As Countdown With Keith Olbermann Ratings Sink To Third Place In January, Has He Become An Easy Target?

That MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann would finish the month of January behind Fox News’ The O’Reilly Factor in the cable news target adults 25-54 ratings isn’t at all a surprise, but the fact that he finished third behind Headline News’ Nancy Grace is. Even CNN’s Campbell Brown wasn’t far behind him.

In November, 2008 Olbermann was neck and neck in the adults 25-54 demo with O’Reilly, but now that Olbermann’s ratings are down has he become an easy target of opportunity?

Daily Finance asks “Is America Getting Over Keith Olbermann?“.

The Daily Show’s John Stewart called him out in a mock “Special Commentary“.

Even MSNBC’s own Joe Scarborough called him reckless.

Take care going up the ladder indeed. It’s hell on the way back down.

Don’t forget Ben Affleck’s hilarious turn as Olbermann on SNL! He nailed it.

  • Jason

I’m not sick of him. He’s better than the other newscasters, IMO.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

Dylan, gotcha, but that was more than a year ago, while Olbermann was at or near his ratings peak. I wanted more recent examples.

  • john gabriel

he has a one-note charley show with a steady parade of mostly left-wing suckups. he hasn’t the guts to challenge the opposing side, face to face. his show with it’s predictable responses, might just as well be totally scripted.

  • btone31

C’mon Keith. You can’t lose to Nancy Grace, who needs to stop talking about the same thing everyday for a year (it seems).

  • Larsen

    Olberdouche a target? Perhaps.
I’d have to say that he’s been reduced more to a laughing stock.
It really appears that MSLSD is on a “scorched earth” policy with their PT commentary shows as the end seems nearer these days.

  • http://countermoon.org Brian Fahrlander

Have we ever seen news-crew ratings drop low enough to kill a show or network? If ever there was a good excuse for it, these times would be IT.

How long can MSNBC keep going if NBC already has a ‘news’ offering, and Microsoft feels strapped enough to cancel Microsoft Flight Simulator?

I’ll bet there’s no cool “cancel/renew” software that can be written for that, huh? Some places keep hemmoraging the money until they go bankrupt “to be the news service America trusts” or whatever…

  • Joan

He’s a disgusting freaking crazy man.
And, American’s are waking up turning more and more to FOX!

  • billyidle

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD!!!

  • Burn-E

Brian: Because MSNBC ad space can be used as make-goods for ads that fail on other NBC owned networks, because it is in most cable homes in the USA, and because it collects a carriage fee that probably covers all the news expenses regardless of ratings, there is no reason ever for GE to cancel MSNBC.

As long as the ratings allow it to fetch ten cents a month or so per subscriber that’s enough to keep them afloat. It could ultimately become such a joke that MSOs might be willing not even to pay THAT, but other cable channels have even lower viewership. Maybe if it started to run lower than CNBC but without the premium wealthy viewers.

If MSNBC were a company unto itself it may not be able to sustain its ratings, but handling make-goods for NBC makes it super profitable. It’s not going anywhere, much as on-air personalities’ behavior might make us wish for it to leave.

Did everyone see the Daily Show clip on this thread? Olbermann is indefensible and pathetic. Case closed.

  • Rich

I have noticed that since Nancy Grace has caught up and taken over second place, that KO has been attacking her in his show….what a loser he is!

  • Al

    @Joan

if fox was an actual news network maybe you’d be right. cable news is nothing more than adult cheer leading for republicans and democrats. fox will bash obama, msnbc will cheer obama… it’s a joke, not objective, and that’s why i dont watch it anymore.

  • btone31

I like CNN and MSNBC, but I prefer the local news(at least where I live) because there is no political agenda and the people voice their opinion, not the anchors.

  • sandra

no surprise, he’s a joke, disgusting, but like the old saying goes, what goes around, comes around, KARMA? your going down olbie, just can’t beat O’REILLY or FOX NEWS huh? people are sick of you!

  • Richard

I am as far to the left as–or further than–Mr. Olbermann, and I have been there longer, so my comment is not about his politics. I must say, however, that his tone of bombast, his approach of demean and ridicule his political targets, and his twisting of data to prove his points in a shamelessly self-important and autocratic manner have led me to stop watching the show altogether. I believe that such rhetoric and style of demeaning and ridiculing reduce credibility and exert a negative impact on general discourse. I agree with the President that “we can disagree without being disagreeable.” Mr. Olbermann is exceedingly disagreeable.

  • Mikey

Ubergirly is too stupid to realize that he IS the person he rants against everynight.

  • Draftpick2009

The fact that he calls everybody racist that disagrees with obama got me wanting to slap the shit out of this man!

  • Bob

Olbermann has the top show on MSNBC which is why he is being targeted, if his ratings fell below another show on MSNBC people would stop going after him and then go after the new person. Just look at how Fox viewers constantly attack his ratings, he as of now is at the very bottom of shows that could even possibly be canceled and yet every week people say “cancel him/his ratings suck.

Now if the lowest rated anchor on MSNBC was being targeted then the whole idea of low ratings equaling easy target might make more sense.

  • Bob

As Richard has pointed out, even those who hold left wing political views are embarrassed by Mr. Olbermann’s arrogance and distortion of facts. He is also correct that this kind of behavior removes credibility from those who hold viewpoints similar to Mr. Olbermann. As long as he remains on the air the only alternative honest liberals have open to them is to watch another network.

  • tammy

i have a freind who works for nbc… one of the few non socialist liberals that work there… he tells me so many stories. he said olbermaniac is getting fired… he’ll be gone by the end of the week or by next week. the ratings are so low that they can’t wait any longer

  • Randyaw

While I don’t watch MSNBC, I still ponder how stupid one must be to watch Fox and then how much further down the ladder they are to actually buy into it.

  • Steve In Danville, KY

I wonder if even ESPN would take him back. Honestly though, While I’ll never watch him again on MSNBC, his work in sports and on Sunday Night Football is very good.

Again while I think he is a joke on MSNBC I wish him the best and hope he stays as a sports guy, were all a forgiving lot Keith, but dude! The country is Center Right, Join us and help bring common sense back, it was soooooo good when there was a least some common sense in Government.

Maybe even FOX will hire you in the future HAHAHAHAHAHA!! Go FOX!!!!

As a very far leaning lefty. I like msnbc. It’s not mean and hateful or bigoted like fox with out the evangelical Christian backing.

  • Morning

Olbermann is fun to watch. I get a kick out of the clear bias here (as usual.) This television site is almost as bad as the Drudge Report in its cheerleading for Fox News and the Republican agenda (with daily ratings updates on cable channels but hardly ever a mention of how NBC News ratings alone reach twice as many people as the Fox News propaganda.)

No, Countdown is not going to be canceled – so take your hands out of your shorts and get back to reality.

While Fox News has good ratings as far as cable channels go, it is because it is the only channel old (average age 70+) white republicans watch to get their news (although it is not news, but rather talking points disguised as news meant to appeal to the lowest common denominator.) The middle and left spread their viewing out across dozens of news sources often changing every night, be it local, ABC, NBC, CBS, CBC BBC, PBS, etc.

Fox News rallies the troops around your standard lies and hate (be it death panels, Obama is not an American, Obama wants to turn Texas into the New German Socialist Republic, et at.) and those with an inclination to believe such off the wall rhetoric, suck it up with a straw.

Just look at the Obama, GOP “summit.” CNN and MSNBC ran with it until its conclusion. Fox saw the GOP was getting hammered, and decided to cut to its all radical right wing panel to bash the president while he was in the middle of a slam dunk! It was so sad, it was funny.

It just didn’t fit the narrative…

  • JC

I think it has more to do with calling people “racist, teabaggers, and tinfoil hatters” and calling senate candidates “supporters of violence against women” and that Mass voters are “racist” for voting Brown.

    @Morning

You really should click on the link to the LA Times article and read it.

I particularly like that the photos of Bill O’Reilly and Keith Olbermann are “roughly in proportion to the size of their audience”… That’s LOL funny!

And as Mr. GJG points out, look at the demos. I’ll put them here so you don’t have to scroll back to the top.

    For ages 25-54:

    O’Reilly: 983,000
    Olbermann: 263,000

Mr. O’Reilly beats Mr. Olbermann by 3.7:1 in the demo most targeted by advertisers.

  • val

Unrelated question. Why are the demos for news programmng 25-54 and not 18-49?

  • Morning

A good contrast would be to tune in to CNN, MSNBC or CSPAN2 right now. They are all running the historic conference between the President and the Democratic caucus.

Meanwhile Fox News runs counter programming and pretends it isn’t happening (beyond throwing in a occasional jab.)

  • Burn-E

Val: There just aren’t enough 18yo viewers watching news. However, even accounting for the higher average age overall, Fox still creams the other cable news channels combined (and multiplied!) in EVERY demo.

  • SPH

Morning, your last statement is incorrect, FoxNews is indeed showing the meeting with the Democrats.

  • Morning

Sorry SPH – just switched there now. Not on…

They are “keeping an eye on things” and pulling out the sound bites they like. They are not running it live like the other networks.

  • Morning

Still watching Fox News. Still not on.

Instead a report on Baghdad bombings…

  • DGL

Maybe Morning cause other than Liberals everybody else is sick of watching Obama lie. Every speech he gives isn’t life and death. And if it was so damn important to hear Mao-bama speak to his minions then all the broadcast networks would be airing it.

The reason also that Ms.NBC should be concerned is that while Olbermann gets the highest ratings on his network he is getting CRUSHED in his timeslot which by the way is the coveted 8 PM slot. When your getting your ass kicked by Nancy Grace your career is over.

I for one don’t want Olbermann fired or Ray Maddow because they are on they steal valuable airtime from people that could make a difference. As long as Ms.NBC has that totally loser lineup FOX will continue to get high ratings.

Lets not compare the Network news channels to cable either or will will have to talk about how sponge bob beats Couric and the rest on a daily basis.

  • Morning

    >Maybe Morning cause other than Liberals everybody else is sick of watching Obama lie.

Nope. That is not it. Fox News does not want to put itself in a position where the message of the day is counter to its slant and agenda. They got burned with the GOP Q&A (although they cut it short before too much damage was done) and know it is a really bad idea to let the President run unedited because of his oratory skills.

Fox News does not want to give the viewers a chance to decide on their own. Rather, they will tell the viewers what to think later about the conference and use clips and sound bites that best fit the narrative they are trying to sell.

There is no real excuse as a 24 hour news organization NOT to run this live, unless of course they don’t want you to see it…

  • Anonymous

    LOL @ Morning

Thanks for that article – too bad its TWO years old……

  • Morning

    >Thanks for that article – too bad its TWO years old……

  • http://www.PoliticalCircusBlog.com PoliticalCircusBlog.com

The only way Olbermann can get his ratings up if Jay Leno gets Arianna Huffington to marry Keith on late nite TV. Now there’s something to look forward to. Oh, Rachel Maddow can be the best???

  • DGL

Morning how can you speak for everyone else that is my job! Your job is to drink kool aid and follow Obama over the cliff with the rest of the Dims. In one year the Democrats have GAINED 1 seat in the Senate (Frankin was certified 6 months after the election, Specter switched parties – Brown took Kennedy’s seat.)

You must be using the Fox News abacus for your calculations, lol.

Anyway, I guess I’ll let you fine folk continue with circle jerk of ideas and sophomoric back patting, unabated.

  • betty

On his way to the WoodShed, OlberMan told The Suits that he has No Idea why his Ratings are Free-Falling now what the Eff he can do to Boost them.

  • Tim

I think Bush’s leaving office really hurt Keith. Back then he had legitimate things on the right to critisize. Add that onto the fact that his ratings have been slipping, and he’s been reaching for every little thing he can find, then blowing it out of proportion and going overboard with his comments. As someone who used to watch him semi regularly, even I find his behavior grating to watch. He’s stooped to the level of behavior that he has for so long criticized at Fox (deservedly so), which just makes the whole thing ironic to me.

  • Edward

Ignoring all the stupid right wing people commenting… the obvious reason Keith isn’t doing so well… is because Obama won the election. Liberals just don’t need to tune in as much because they have a president they trust (whether that trust is warranted is another story). Keith even joked about this very same thing during the election when he said that McCain winning would be better for him financially but as a citizen he didn’t want that to happen.

On the other side… Fox news has been rising and rising ever since Obama took office. Why? Because just about every single right wing loon is glued to Fix News waiting for the black guy to ban the colour white or have tea with Osama Bin Laden.

America is messed up. Keith should move to another country. Obama is not going to save America and Nationalism is evil… go work for Al Jazeera like Frost. Al Jazeera is a far better network than CNN/Fox/and that other one put together.

  • Mike

Olbermann has been going downhill for a LONG time and he finally hit rock bottom (or what I suspect is the lowest he could go) with his on-air implosion during the week of the Massachusetts special election.

His claim that Scott Brown is a “irresponsible, homophobic, racist, reactionary, ex-nude model, teabagging supporter of violence against woman and against politicians with whom he disagrees” and then defending his stance on the following 2 nights and his belief that Massachusetts voters must all be racist because they didn’t vote for the candidate Obama supported would have been enough to show he’s out of his mind. But he follows that up later in the week with a “Special Education Comment” about the Supreme Court decision that even Glenn Beck would call a far fetched conspiracy theory.

And the problem isn’t just Keith’s idiocy every night, it’s that all of his guests have to agree with it or they don’t get on air. I find Howard Fineman, for example, skews farther to the left in his appearances on Countdown than he does would in other media I’ve seen him on. When I saw the blatantly bias racism question being asked to Howard, I expected him to laugh in Keith’s face and dismiss it as a liberal smear, but instead he beats around the bush and gives it some merit. It was almost like he was afraid to say “No Keith, you’re completely wrong and the whole audience is dumber for listening to that question.”

  • PTM

Perhaps we are being too critical but we won’t want Football Night in America pre or half time because Olbermann is on the program. He is so sleazy that we just can’t watch the show.
He has had several other failures and, without the correct liscense, Olbermann strikes to be on the verge of a breakdown.

If you want to understand why O’Reilly is so successful look at his guests this week. He disagrees with many but does not degrade them.

One of the things we can thank PMSNBC and CNN is making one of the most vulgar and insulting words part of the common language. One year ago probably 90% of the people had never heard the vulgar meaning of the words TEABAGGERS or TEABAGGING. Thanks to Overbite, Mad Cow, Tingley Leg, and 360 Viewers of CNN, and their almost daily use of the word, it’s known by 90% now. THANKS PMSNBC and CNN. I think it’s one reason people stopped watching, when “NEWS PEOPLE” would use a word that is that low-class, vulgar, and crude.

I find it funny that so many people refer to MSNBC as a woman, is that suppose to be an insult of some kind? And whats with all these childish names people are using to refer to the MSNBC hosts, is this an attempt to be clever or did you just pick it up somewhere else?

If no one is watching MSNBC why even waste your time hating it so much. Every time you give it attention you create the possibility that people might just start watching it.

  • Bob

Oh and as for teabagging, I find it amazing that channels no one watches caused 90% of the population to learn a new word, now thats powerful media.

  • Stephen

What really bothers me is how Olbermann thinks of himself as a modern day Edward R. Murrow. I just can’t wait to say, “Goodbye and good riddance” to him and Countdown!

  • RUKidding?

Olbermann’s show is not news. It’s commentary. Beck, O’Reilly, and Hannity also have commentary shows. They offer opinion, not news.

Olbermann, however, is a deluded lunatic. His opinions are based on emotion, and his own twisted sense of reality. Fewer and fewer people have patience for his personal brand of insanity.

  • mikeeee

I have a hard time believeing that 263 people actually watch Olbermann.

Fox news played the clips from MSNBC that is why 90% of the population is using it. Now thats powerful media with ratings to match.

Wrong. Keith Olbermann’s ratings was falling way behind even when Bush was in office. His demo left him a year before Obama took office. Probaly people do not want to hear a pontificating ass that thinks he knows better than anyone that does not agree with him. I even watched him servaral times before and he is annoying. Having diversity on his show may help. It has worked for O’Riely and Hannity.

That statement applies to Beck, O’Reilly, and Hannity as well, people need to understand they all warp reality to fit what they think. Just because you agree with those people doesn’t mean they aren’t deluded, it just means you share the same delusion.

“As Countdown With Keith Olbermann Ratings Sink To Third Place In January, Has He Become An Easy Target?”

Easy target, maybe, for people who follow the O’Reilly vs Olbermann ratings saga. But many on the left will see the need to tag Olbermann as a lunatic. It’s either that or their side may be identified with him and his views. Jon Stewart’s video is getting a lot of play; he’ll be on the O’Reilly Factor tonight. Interesting to see if he says anything about the bit and reactions to it, and will the Daily Show get any bump in ratings?

  • Philip Minter

To me CNN, Fox, and MSNBC appear to be little more than propaganda channels. For real news I either use the internet or watch the BBC or CBC.
I used to be a big Keith Olberman fan. Those days are long gone. He’s become very arrogant and is so verbose I can’t even stand to listen him, like get to the point already. His commentary is full of, not sure of the term, fallacies of logical argument. I think the worst part of his show is ‘the worst person in the world’ segment. With all the real life horror stories in the world that people like Bill O’Reilly or Glen Beck make the list is really straining it. It’s so juvenile….’I hate you, you’re the worst person in the world!’ What’s next he stamps his foot and sticks out his tongue?

As you might know, reteaparty.com had a headline ‘Teabag the Fools in D.C. on tax day.’ Thus the verb to teabag was invented by the teabaggers themselves, and the correspondent who put it on TV was a Griff Jenkins of Fox News.

Of course, if you only watch Fox News, you probably wouldn’t know that…

  • tony

the truley sad part of this entire msnbc saga is that they are owned by a company that is on the public dole….WELFARE! Our tax dollars are being used to pay for the trash they put on every day. My son was sick yesterday, so I stayed home w/ him. I watched msnbc all day, i just couln’t stop. It was the biggest pile of lies i have ever witnessed. I watched all day, and saw only one person w/ an opposing view. everyone else just came on and lied, and were encouraged to do so. They need to pay back the billions they took from us, and just go away…..all of them.

Wolfster38, I didn’t use the word “colour”, I quoted that from Edward.

  • billyidle

I seem to remember that during the last Olympic coverage by NBC that some of it spilled over to MSNBC – does anyone know what the plans are this year?

  • Morning

“Edwards and Morning, I do believe Pew Research”

The reason they don’t do the 18-49 demo for cable news is because it skews so darn old.

That aside, I don’t doubt the Pew numbers. The numbers reflect that old people, no matter their party affiliation are attracted to Fox and their conservative brand (and for those that say, “but, but…look at the other demos – I did and they amounted to such a small percentage of the populace as a whole, it could be considered a rounding error…)

The generation that will run this country in 20 years, get their news from the internet (and maybe Jon Stewart.) The vast, vast majority of people get their news from sources other that Fox News (i.e. 98% of people.)

  • Luckyjoe

Edward said, “@demonjoe… did you just say fox news has balance… ROFL. you just lost any and all credibility.”
Edward, who made you King of Credibility? Really. I want to know.
See, all your kind can do is try to act superior. Make yourself feel important. So you make yourself important in the small tilted world you have created for yourself. You make yourself “Edward, Kind of Credibility!”
If someone likes Fox News, well, King Eward has ruled, “You have lost all credibility!”
Guess what “King” Edward? No one cares what you think. You may be king in your own little world, but here in the real world, you’re just another person with an opinion.
So go ahead, rule that all us FNC viewers have no credibility. We don’t care what you think. Honestly, your posts are better than any joke we know & makes us all laugh. You’re king of a kingdom of one. But thanks for the laughs!

  • Morning

    >If someone likes Fox News, well, King Eward has ruled, “You have lost all credibility!”

I don’t think you lose all credibility if you like Fox News. Just if you actually think it is fair and balanced.

I’m not saying the other cable news organizations are fair and balanced, just that Fox News doesn’t even try to hide the fact that they are the PR arm of the Republican party (and MSNBC has the same credibility issue on the other side of the coin.)

So enjoy Fox News as long as you know what it is and you like it, I see nothing wrong with that.

What bothers me, is people that ACTUALLY BELIEVE Fox News is some sort of journalistic Everest that tries to tell only the straight news and fairly caters to people of all political ideologies. That’s just not true. Not even close to true. Fox News is a conservative news channel with a conservative slant (Which is why they passed on the historic Democratic Q&A with the president today.) The majority of their daily news stories focus on Republican talking points (i.e TERRORIST ATTACK IMMINENT RIGHT NOW, WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!) soft porn (hey, as I guy I don’t mind the pandering, but see it for what it is) and then opinion pundits who run fear mongering (WILL US BECOME THE NEW RUSSIA?) Republican hit pieces on a nightly basis…

So I guess my point is…if you know what Fox News is and like it, fine. I personally feel the same way about MSNBC (but unlike most Fox News viewers I probably pull in my news across 100 different sources everyday.) Just don’t stand there and say with a straight face that Fox is actually operating on an even keel. Have some dignity. Please.

  • igotid88

why would they get rid of the highest rated performer. he has more competition than fixed news. the tiger woods scandal helped nancy grace. we still need voices like his to go against the likes of o’reily and beck.

  • Luckyjoe

Have you seen the ratings for last night? I can say with dignity that Not only is Fox News “actually operating on an even keel”, it’s the only place for fair & balanced news for a majority of Americans. The numbers just don’t lie.

lol @ “English as in UK” … colour is English. if you want to drop letters that’s your business.

@luckyjoe There’s no point to responding to any of the points you made since you don’t even understand the simple sentence you quoted. Read it again.

@demonjoe Fortunately, I’m not an American so I don’t really know what koolaid you’re talking about.

So tomorrow morning or the next day… when you switch on your tv and put it to fox news… and you giggle while the morning hosts make little faces when they’re talking about Obama, or they bring on someone to tell you why you’re not a good Christian if you don’t support Israel 100%, or when they bring on some other wackadoo to talk about the evil that is Iran… just know… you are responsible for the consequences :) Every time you ignore that feeling (those of you who can feel it anyway) that says “this is wrong”… you are responsible. “My fellow Americans…”

  • tony

That demographic doesn’t really matter because his ratings overall are pretty good. He regulary has over a million viewers which is great for msnbc ratings.

  • Luckyjoe

Edward. I understood your post perfectly. I don’t need to read your idiotic post again. See, the reason you won’t respond is simple. I’m right. You can not dispute me. Again, “King” Edward has ruled a non believer stupid. “King” Edward thinks a FNC viewer can’t understand his simple little post. I understand you perfectly. And I still laugh at your idiotic posts. In your narrow mind you may be king of a kingdom of one. But here in the real world we see you for what you really are. The court fool. • savas

I have Comcast basic cable so I used to watch MSNBC on clear QAM until Comcast started scrambling it. My guess is that lots of people can’t watch Countdown any more unless they pay for digital programming. FoxNews is still available though on basic cable.

  • SPH

Morning, I had their website on and it had a link to watch it live, I watched it live. There were no clips.

  • Morning

    “The numbers just don’t lie.”

Actually, they do. Fox News is a niche channel, not mainstream (the same goes for the other cable news channels.)

Only about 1% of the population is watching at any given time. While the break down shows what seems like even splits among party affiliation you have to understand that party affiliation is NOT equal. So what it boils down to is that the lion’s share of Fox News ratings come from the South, Republicans and older Americans.

On the other side of the coin, 25 Million Americans get their news daily from ABC, NBC and CBS evening broadcasts.

Cable news has become something people watch to see their team win. You watch Fox if you want to hear Republican talking points. You watch MSNBC if you want to hear Democratic talking points. And you flip to CNN if there is breaking news.

Just because a channel has high ratings says nothing of its integrity. The History Channel used to only have shows about history. Great documentaries and I was always tuning in. Now, it is mostly programs about asteroids hitting earth and Nostradamus, not to mention worthless reality shows about people driving trucks in Canada and loggers – which have nothing to do with history. Guess what? Their ratings are going through the roof! Why? Most Americans don’t care about the history of the Roman Empire, but they love drama!

Fox News takes advantage of this best with their talking heads and that is why they rate so well. It is not about the news, it is about drama, conflict and cheering on the home team…

  • Morning

SPH – What part of did not air it is confusing you? haha. They did not air it. Putting it on their website is NOT airing it.

  • Morning

Might as well throw in one final point.

CNN dominates the web news business (although MSNBC and FOX are slowly pulling share.) I expect to see a huge spike at CNN for January with the Haiti disaster, being there is no question they had the most comprehensive coverage (by leaps and bounds.)

We need to remember that while older generations are the primary cable news watchers, more and more Americans watch CNN online, or on their phone. The dynamics are changing and it is hard to calculate a given networks true reach by just looking at nightly ratings and overall website traffic.

@luckyjoe I said read the sentence again, not the post. And you’re right.. just because you’re too stupid to communicate effectively in English on a blog does not mean that all FNC viewers are the same… but probably a good deal are.

And what’s this real world you speak of? Is it filled with REAL Americans? rofl. Be quiet before you hurt your brain.

The fact is people think KO is insane and angry and people don’t want to watch him. The argument that “KO’s ratings are so bad because Obama won the election” doesn’t hold up.

Rush Limbaugh (who I also don’t like) was huge during the Clinton years, but didn’t hemorrhage listeners when GWB was elected (twice) the way KO has. People kept listening to Rush, even though his people were in charge. (Now go ahead and make the argument about how Right Wingers are a bunch of uneducated lemmings — I don’t buy it one bit).

It has less to do with who’s in the WH than KO himself.

  • Demonjoe

Morning, I agree with you on the history channel. My dad has it on all the time and I only see a few seconds of it, and almost everytime it is end of the world related, usually involving 2012. I swear they try to associate EVERYTHING with 2012.

  • Luckyjoe

Wow! Now “King” Edward has ruled that I’m stupid. “King” Edward said I can’t communicate in english.
“King” Edward has nothing to fall back on in his tilted small world. All he has is personal attacks…as usual.
“King” Edward, I don’t need to read your spew again. Every time I try, my IQ drops. And if it drops any more I’ll be watching Olbermann along with the small minded individuals. And the kingdon of Edward is already overpopulated with just one person. A fool. And that’s just enough.
Thank you for the laughs though. Keep em coming! You do make a great fool. Best yet!

  • Marcusillinois

Sorry about that, hit send instead of tab.

In reading the article that was suggested by Morning, it appears all networks are trending towards older viewership. However, I wondered if the study might be biased. It simply is not based upon real numbers that are posted on this site, every day.

  • Dbart

I know this is a late response, but I had to comment on “Morning’s” objection to Fox News covering a bombing in Baghdad as opposed to a political meeting where the President is speaking with members of his own party. Don’t we still have an interest in Iraq succeeding? I think a bombing is far more interesting than hearting the same political talking points over and over and over and over and over…

Plus, haven’t you ever heard – If it bleeds, it leads.

Here’s an interesting excerpt from a biography about Kieth.

“But despite his success and popularity with viewers, Olbermann left ESPN in 1997 under difficult circumstances. As his ratings grew, so too did his ego. He clashed with co-workers and network management. In 2004, Olbermann published an article in the online magazine Salon.com admitting that his problems at ESPN (and other places he worked) stemmed from his own insecurities and impulse control. ESPN hired him back on a part-time basis to join Patrick on his popular radio show, but banned him from the network’s offices. Management also excluded Olbermann from the guest lineup of its 25th Anniversary “SportsCenter” Reunion Week. It was not the first time Olbermann’s brash personality had angered the powers that be, and it would not be the last.

After ESPN, Olbermann bounced between MSNBC and Fox Sports Net in various show formats, but again he battled management over issues of content and control. At “The Big Show” (MSNBC, 1997) Olbermann grew frustrated that he spent most of his time covering the Monica Lewinsky scandal. He bolted after just one season to anchor and executive produce “The Keith Olbermann Evening News” (FSN, 1998), which, despite its grand-sounding name, was just a “SportsCenter” clone. Without Patrick sitting across the desk from Olbermann, the show lacked chemistry and struggled to find an audience. Olbermann also chafed at working at News Corp-owned Fox, whose conservative chairman Rupert Murdoch stood at the opposite end of the political spectrum from Olbermann.”

I didn’t realize his last stop before MSNBC was FOX.

My sons are mystified at how an individual can be so ANGRY and VILE all the time. I simply tell them, he’s a Democrat. I tell my 2 boys — if you work hard in life, you will be rewarded financially. If you are LAZY and a bum, you will be hurting financially. Republicans reward hard work – Democrats penalize hard work. Republicans offer tax breaks for hard working Americans. Democrats raise taxes on hard working Americans to support their lazy democratic work ethic in this country. the news and this site is designed to hate towards the obama not because it its policy but because his race. We have tolerated racist news casters for decades and nothing seems to get done. The people in the united states are not all caucasian. I am an african american who enjoys keith, why because he not only shows us the other side of the Republicans. He has opened the eyes of many people to vote. Your website consistently allows people to show their racist views, no matter what station. Fox needs to be removed permantly due to the fact, the racist are there in full force.

This particular blog has NOTHING at all to do with race.. It has to do w/ a CREEP and what he represents – DEMOCRATS – who tend to hide behind political issues such as WAR and RACE. • T Richardson

We need more newscasters like Keith Olbermann who thinks out the issues and presents them intelligently. We are in a day and age where the right wing has taken over most of the media. The news is now about popularity and not about facts. At least Mr. Olbermann presents another side and is not fabricating what people have said. He is at least offering a sane analysis of what is happening in the world.

  • Demonjoe

The gov’t supplied several “developers”.. OMG – what a joke… BUSINESS is what makes this world go round’ NOT Government. The Banks (BUSINESS) caused a major recession, unfortunately when George Bush was at the helm. That problem has been resloved by the Banks (BUSINESS) tightening up the qualifications on loans. NOW, Government is exploiting that past issue and trying to SOCIALIZE our country.. Obama is spending like a IDIOT. He has NO clue what he is doing.. None whatsoever. Allow Business to pull this country back into shape NOT the IDIOCRACY in a Socialized government where hard working tax payers need to pay for the lazy bum democrats out there..

I used to watch Olbermann because I like to subject myself to opposing viewpoints to make sure I can support my own. Olbermann is so full of hate, bias and unwillingness to give credit to anyone that is a little to the right of his leftist ideology I gave up on him. Plus all he does is bring guests on the show that drink the same koolaid. At least O’Reilly and Hannity are willing to subject themselves to people with very different points of view and let the audience decide. Olbermann needs to go back to sports where he is actually pretty good.
