwall says:

Had they used the talents of Kate and Alfe maybe the show would not have been such a disaster. CBS didn’t know what they had.

  136. Shaz says:

I suspected Three Rivers would be DOA when I first heard Carol Barbee was behind it. The show’s subsequent problems (reshot pilot, missing the Paley preview at the last minute, etc.) didn’t surprise me a bit. Maybe the biggest tell was the decision to add an ER (set and doctor character) and split the storytelling between organ donation and ER cases — a obvious sign that the premise of the show is inherently weak and too limiting to base an entire show around.

Out of the three medical dramas this season, I actually thought Trauma would be the best since it’s from the Friday Night Lights people and I lurve FNL. But I quit Trauma after the first episode although I’m thinking of checking it out again since some people here say it’s improved.

I think Mercy turned out to be the best of the three, but I still only watch it on and off, when noting else is on. It’s entertaining but I don’t find it compelling enough to be appointment TV.

  137. Dan says:

Im surprised Three Rivers lasted 8 episodes before being pulled, then again it would seem like a waste even for CBS to have to many unaired eps, unless a show was really bombing. I had a feeling it would get pulled after the switch with Cold Case. As for Trauma, I was suprised that NBC ordered 3 more eps, but it seems to make more sense to have 6 eps in the can instead of 3. They probably arent confident with midseason as well. Look for Trauma to likely air fridays out of Law & Order. As for Mercy, its doing OK but its still doubtful for a second season.

  138. Shaz says:

Dan, I agree that Good Wife would be a good fit thematically with Ghost Whisperer and Medium, but I still think it would be a bad move and tank in that timeslot.

These days, no one seems to be watching new shows on Friday. The only shows that are doing decently on Friday are the ones have been around for years and (I assume) have gained viewers dedicated enough to follow them anywhere.

  139. Joanne Schum says:

Hi, Reading everyone’s comments…It is so, so, so sad that many of you don’t feel this show should of ever been on TV. Some of the replies here, were nutty (excuse my name calling). Some of you must think you are top of the line writers, for TV shows, and Movies??? Have you done a show recently? I am not sure you would know how to write for an hour long show… Then we have some who want some crappy show on in it’s place. Do you all have any other hobbies, or activities, or children, or household planning to do? I watch Three Rivers, and then a couple of Create shows. I have a life. I don’t sit in front of the boob tube (sorry) my entire life. Go exercise, find some great recipes and make some good, nutritious meals.

As far as being reality(I hate those sbows, I watched 10 minutes of one, many years ago…. made up, planned garbaage, what a waste of electricity. Going back to “it is not realistic”. I think I mentioned that this is an hour show!! You cannot watch someone being listed, waiting, transplant, recovery in an hour! I am a double lung transplant recipient. 12 years ago I had this transplant. Thank goodness for organ donors and their families. Anyway, I was evaluated in March of 1995, I was listed 2 weeks later. I was told the wait was about 24 months, they told me I had about 24 months to live. My blood type is the most common (O+) and I am smallish (typical for Cystic Fibrosis folks). I will do another message to finish this…stay tuned

  140. Joanne Schum says:

Okay, so here I am waiting for lungs, on oxygen, barely lift my purse, etc. etc. I had to relocate 700 miles when they called me and told me I had about 3 months before I get my lungs. I moved in June of 1997 and I got my lungs on September 12, 1997. I waited 30 months. Then my recovery was tough and long. I got lungs from a young man much larger than I (they must match blood type and the size they match generally) So they had to do extra sewing and stapling. After 72 days in the hospital, I went to my apartment for more Physical Therapy and bronchoscopies, etc. Do you think they could show that in one hour? NO, HEAVENs NO. So it is unrealistic, so what. It does get people talking about being an organ donor though. There is no other show on TV that does that. AND REMEMBER YOU MAY NEED AN ORGAN, A LOVED ONE ,OR YOUR CHILD some day…. don’t you want to promote organ donation on TV, Radio, wherever you can… believe me, when it is your child…who needs an organ, you will be so happy that it comes along, but sometimes it does not… Write to the SAVE OUR SHOW CAMPAIGN…. this show is so important. Move it off of Sunday, away from Football..

    Joanne

  141. Holly says:

One more time: Opinions about this TV show and its ratings have absolutely NO CONNECTION to opinions about real-life organ transplants. It is just plain stupid to assume that recognizing that a TV show has horrendous ratings means the person doesn’t care about transplants. That’s like saying those who don’t like a given cop show are pro-anarchy or that not liking Raising the Bar means you hate the justice system and the Constitution.

  142. Shaz says:

“You cannot watch someone being listed, waiting, transplant, recovery in an hour!”

Have you actually watched any other medical dramas besides Three Rivers? The way you handle something like that is:

    1. Continuing storylines over several episodes. Three Rivers even did this with the Kuol storyline. They could have had more than one continuing storyline going.

    2. Find stories to tell about people during ONE of the phases in the donation/transplant timeline instead of trying to cover the entire process in an hour. As a bonus, this would have actually expanded the range of stories they could tell because the plots wouldn’t be limited to extremely predictable “donor dies/transplant patient arrives/doctors do transplant/everyone lives happily ever after” sequence of events every single episode. And another bonus, delving more deeply into specific aspects of organ donation and transplants instead of glossing over the process (in an overly utopian way) would have been far more educational.

No one wants Three Rivers to be replaced by a crappy show. Quite the opposite. People want Three Rivers to go away so that a better show will have an opportunity to take its place.

And, Joanne, considering that your posts on this thread have been longer and more plentiful than anyone else’s perhaps you need to find some more hobbies.

  143. Joanne Schum says:

    Shaz,

Thanks for noticing my typing skills.

    What do you type WPM?

I am at 93 wpm… I type fast, so I can get on to cooking and doing my volunteering etc.. and living, not watching TV.

Thank goodness for great lungs and fast typing, in my case.

  144. Shaz says:

I see that you can’t actually respond to the on-topic content of my posts so you have to resort to personal slights. Classy.

  145. Shaz says:

“It does get people talking about being an organ donor though. There is no other show on TV that does that.”

Grey’s Anatomy has done TONS of organ donation stories. In fact, one of the most popular and beloved storylines the show has ever done — the season-long Denny/Izzy arc — was about a man who needed a heart transplant.

    uh….Shaz….
You personalized first, my dear: “And, Joanne, considering that your posts on this thread have been longer and more plentiful than anyone else’s perhaps you need to find some more hobbies.”

    Joanne’s # of posts: 8
    Shaz’s # of posts: 8

And I would venture to say both pretty close in length, so get a clue.

As an organ donor for most of my adult life, I agree with Holly – panning a TV show which is badly written and just a tad too ambitious despite a lofty goal, is not an indictment of, or lack of support for organ donation.

  147. hookedonmick says:

@Dan I agree with you about it might have or not done better following NCIS LA….for me yes because I don’t watch AR so I would only turn on to CBS for 3R. I do believe that a new show needs a strong lead in. But it wasn’t only the time slot that hurt this show. It was a lot of things rolled into one. It is a shame though because I think it was starting to make improvements. More character development and more continuation with stories. When they retooled the pilot they should have waited until mid season to air. JMO…..

@Janice not all of us are the way you see Alex fans. It is a shame that people have to lump us all together but I guess that is what makes the world go round. Each actor in Hollywood has crazy fans and sane fans. Some of us have a life and use tv as our escape from single parenthood and homework.

  148. Shaz says:

Cook, I’ve got a clue. I keep my posts on the topic of the TV show itself and I refrain from calling people that don’t agree with me losers who need to find a life.

  149. Shaz says:

I’d say Joanne made it personal first:
“Some of the replies here, were nutty (excuse my name calling). Go exercise, find some great recipes and make some good, nutritious meals.”

  150. cook says:

You dear were the first to diss by name.
    Get a clue.

She’s an organ recipient. Give her a break.
    And just…please…pontificate on…

  151. Shaz says:

I’ll give you that. I named her first. But that was only because I was directly responding in kind (pot, kettle, etc.) to the rather condescending post she made.

  152. Shaz says:

BTW, cook, I meant to ask you: where/when did Carol Barbee admit that the writing on the 3R pilot was heavy handed, etc.? I’d be interested to see what specifically she had to say.

  153. Emerald says:

Hey, Realistic Expecations, Riff Rafferty and others

Stop dissin’ on us Moonlight Fans. Don’t you know we’re the only reason the Moonlight DVD was released (nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that TPTB might have wanted to recoup some of the money they lose through advertisers pulling out when the show failed to hit it’s target market), and a Moonlight Movie (with TEN…count them TEN!!! sequels planned) is already in the works. Give us enough time and we’ll have a complete, mint condition copy of Tod Browning’s ‘London After Midnight’ for you as well.

    *snerk*

  154. MistyAnn says:

CBS has a reputation for not giving shows a chance. In the time I watched Three Rivers their time slot was always being interrupted because of The Amazing Race. Bye-Bye CBS now I have no reason to watch you.

  155. Holly says:

Did you know that over the last 10 years, nearly half (46%) of dramas that premiered on CBS got a second season? That’s significantly better than any other network (29% on ABC, a mere 26% on FOX, and 31% on NBC).

  156. Holly says:

Oops, forgot to cite my source (because I don’t do that much math)

Those numbers are from The Futon Critic’s “10 Things You Need To Know About The New Season”

    http://www.thefutoncritic.com/rant.aspx?id=20091001_10things

  157. Dan says:

Well its seems odd that Three Rivers being pulled is considered a “hiatus”. Generally, anytime CBS pulls a drama its cancelled, but with this series, its not officially cancelled. I think CBS may actually burn this one off on saturdays. They never do it, but if they kept this one on long enough to air more than half of their eps, they could burn the extra 5 off.

  158. shar says:

I loved this shows cast. ALL of them.

  159. Kim says:

I’m bummed…I happened to like Three Rivers…never got into Cold Case…

  160. Tony says:

Three Rivers is a quality show. It has failed because of it’s night and time slot. You could never count on it to be played on time because the football games would go late, so I bet people gave up on it since most people go to bed early on Sundays. That is CBS’ falt, not the shows

  161. Scott says:

I guess I’m in the minority but I REALLY LOVED this show. I thought the episode with the bus crash was fanntastic. I actually never heard of Moonlight before reading this discussion, so I didn’t watch 3R for that reason. I also thought Jericho was good too and wish it had a chance to come to a conclusion. Anyway, another mistake by CBS IMO.

  162. crystalabell says:

I am very sad to see Three Rivers pass into the land of the dead. I thought that all the actors were excellent but the show needed time to find its balance. The themes were great and I believe that many in its 7 million strong audience have been educated about the life- giving possiblities of organ donation. I can honestly say that this show and these actors have convinced me to sign a donation card. The stories showed me that my organs can give life.

  163. John says:

It is really surprising to see many negative comments about Three Rivers and Cold Case among these posts. These are two of the best shows on T.V. now. One commenter even lauded the sleezy trash Desperate Housewives. If that person is an indicator of our society as a whole, yuck!

  164. john says:

My wife really enjoyed three rivers as a break from all of the usual crime shows on CBS. We watch all of them as well. But something different lilke 3 rivers is nice too. We also thought the cast was good and we were strating to connect with the staff at 2 rivers. It’s really hard to get inerested in a new show and later find most of them always get cancelled.

  165. jaime says:

I’m not sure where or what the problem is, but I am pretty much disgusted with the CBS network. Beginning with Without a Trace, then Moonlight, Flashpoint, Eleventh Hour, and now Three Rivers … whomever is being polled for these ratings is NOT representative of the population! The majority of various network shows are ridiculous reality shows. I HATE them. I am bordering on not watching TV at all (or perhaps moving to Canada). I really hope the shows I’ve mentioned above come out with DVDs, even if they are not complete. As soon as Moonlight came out I bought it. There are only a few shows left worth watching – not sure how much longer they have since they’re there one week and gone the next!
And what is it with don? Why do you want shows to fail? Like Cold Case and Numb3rs? There’s already too many stupid shows on tv. Can anyone say VARIETY?!
