A 3.3 is what TBBT was getting for regular episodes in its first season, so it’s pretty amazing that it got it for a rerun!

I wouldn’t say notably. Look at it’s competition. All reruns. I’m sure both Heroes and Trauma would have boosted numbers from their season averages against those shows. How much, I can’t say.

Well that Christmas episode of BBT from last year was good.

I’m not surprised to see that TBBT did so well last night, especially since they re-aired last year’s Christmas episode which was one of the best of the season…the ending with that awkward Penny/Sheldon hug is fabulous!

Interesting that Sing Off is doing so well…but it really does make the fall NBC line up look that much worse. Not sure what will happen with Chuck…could break out like BBT, hold steady with last year’s average, or slump. I think it will probably be the middle one and if that comes to pass, then a Season 4 looks possible.

One thing that surprised me was the lack of actual Christmas themed specials this week…only ABC made a go of it with Charlie Brown. But then, looking at those ratings it’s not like that was a hugely successful choice.

Reruns and mediocre reality TV. IMHO, anyone who was watching broadcast TV last night really needs to get a hobby. I opted for the Giants-Redskins game on ESPN, but gave up on that by halftime. UUUUUUUUUggglllyyy.

As an aside, those CW #s are some of the worst I’ve ever seen for prime time broadcast programming!

The_Godfather, I disagree. It is definitely notable, not due to the competition, but due to its being the best performance for the network between 8p-10p in THREE MONTHS.

While Trauma and Heroes likely have fared better than average against reruns, particularly because of Trauma’s poor performance even against some reruns, I’m not so sure the combined Trauma/Heroes would’ve had the best combined 8p-10p average since September.

Yeah, House repeat was weak. House has little room for future growth, though current trend will keep it on the air for years.

Leno not up much with double repeats. Maybe it would slowly improve with a longer repeat season (say Summer) but I continue to think its repeats rating ceiling is only ~.5ish over new episodes.

What do you make of CBS repeats? Mothers slim lead over AoP repeats indicates that the new episode audience for Mother is devoted, such that they have to see the new episode when it airs, whereas most of AoP’s audience will watch whatever comedy CBS airs there.

Leno has been beating the ABC reruns handily lately, but not CBS. We’ll see if that continues (probably will) in the summer.

Bummer. That was my favortie episode of Castle. I was really hoping it would beat Leno last night. Sad……..

Like it or not, CBS’s crime shows always seem to perform well, even in repeats. Not sure why, since in this day and age there are so many other programming options if you don’t want to watch an “encore” episode of a show (the new fancy term for a ‘repeat’). Thus, I think the execs at ABC and NBC are happy enough when/if their shows come in second against CBS repeats.

House was repeating well until USA started running them all the time then the repeats lost demo numbers which is odd because NCIS has a similar cable disadvantage but gained network audience. Or maybe it was the switch to Mondays. Was House repeating this way when it was on Tuesdays?

I was upset by the move to Mondays when it happened but now I like it because it doesn’t overlap with anything else I watch.

In a few weeks I will have that 24 and Two and a Half Men/Big Bang dilemma. Last time I recorded 24 and saw some of the episodes. This time I might just watch 24 whenever and buy the dvd set since it comes out when the shows are over and then it will be summer when I have more time to watch since school will be out.

Wow Big Bang. Just a repeat of it gets the same numbers a New 30 Rock episode gets. Crazy Stuff lol

I think it helped that last night’s episode of Big Bang was arguably one of the most popular episodes.

How Jim Parsons didn’t win the Emmy for that line alone is why we all know awards shows are meaningless.

I am so happy for TBBT! This last episode was so much better than this year’s Christmas episode. This year’s episode was one juvenile, shallow sex joke after another. Very disappointing.

With reruns, especially during sweeps periods, when shows rerun about once every three weeks or so, do they play them in any particular order, or is it find episodes which they think will rerun well?

Sweeps is the time when shows are rarely in repeats, so I’m not sure what you’re referring to.

Ouch for the CW! Their rerun ratings really sucked. Smallville and The Vampire Diaries trounch them.

Robert, Trauma’s average is what, 1.7? Heroes is 2.4? That’s a half ratings point for Trauma and about the same for Heroes. You put both those shows up against repeats, and Trauma will get a 2.2/2.3, with Heroes getting another boost.

Has NBC just considered running TBBT repeats? It would do better than most of their own comedies. I am sure CBS would give them a great deal.

Godfather, you’re making up numbers. The only numbers we have suggest that Trauma wouldn’t go up anywhere near half a point against repeats. On 11/30 CBS was in repeats and Trauma went down. Now, granted, that’s not everything in repeats, but part of the competition was reduced, and Trauma went down, not up.

Against dual repeats Leno was barely above the 1.5 minimum. NBC thought it would do over 2.0 against a single repeat. This is a slow, agonizing death for a show that was supposed to change the TV landscape. Imagine what Leno would pull if ABC actually had decent programming at 10 last night?

Find My Family must be a truly dreadful show. ABC can’t stick with it for long.

But all Leno needs to do is a 1.5 rating to make NBC hundreds of millions of dollars a year!! I don’t think you can say for sure that Leno will be gone next fall.

He has enough clout and viewers that he will still be on MAJOR network TV somewhere.

NBC would die for something that performs the same as a repeat of the big bang theory

Neal, there is no point in trying to convince some people that Leno isn’t going anywhere. I’m willing to bet that some will believe that Leno wont be back next season even when the upfronts come in May and it’s announced that he’s coming back. Some people are blinded by their dislike for the decision to air Leno at 10, that they can’t see that he’s profitable and isn’t going anywhere in the near future.

I sure would like to see a link to where you are getting the “hundreds of millions of dollars a year” profit that NBC is making from a 1.5 18-49 rating for Leno. I do seem to recall someone from NBC saying Leno would be profitable at that rating, but that hardly translates to hundreds of millions of dollars a year.

Tommy, plus don’t forget CSI is considered the most popular show of the past DECADE!! So it’s understandable if Leno loses to a CSI repeat especially considering Leno is on FIVE times a week and CSI only once.

I’m also looking forward to the announcement from NBC that Leno is being renewed.

I wouldn’t expect any boffo ratings for any program in the next two weeks, now that we are actually in the full holiday season. These last two weeks of December traditionally have the lowest TV viewership of the entire year, and that includes cable as well as network TV, since nearly all cable shows are reruns this time of year, with the exception of ESPN, who gets to run college basketball and the assorted college football bowl games like the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl.

Don’t get TBBT at all. It has a serious Ugly Betty vibe for me where it is really popular for a while but repetitivev trite plots drag it into the abyss.

No offense to TBBT fans but I consider myself a fairly geeky guy in the 18-29 demo thats suppose to be the fanbase of this show and NOONE I know likes the show and I have a ton of college friends. I don’t get where TBBT gets its viewers from.

TBBT pretty much has the same viewership that The Office gets, but I am a fan of The Office, and I hate TBBT. It’s premise is lame, and the characters seem the same in all episodes. CBS comedies aren’t as great to me. The closest good one would I have to say is Accidentally On Purpose, it’s sometimes funny, the characters are great, but the storyline seems to have been ignored in recent episodes, leading me to think that the writers seem to have shredded their show, so the show seems to be dying fast.

House repeats from seasons 1- 3 always do well; repeats from season 4 and 5 not so much. That’s because the quality of the first three seasons was so much better, they’re worth re-watching.

The CSI shows always do well in repeats because they are almost pure procedurals. You can parachute into any of them and it means just as much as if you’d been watching from the start.

Nice to see that Castle did reasonably well as a repeat, not that much lower than House and Lie to Me in spite of the time slot.

I don’t get where the viewership for BBT either. I myself is a big fan of the show. But I am super a geeky engineer. Watching it is quite related to my own misery. But I am so happy to see so many people like it.

Last year’s BBT Christmas episode is very good. This year, not so much. I hope they can keep it up, otherwise the popularity won’t last…
