Scoreboard ABC CBS FOX NBC Uni CW
Adults 18-49: Rating/Share 5.3/14 4.3/11 2.3/6 2.1/6 1.6/4 0.7/2
Adults 18-34: Rating/Share 4.9/14 3.1/9 1.8/5 1.6/5 1.7/5 0.9/2
Total Viewers (million) 14.75 12.79 7.63 7.38 3.99 1.66

ABC dominated the night with two hours of The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love followed by an “After The Final Rose” special.   The show completely dominated with women, posting ratings higher than an 8.0 with both women 18-49 and women 18-34 between 9:30-10:30p.  Showing strength,  The Bachelor completed its most-watched season since 2003.

CBS was second with a strong performance out of its two hour comedy block.  The Big Bang Theory was just off from its record numbers for its last new episode (down only 2%).  Two and a Half Men viewers definitely aren’t deterred by Charlie Sheen’s personal life.  With a 3.5 rating for adults 18-49, the season premiere of Rules of Engagement was just a tick ahead of the last original airing of Accidentally on Purpose.

NBC quickly returned to fourth place following the Olympics, but Chuck bounced back to a 2.4 rating in adults 18-49 and the 10pm results for Law & Order (2.1 rating with adults 18-49) were 31% higher than the average for The Jay Leno Show at 10pm.

The fall off for 24 lingered beyond the Olympics.  Up against The Bachelor finale, and with a repeat of Life Unexpected leading into an original episode instead of a new episode of One Tree Hill, Life Unexpected was down a bit.

Here are the results for the late night wars in Jay Leno’s return to The Tonight Show

Details:

Time Net Show 18-49 Rating/Shr Viewers (Millons)
8:00 ABC The Bachelor: On The Wings of Love (Finale) 4.9/13 14.29

Definitions:

*Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Wow! I thought Chuck would fall, and it went up. If the episodes improve as the year goes on and ratings follow, it’s a definite renew. The L&O numbers were great too. Seems like this spells the end of Heroes.

  • Zach

    Woo chuck!

  • Greg Chenoweth

Even though they are back to fourth place, Law & Order did better than the last few Jay Leno shows.

  • Jake

I’m sad about Life Unexpected ratings. The show deserves so much better.

  • andy

Does The Bachelor get better demo #s than Dancing W/The Stars?

  • Dustin

    go team Bartowski!

  • Madi

Why does PI Feedback list a 2.5/7 rating for Chuck?

  • Heath

    Yes!!! Way to go Chuck!!!

  • melbye

At least Chuck is consistent, but ouch at 24. It seems that people are getting tired of the show

  • http://qinrawks.blogspot.com Weiqin

WELL a 2.4 for Chuck. Last night’s episode was good… And from what I hear, the next 3 are set to be better. Let’s hope this sets a continuing rising trend for Chuck and that the 2.2 3 weeks before was an anomaly. The lowest it’ll ever get this season.

  • ken

I’m going to guess the same rounding difference as earlier this winter as Berman has Chuck at 6.70 million and 2.5 demo. Law & Order numbers at 9 not all that different from Trauma or Heroes (a bit better than one a bit worse than the other) and somewhat better than Leno at 10 (but not hugely so).

  • The_GodfatherSJP

Ummm, Marc Berman has Chuck at a 2.5 not a 2.4.

Practically the same either way, and I personally don’t care, just beware of Chuck fans…

Still, with a 2.4/2.5, this show is fine for next season.

  • matt

plus, next week’s Chuck is supposedly the best everr

  • Bob

Good to see Chuck rebound a bit. Hopefully as long as it can hold steady in that 2.4 range it will warrant a re-up from NBC.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

Madi, Godfather, unknown where Berman/PI Feedback got the 2.5 number for Chuck. He may have done his own averaging. Our source averaged it to a 2.4, which I trust. The final numbers will matter most anyway.

  • Irvin

Even though I’m not a fan of Accidentally on Purpose, I’m happy Rules of Engagement tanked!! Yeah it tanked, it was a series premiere; I think it’ll settle at 3.1 – 3.3 in the demo and that’s the same as AoP hehe!

  • David4

Ignore my L&O comment. I misread the numbers. Still think Heroes is done.

  • http://blog.tulli.com JT

Chuck, highest rated NBC show for the night. Can’t be a bad thing, can it? Hopefully the upward momentum continues.

Kindly comment the half hour break outs when they are available, please?

  • Doug

Last season for 24, for those numbers. Competition was heavy, yes, but the show used to be able to hold up. And yes, The Bachelor outranked recent editions of DWTS in demos. This show really does have 9 lives.

  • Patrick J. Murphy

Well, could have been worse for Chuck. I would have hoped a slight improvement with House in reruns, but I will certainly take not having a drop after the two-week hiatus. Now it will be up to next week’s episode to see if it can be maintained.

I wonder how CBS feels about Rules of Engagement holding the HIMYM audience better than Accidentally on Purpose. Might be the death knell for AoP, unless it matches up well with Old Christine.

  • David

Though keep in mind House was a rerun last night.

  • http://twitter.com/adrian_e Acey

Wow. VERY NICE 2.5 Men beating ABC’s finale, and Big Bang still massive. Lux wasn’t on in Chicago in favor of basketball so I’ll be waiting till Wednesday to watch that. This is the start of what promises to be a very nice week for ABC, and back to old ways of sucking for NBC. Parenthood tonight is their real test.

I didn’t watch anything last night, it’s all built up on my DVR. Damn midterms!

  • Ambaryerno

    Weiqin,

We really need to see next week when House is back as a new episode (although I’m still unconvinced there’s THAT much audience overlap) but I’ve been saying the 2.2 for 3×07 was a Superbowl-induced anomaly all along. Mask probably would have been a 2.4/2.5 on any normal week.

    Rob,

Out of curiosity, do you have the half-hour breakdown for Chuck? Curious to see if it’s usual strong second-half trend is continuing.

  • TMZ

Heroes will get a 13 episode mid season wrap up order from NBC. Book it, Dano!

  • Matt

Good to see Chuck bounce back. Hopefully the numbers will be up next week even more due to the ending of that horrible “Bachelor”

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Robert Seidman

FYI: Berman might have used the 8p-8:30p result rather than the full hour. Chuck had a 2.5/7 for the first half hour and a 2.4/6 for the second. But our data source has more than 1 significant digit of ratings points for the hour so doesn’t get caught up in rounding. You can trust it was a 2.4 rating for the whole hour, at least in the preliminary numbers.

  • Chuck Tranberg

L&O on Monday at 10 still did better than Jay Leno did on Mondays.

  • Paul

L&O is like most CBS procedurals, skew old.

  • andy

Bachelor is truly amazing. Best #s since 2003. Wow.

  • jr1234

I thought Chuck’s last show was very funny. I think there is a gap for a couple of weeks before DWTS comes back. Monday is still the best night of TV, Weds and Sundays are terrible. I think that a 2.4 or 2.5 are good enough for a renewal.

  • cool

Does anybody know the last half hour numbers of The Bachelor?

  • Eran

Oh SNAP for the ones who thought NBC was gonna be at the 3rd place in front of ABC!

  • Wingsabre

Good news for chuck. Hope it picks up more in numbers though.
I think anything could have done better than Jay’s show at 10.

  • Frank

How come Law & Order can’t get 10 million viewers like it used to do?

  • http://twitter.com/adrian_e Acey

    Via Berman:

The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love (ABC)
    8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 13.89 million (#1), A18-49: 4.7/13 (#1)
    8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 14.68 million (#1), A18-49: 5.0/13 (#1)
    9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 14.87 million (#1), A18-49: 5.2/13 (#2 to CBS)
    9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 16.48 million (#1), A18-49: 5.9/14 (#1t with CBS)

Big Bang tying the last half hour is pretty impressive, down only a tenth from that big 6.0 as Robert mentioned. And younger skewing than Bachelor.

  • Tom

24 only had a 2.5? Ouch. That will only make it more likely that the TV version ends this season.

Chuck back up to the 2.4 average is good – we’ll see for sure just how sticky that is vs. a new House next week though.

RoE just permanently ended AoP’s stay on Mondays. We’ll have to watch those Wednesday numbers to see if AoP returns anywhere next year.

Sheen’s personal life had no impact on Two and a Half Men. There’s a shocker. Though I’m sure CBS is ticked about potentially losing episodes from this season’s order, should Sheen be out of commission for that long.

L&O will be interesting to watch next week, vs. another procedural and with a likely terrible lead-in. Then again, it is certain the show returns next year, whether on Friday or on TNT.

  • Paul

I expected a bit more Total Viewers for Chuck, but i still see a full 22 episode 4th season being announced:) Heroes blehhhh, i have 13 episodes to catch upon and i don’t plan on viewing them, unless i’m feeling suicidal of course:)

  • Mark D.

My reviews for last nights shows:

The Secret Life of the American Teenager–7.5/10
    Make It or Break It–8/10
    Greek–9/10
    Chuck–8/10
    Life Unexpected–9/10
    How I Met Your Mother–8.5/10
    Rules of Engagement–7.5/10
    Two and a Half Men–7/10
    The Big Bang Theory–8.5/10

  • mswood

IF Chicago had BB Lux very well might go even lower in finals (have no idea if it aired later in the night).

  • ryan

i dont see how house would affect Chuck! im sure they audience is different, you wouldnt catch me watching that house crap.

  • peterm

Considering LUX lost its lead-in and its repeats are doing so well, I think this result is rather satisfying for CW. They should renew it.

  • Frank

I think that Parenthood is going to be a huge hit for NBC, the actors are that good. The show has enormous potential. Why? 3 reasons. 1. Parenthood has mass audience it’s appeal. 2. NBC promoted the hell out of Parenthood during the Olympics. 3. It’s airing right after the Biggest Loser.

  • Josh Emerson

Go Chuck! I’m happy it went up despite barely any Olympic promotion. And that looks like a pretty big number for HIMYM.

  • http://twitter.com/adrian_e Acey

mswood, I don’t know if WGN aired it later in the night. I would assume not, since CW will air it Wednesday at 8 pm and WGN will air it Saturday night as well. Lux debuts at 8 pm next Monday and thus will dodge Big Bang, but will have to deal with a new House instead.

  • peterm

    Frank, I hope you’re right. I want my weekly Lauren Graham-fix ! :)

  • http://pregnantcornbread.com Matt

Law and order will do much better back at 10 PM. At least it’ll do much better than Leno.

I can’t wait to see how the rest of the 10 PM shows do, especially Parenthood and the Marriage Ref.

  • AgentChuck

I am happy with those Chuck numbers. Chuck only got two 30 second promos and it went up this week.

I will take 2.2 vs 2.4/or 2.5 anyday. Lets hope NBC does as well.

  • Matt

    @Frank:

Cause the fans are dying off!!!! haha I’m only joking around. No harm or personal attack intended.

  • http://twitter.com/adrian_e Acey

Frank you’re still standing by that reasoning? I hope you’re not disappointed, buddy. You better add the REAL reason it will do okay to your list… the fact that Tuesday 10 pm is a hell hole. No FOX, virtually no ABC, and the old skewing Good Wife.

  • http://USA carmen

Chuck fanatics always seem to convince themselves that House has no impact on Chucks ratings. Funny how Chuck is always at its lowest numbers whenever a new House is on.

  • Jenny

“Considering LUX lost its lead-in and its repeats are doing so well, I think this result is rather satisfying for CW. They should renew it.”

I really love Life Unexpected, but do you really think it’s going to get renewed on those numbers? The repeat at 8:00 got some pretty solid numbers, so maybe when Gossip Girl comes back next week the numbers will go up?

  • Giuseppe

Does anyone know how Law and Order did in the demo last season when it came on Wednesday at 10:00? The fact that the numbers increased from 9:00 to 10:00 does look promising, as 10:00 will be its regular timeslot. And also, next week it will be against less competition, since it will air against Castle I presume. It should be interesting to watch the ratings for the next few weeks.

  • Matt

    @Josh:

Probably due to Carrie Underwood’s appearance. and this coming from a fan of HIMYM

  • rob

ABC will be in 3rd very soon. NBC went right back into 4th place. I figured theyd get at least 3rd. damn.

  • Frank

Acey, that is my real reason. Because of the Olympics promotion and the fact that the show has mass appeal and it airs after The Biggest Loser provides Hope. Even Jay did pretty good after the Biggest Loser.

  • Dan K

I think Chuck was at a 2.4 was because of a House rerun. I believe, before House premiered, Chuck was in the mid to high 2s. However when it went against new episodes of House its demo numbers fell into the low 2s. The finale of the bachelor was on last night, but I don’t think there is a ton of crossover with viewers who watch Chuck and The Bachelor. I think, going against a new House, Chuck’s demo won’t be any higher than a 2.4 (and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a drop) unless How I Met Your Mother has a repeat episode that week.

  • jake

24 has no lead in — why is house in repeats???

  • Frank

That just means that Chuck is in a bad timeslot. NBC needs to move Chuck to Wednesdays and have it air at 10 pm after the Biggest Loser. They should extend the Biggest Loser to 2 nights. Don’t know what they should do with SVU though.

  • Stewie

Hopefully 24 bounces back when a new House episode airs next week as its lead in

  • Stefan

    @Frank: I don’t know, maybe because it’s in its 20th season?!

Take that, NBC! Even though I hate reality shows, I’m glad to see ABC come in first and NBC last, where it belongs. I’m willing to bet Private Practice will beat Marriage Ref on Thursday too.

Damn, I expected much lower numbers for RoE. I thought (hoped) it would tank under 3.0. And I agree with one of the previous posters, AoP isn’t great but I’d much rather see it next season than RoE.

I’m excited to see how Parenthood does tomorrow. It’s so on the wrong network (would work MUCH better on ABC) but let’s see… And even though I like Lauren Graham, I still think the show would have been better with Maura Tierney.

And I don’t think it’d be wise for NBC to give Heroes 13 episodes. They should either cancel them or give them 23 episodes to reach 100 otherwise it’s just money down the drain.

Quality-wise, last night’s HIMYM and TBBT were superb!

Frank don’t put too much confidence in the fat parade… it only scored a 3.5 last original, not much of a lead-in. Granted that was versus Ellen’s debut on 2/9 and a nice 10.1 for Idol, but with the Olympics over I fully expect Idol to be back in the high 9′s tonight. Lost and NCIS: LA won’t back down in that second hour either. I’d almost go as far as to say TBL won’t even make a difference for Parenthood. As people have said, ‘Tuesday is the new Thursday’…

  • Marie

Great news for LAW & ORDER.
It rated 31% higher than the average Jay Leno Show EVEN after a long hiatus and moving its airtime date from Friday to Monday.

  • http://twitter.com/adrian_e Acey

Law & Order also costs a shit ton more to make than Jay Leno.

  • Katie

    Is L&O permanently on Monday’s?

  • moraliste

Parenthood on after Biggest Loser? Good. Lauren Graham deserves a network hit, and the Emmie nominations that went to less deserving actors from 2001 to 2007. ( Melissa McCarthey and the guy who played Luke should also have gotten at least one nomination. Not to mention Kelly Bishop and Ed Hermann …) I’m sure Parenthood will disappoint me and I doubt I will be a regular watcher, Lauren or no Lauren, but I hope the show does great. ABC doesn’t deserve 3rd place in the demo. ( BTW, ABCfans stands for Anything But Clarity, fans. The Bachelor is a classic, while Undercover Boss, Amazing Race, AI are all crap? Give it up for the sake of your own collective dignity. You have to be on ABC’s payroll or be brainwashed, or worse …!)

  • bug

I was right. CANCEL LUX AND RENEW OTH!!!!!!

  • Jenny

    I hate OTH!

  • Ambaryerno

You guys saying Chuck’s numbers this season were at their lowest against new eps of House forget that:

There was a new House the night of Chuck’s regular Monday premier (3×03 on Jan. 10). The numbers for Chuck the next week (3×04) were down a little, then went back UP the following week (3×05) when House returned with a new episode, and Chuck has been consistently up against new episodes of House since then.

Chuck’s numbers are most likely going to hold steady in the 6.7-7m actuals range through the end of the season.

  • Alice

I wonder how Life Unexpected will do when paired with Gossip Girl and when the Wednesday repeats stop airing. Hopefully all of those new people watching on Wednesdays will tune in on Mondays. Does anyone know the average ratings for Gossip Girl? I’m wondering if they’re are comparable with LUX or if it does much better/worse. Hopefully The CW will give LUX another season and let it grow. And one thing is for sure, they need to get it off of Monday nights.

  • Carol

Those are awful numbers for 24.

  • John A

Ha OTh is surely renewed now with Llfe faling again

  • Tom

I agree with frank and predict Parenthood will be a much needed hit for NBC. I say it does a 3.5 demo and 11 million viewere in the premiere. First show on nbc in years that looks halfway decent (sorry, chuck fans, but that’s only my humble opinion)

  • Frank

Remember the Gilmore Girls wasn’t very highly rated even for WBs standards during it’s 1st season either. It grew a bit as time went on.

  • Ron

    Go Chuck!!

  • Tom

My question is why did 1.44 million tune in to watch the repeat of Life Unexpected, but the show can’t break 2 million with a new episode? WTF????

  • http://twitter.com/adrian_e Acey

    Alice

    Gossip Girl – 1.17 A18-49 thru 12 episodes
    Life Unexpected – 0.98 A18-49 thru 6 episodes

Lux is also averaging 0.6 A18-49 thru 5 Wednesday repeats.

  • Chris

@Acey, L&O may indeed cost more than Leno but it’s got to be NBC’s cheapest scripted. It’s just a bunch of non-stars wandering the streets of New York getting statements.

  • Pat

I was hoping 24 would bounce back at the O

  • Melissa

I can’t believe how many idiots are watching The Bachelor.

24 needs to end after this season. The quality just hasn’t been the same after season 5.

I hope Southland does well tonight. I think it will be an even better show on cable.

  • banni

    NBC more colorful

  • Alice

“My question is why did 1.44 million tune in to watch the repeat of Life Unexpected, but the show can’t break 2 million with a new episode? WTF????”

Maybe people have other things they watch at 9? That’s why so many people watch the repeats on Wednesdays.

  • Qhat

    Perfect storm against 24. Olympics/House-reruns/Weak-Lead-in/Bachelor-Finale.

I guarantee 24 will be up substantially next week.

  • Frank

I’m not so sure Southland will do that well. I think Robert was right about Southland.

  • http://twitter.com/adrian_e Acey

You’re right Chris, so the question is… if its ratings are 31% more for NBC, hopefully the increased cost of production is less than 31% vs Leno. Of course it’s not that simple, but interesting to think about.

  • http://USA carmen

Well, If Parenthood can’t make it at 10:00 Tuesday, it will never make it anywhere. That is arguabley the softest spot on the weekly schedule (Sun-Thurs)

Hell, even Chuck might squeak out a 3.1 in that time slot.

  • banni

I don’t know what’s wrong with NBC putting L&O on Mondays. Why not just put it on Wednesdays? I bet it will do a little better there. Instead they put SVU – it’s highest drama – against CSI: NY – CBS’s average performing drama. SVU SHOULD at least perform on par or greater than NY considering its heavy promotion during Olympics. They should put their best performers on heavy nights so at least they won’t always look funny at fourth place.

  • Stefan

@ all of you who try to justify 24 dropping with it not having a strong lead-in: Don’t you think a show in its 8th season could maybe, I don’t know – stand on its own merits? If it can’t – it gets canned. It’s as simple as that.

  • Tom

“Maybe people have other things they watch at 9? That’s why so many people watch the repeats on Wednesdays.”

They won’t even have that option soon enough. They’ll either have to watch live or record it!

  • John Galt

Nearly 16 million people actually watched Bachelor: On the Wings of Lust? Sad commentary on the viewing public.

  • Fennerbender

I was surprised at the rise back up of Chuck until I saw that House was in repeats. Last episodes have been “Bantha Puddo”. Signed The Now Half Hearted Chuck Fan.

  • C

If “The Bachelor” is a hit and if “Two and a Half Men” is a hit, I have a horrible feeling “Marriage Ref” could be the new hit.

  • the128boy

    Heroes is DONE.

Chuck is safe… but will almost certainly dip next week when House returns. C’mon, it had a pass last night.

However, I don’t know if L&O is out of the woods yet. It was able to get a 1.7 on Fridays, and only managed a 1.9 at 9pm last night? Those are Trauma numbers. And this was it’s big back-to-back 2hr shift to Monday… I thought it would have done at least a 2.2 in each hour.

Rules of Engagement did decently. Better than AoP, at least. Almost assuredly renewed again… will CBS ever start this one in the fall, though?

  • Frank

The pilot for Marriage Ref was horrible. But, some of the upcoming episodes with Larry David look better. They shouldn’t have cut off the Olympics though.

  • Lee

Those look like decent numbers for L+O. I think CSI:Miami’s numbers are down due to The Bachelor moreso than L+O but it should be interesting to see next week when Castle returns.

  • X-R.G.

Ouch 24 – not good…though this season seems not so actioned packed…though It was cool to see Mare Winningham last night and it looks to be her episode next week…good casting!!!!

  • JJ

People seem pretty optimistic about Chuck and I’m not sure if the ratings are really so good. It’s an improvement over the last episode, but even with minimal promotion the Olympics probably helped some. Maybe the Bachelor pulled some viewers away, but probably not as many as the show gained from the Olympics and a House rerun.

I love the show and would like it to get renewed, but I’m not thrilled with these ratings.

  • Tom

Chuck isnt going to be renewed, its ratings are Lousy, 6.7 million in total viewers is terrible(it tied a House repeat).

I Was hoping L&O would do better on Mondays but I guess there is just too much competition

24 just isnt doing well this season, may be time to make this jack’s final day

  • Chris

“Chuck isnt going to be renewed, its ratings are Lousy, 6.7 million in total viewers is terrible(it tied a House repeat).”

You have to look at the big picture. Chuck may not be doing good for a FOX or a CBS but that’s one of NBC’s highest-rated shows and they can’t just ditch their entire line-up.

    Chuck will be back.

  • Scott Jones

Im so extremly proud of one of my favorite shows..Chuck. What an exciting action-packed episode of Chuck last night. Im so glad last night’s episode came in with a 2.4, which was a good bounce back from its prevoius episode. I’ve said it a thousand times and i’ll say it again this show has a bright future.

  • Scott Jones

Just want to let everyone know to tune to WWE:NXT tonight at 10 on SyFy.

  • Jolson

America is stupid. When 14.29 million people watch The Bachelor and only 6.7 million watch Chuck that’s a travesty to me. Chuck is one of the most well written and interesting shows, and The Bachelor is essentially a dating prostitution gameshow. lol…

  • Outlander

Chuck is an example of a good show that’s being held back by the complete failure of the network it’s on. If that show was on a better network, my guess is it’d be pulling 3.4 demo ratings instead of 2.4s.

As for 24, I’m a huge 24 fan and even I recognize that the show’s writing ran out of gas around Season 5. It’s had a long, successful run that Fox and the show’s producers can be proud of. But, I think it needs to end this season.

  • Brandon

What were Rules of Engagement’s ratings last year since it ran after 2.5 Men? That should be quite telling.

Glad to see Chuck and HIMYM ticking up.

  • Frank

Chuck would do much better on Wednesdays at 8 pm.

  • Don J

I think 24 will bounce back next week with House as a lead-in. House normally gets around 12-14M viewers a week and around a 4 in the demos right? I think 24 will be back to around 10M and a 3. Nielsen viewers are stupid.

  • Corey

I’m glad Chuck’s numbers went up, it seems pretty clear that last week was a Super Bowl-induced anomaly. With House back next week I could see a small demo dip, but remember that Chuck’s half-hour breakdown was a 2.5/2.4. So even with a small drop it could still maintain a 2.4 average. Also, that has become a weird trend. The show almost always has one half hour with a better demo rating, but the overall hour gets the lower of the two numbers. Every week, it’s just barely shy of averaging .1 higher in the demo.

I just hope a lot of people tune in next week, because it has already been hyped as possibly the best hour of television the show has ever done. All the critics love the next three episodes, so if the show can get back to a 2.5 it should stay there for much of the season.

  • Ambaryerno

    Chris,

Tom doesn’t know the meaning of the word “Big Picture.” He’s got a one-track mind, and no amount of explaining seems to get through to him that it’s NOT just how a program compares to the other networks, but to its OWN network average that matters. On a network where much of its scripted programming is struggling to get 2.0s, a consistent 2.4 is something to hold on to.

  • Bryan Bell

    To Acey and Chris –

Law & Order, like any long-running series, is on the high side of scripted dramas budget-wise, more expensive than Chuck, for e.g. But then it makes a shitload more money that Chuck and Leno put together (thrown in a couple of other NBC series in there as well). Between the money it pulls in from TNT and from foreign sales and the advertising revenue from its runs (initial and repeats) on NBC, it’s in big profit for NBC-U from the moment the cameras go on. And it still gets better reviews from the TV critics than almost anything else on NBC.

  • bug

@Jenny Who caes if u hate OTH??? OTH beats Gossip Girl (not in 18-34) 90210 and LUX… SO WHO CARES????????????????????

  • bug

    *cares that’s what i meant!

  • flip

Correct me if I’m wrong but 2.5 men is the current #1 Comedy

and TBBT is the “fastest growing” comedy and is already the current #2 Comedy.

If Chuck Lorre has a new show it will be promo-ed as:

…From the makers of the number ONE comedy and number 2 comedy comes

  • Tom

Apparently, you do Bug. Also go easy on the punctuation. I know you are probably all of 12-years-old, but it’s still not necessary.

  • bug

    Tom i’m not 12, i’m 17 :)

  • http://myspace.com/hbssports William

I am glad for Chuck. That show is getting better and better. But two hour Law And Orders will not do the trick. They have not had a decent drama block from 9-11 p.m. Eastern slot since they had Las Vegas and Medium.

I really hope Parenthood gets good numbers tonight and better next week.

  • Everlast

    Damn I miss the Olympics.

  • david

Heroes WILL be back. They tried putting L&O at 9 and look it got a 1.9 in the demo even with 7+ million watching. Heroes was at about 4.5 million getting above a 2.0

NBC would truely be stupid not to renew it…and YES i will stand by that statement. I’m not saying they should put it back to mondays @ 9 hell I think it’d be a good fit for the 10 o’clock hour myself.

If they think that every single one of their pilots will do better on mondays they’d be taking a huge risk there… they should renew the show and actually advertise it this time around…and the viewership will go up.

NOW..go head..bash me away. (to heroes haters)

  • MapleLeafer

    Me too Everlast.

  • Jack

CHUCK 2.4 with no HOUSE is not good. Good thing is that it has retained most of its viewership over 8 episodes with small changes in demo. If that does not fall over the next few episodes then NBC will consider it a safe bet.

  • Stefan

    @flip:
Technically TBBT is the #1 comedy and TAAHM #2 since it’s demo that matters.

But I sincerely hope that the new show won’t get picked up. I mean, I don’t want to sound snobbish, but who would wanna watch a show centered about two overweight people?! It’ll be jam packed with recycled fat jokes.
It’s the second-worst TV pilot idea of the coming season, Funny in Farsi being the worst.

  • Robert

I hope 24 and Life Unexpected bounce back next week when their lead ins return

  • JaySin420

I was always a huge 24 fan and I can’t even believe how bad it’s gotten, somehow Freddie Prince Jr is the best part of the show.

  • mac

I’m with those that believe in a Chuck renewal. Sure it maybe the lowest rated(of the majors nets) in its time slot, but its one of the toughest timeslots all week. Its up against shows that are already in their fifth and sixth season who had established viewers when if first aired. Not to mentioned those ABC reality monsters.

Plus the fact that NBC didn’t air it in the fall, and its first season was a shortened one.

All this going on and its still one of NBC most watched scripted shows. TO me that equals pick up for another season.

What I don’t understand, is the The Office and 30 Rock do equal or lower ratings in their timeslots, but why are they consider safe from cancelation shows. I don’t understand. I feel like even there 18-40 rations are similar. Am I missing a bigger picture?

  • Lucky

Acey, have you decided that this would be a good week for ABC now? You seemed to be not agreeing with that so much when I and multiple other sources said it back on the 27th. Just wondering.

I am guessing it could be tougher road for Chuck when House comes back w/new eps.

  • Tony

@Stefan – I think they rank the top shows based on total viewers. which is why NCIS is the number 1 drama, but other drams get better demos, but worse total viewers. which is why 2.5 men is still ranked as the #1 comedy.

  • Jarvis

Even though I am a fan of House, I actually watched Chuck last night. I enjoyed it, and am conflicted whether to watch it next week (I am tempted after watching the preview to next week’s episode) or watch the new House episode. As for 24, I think this may probably be its last season due to Kiefer Sutherland’s contract. It may turn out to be for the best, since perhaps they can focus on creating a movie franchise out of it. And I think Life Unexpected will be renewed despite its dismal numbers on Monday. The CW should focus on putting this show on Wednesdays from now on.

  • http://www.uniquestation.com lakersfan

I love both Chuck and house. Happy to see chuck got 2.4.

  • Diane

    Jarvis,

If it helps in your decision-making, TV critics who have seen screeners (Maureen Ryan, Sepinwall, Televisionary, etc.) call it one of the best episodes of the series and it is star Zachary Levi’s directorial debut.

  • C

    @mac

    The Office averages slightly above a 4.0. 30 Rock above a 3.5.

    Chuck, 2.5.

  • travustin

well monday is nbc’s another nightmare, but law & order will find it’s audience eventually

but nbc got it’s biggest winner, the biggest loser, and the premiere of parenthood, i cant wait for the rating release tomorrow

  • Josie

Law & Order is getting better again. If they could spice things up a bit like they 12th/14th seasons of the series it’d be okay in the ratings!

I hope L&O beats out the Simpsons and somehow makes it to 25 seasons, that would surely be a blessing for that series.

  • Stefani

YEAH for Life Unexpected’s ratings being down. Get rid of it and give us a Season 8 of One Tree Hill!

  • Mumbo

“I hope L&O beats out the Simpsons and somehow makes it to 25 seasons, that would surely be a blessing for that series.”

The Simpsons will be on well past 25 seasons. Law & Order will never catch it, especially when you consider the fact that Law & Order now gets lousy ratings and The Simpsons is still doing good to great numbers.

At least the 10:00 episode did better than the 9:00. Still a weak showing. It will be back to Friday nights next season and done after that.

  • david

Well last night NBC replaced Heroes’ timeslot with Law and Order. It recieved 7.58 million viewers with a 1.9/5 ratings share in adults 18-49.

Prepared to Heroes(season finale) which garnered 4.41 million viewers with a 2.0/5 ratings share.

I doubt this will have anything to do with the networks decision to bring the show back..but if Heroes can have 3+ million live viewers less than a new Law and Order on it’s 9pm timeslot and gather a better 18-49 share…isn’t that a good thing?

The show could get back up to 5.5 million viewers it’d probably close to a 2.4 if not a 2.5 which is usually seen as a safe renewal on NBC’s terms. I mean whether or not you want the show to be renewed would you agree with what I’m saying?

  • Holly

    @David,

    1. Older viewers may not help ad rates, but they don’t hurt them either, so no, having fewer viewers with the same demo doesn’t help Heroes any.

    2. There is next to no chance Heroes could get back up to a 2.5.

  • forg

Sad for Life Unexpected’s numbers, I hope they could still rebound :(

HIMYM and TBBT did well. Almost 4.0 for HIMYM, yay! I hope TBBT will be back to 6.0 next week. CBS should ask 2.5 Men to find a way to produce new episodes even without Charlie, the ratings are really good that it would be waste if they go on repeats way early.

To me, RoE did fine but not spectacular, yeah it was up slightly from AoP but it still dropped quite a lot from HIMYM. It needs to build from HIMYM to be a lock for renewal.

After The Final Rose was huge. 5.4 at 10pm? WOW!

Well back to normal for NBC.

  • Jarvis

“If it helps in your decision-making, TV critics who have seen screeners (Maureen Ryan, Sepinwall, Televisionary, etc.) call it one of the best episodes of the series and it is star Zachary Levi’s directorial debut.”

    Diane,

Thanks. I’ll definitely keep that in mind. If anything, it will make me lean towards watching Chuck again next week.

  • Corey

Yeah Jarvis, if you want to see Chuck at its best then the next three episodes apparently give it to you. All of the critics who have seen the screeners have been effusive in their praise. Plus, Chuck needs all the eyeballs it can get. House doesn’t. Whenever I’m in a quandary like that, I go with the show that needs the support. Just a thought. I hope the show hooks you like it did me.

  • http://www.weheartchuck.com Wendy

Jarvis…you may also want to check out what’s coming up for the rest of the season on Chuck here: http://bit.ly/cTrJpk

Reviews are great but I’m a fan of the visual aide. Glad you enjoyed this weeks episode and hope you watch again…if nothing else, thanks for checking it out.

Aside from Chuck’s numbers, I’m really happy to see HIMYM doing so well…especially since last night’s episode hit on the hotness of pharma sales reps (a fact of both genders), the cuteness of teacup pigs, & how horrible it is to ‘hook’ someone & let them dangle.

  • Corey

    @C

I don’t know where you’re getting that 30 Rock averages over a 3.5, but you’re not right. In fact, without The Office as a lead-in it dropped below Chuck’s numbers. The last time an original episode aired it got a 2.9 and that was with a tick up.

  • Jarvis

    @Corey

Oddly enough, Chuck has started to hook me more than I thought. Prior to last night’s episode, I saw a Chuck episode called Chuck vs. First Class. I found it to be funny, and entertaining (having Steve Austin, Kristin Kreuk, and Brandon Routh seemed like icing on the cake). Last night’s episode somehow magnified it a little more for me. Thanks for the advice.

    @Wendy

Thanks for the link. I checked it out, and now I’m really curious to see how everything pans out by season’s end.

  • ohiogirl

Why were the ratings up for ‘The Bachelor’? It’s the matchmaker in all of us. Jake is such a nice young man…always trying to do the right thing, hard working, pleasant, kind and well-mannered. It was only natural that America had a vested interest in seeing this guy find a nice girl and settle down. Ratings soared when our nice young man became the victim of a Jezebel who lured him whilst setting her eyes on another conquest. Out came our claws… Whew! Gone! Now we can get down to finding a nice girl for…WAIT! Another tawdry female is now working her whiles on our fine young bachelor, risking his chance at true happiness with a young woman of virtue…Alas, our bachelor has fallen victim to the allure of another temptress, and all our matchmaking was for naught.
Perhaps our Jake is a bachelor because he habitually fails to make good choices in the romance department. Seems he enjoys being a bachelor after all, because the odds of these two making it down the isle are curious at best.

  • Sarah Knowles

Charlie Sheen can do no wrong when it comes to numbers and ratings. CBS will be praying that he walks out of rehab and right back onto the set! I know TAAHM got renewed last year for 3 seasons but I think he might walk when HIS contract is up end of this one. CBS want at least 9 seasons – I see Charlie saying bye-bye after 7.

  • Joe

Part of the reason Life Unexpected’s ratings were lower is that in Chicago, the bulls game was televised instead. I’ll be watching it on Wednesday, and I suspect Wednesday’s numbers will be higher.

  • Kelly

I would probably/maybe like CHUCK, but as long as HOUSE is on in it’s time slot, I HAVE TO watch HOUSE.

  • AgentChuck

I quit house two years ago. I have always watched Chuck but I used to DVR House and now I cannot even stand the show. On top of that Chuck is fun and has Yvonne Strahovski. Enough said.

Does House have Drama, Romance, Action and Comedy and nerd references. Plus gasp there is actually character progression on Chuck. Do yourself a favory watch Chuck this week just this once. I guarantee you will never go back. Also most of the major cristics have said this is the best episode of the series and that is saying alot.

  • billyot

i hope The Big Bang Theory keeps growing up until they reach american idol ratings because i am seeing that coming!!!
