Legend of the Seeker looks likely to be canceled.

Fans are in a tizzy about a story that quotes a corporate relations SVP at Tribune Company:

A representative from the Tribune Company is now saying that Legend of the Seeker will not be renewed for a third season.

When e-mailed for comment by KSiteTV and by others, this is what he said:

Dear Craig,

Thanks for your email and for your support of the show. Unfortunately, not enough viewers felt the same way as you and “Seeker’s” ratings do not merit renewing it. I’m sorry.

Gary Weitman
SVP/Corporate Relations
Tribune Company

I contacted Mr. Weitman who was extremely responsive and sensitive to the plight of the fans, but confirmed that the ratings did not merit Tribune sticking with it for a 3rd season.

Legend of the Seeker is an ABC Studios production distributed by ABC Domestic television but seemingly airing primarily (and perhaps exclusively) on Tribune-owned stations with the WGN America  superstation having the widest coverage.

I have contacted ABC in hopes of tracking down someone who can advise on whether ABC Domestic Television might attempt to syndicate it anyway despite the Tribune Station Group not picking it up.   If I find out anything else I will post it.

  1. Empire says:

Well this sucks. Actually felt this season was a lot better then the first, well not the ratings, but quality, I suppose scripted syndication just doesn’t work right now.

  2. Jon K. says:

    Wow that sucks :(

  3. Deej says:

This is so upsetting. Seeker’s ratings have been getting better, not worse. Argh.

  4. forg says:

Well is the 18-49 demo still the core demo for this show to be profitable? Or any other specific demo?

I just see total viewers on the ratings reports so it’s kinda hard to analyze

  5. Deej, depends on how you look at it. S2 was pretty consistent w/in a range, but the most recent episode we have data for (2/20 episode) was a season low and season 2 was lower than season 1.

  6. Smallville says:

Dam i just bought the season 1 I really liked this show!! Its my third favorite show =( behind Smallville and Supernatural and above Castle and NCIS: Los Angeles

  7. Forg: unfortunately all we ever see directly from Nielsen for syndicated shows (not just Seeker) is household and total viewer information, no demos.

  8. Liz says:

That’s a shame. I enjoyed the show for what it was, though I have found season 2 to be a little dark.

  9. stranger danger! says:

Are you effing kidding me?!?!?!?! Seeker is freaking awesome! i hate how all my shows keep getting picked off! its like the corporate world took a list of all my favs and have been gradually going down it! >:| Merlin- canceled (luckily still new eps online… from UK!) Kings- canceled, Kyle XY- canceled! THANK GOODNESS smallville just got picked up for season 10. i think i would have cried if it didnt.

  10. forg says:

^ I see. Well the total viewers ranges on 2+ million and would probably have CW-like demo numbers which I guess not good enough for Tribune stations.

Too bad, maybe this would have worked on cable.

  11. Kalena says:

even with the decreased ratings, doesn’t LOTS still beat 90% of The CW’s ratings? and its on a saturday afternoon, not primetime.

  12. Jill says:

That is awful!I think though it had alot to do with the timing that the show is aired especially here on the west coast. The time slot should be adjusted to make for more viewers. This is a good show and to see it not renewed is a bummer!

  13. Michele says:

Wow I really liked the Legend of the Seeker. Such a shame!!!!

  14. Jon K. says:

season to date its averaging 2.33 million viewers, maybe SciFi or something will pick it up…..I can hope right?

  15. JLStewart says:

What a shame. I really enjoyed the show. Perhaps someone else will be willing to pick it up.

  16. ryan says:

ugh, if it is forsure cancelled i will be mad, i love this show, and season 2 has gotta so good! much better then season 1

  17. Yet another fan says:

So utterly disappointed. Seems that almost every show my husband and I love gets cancelled within a season or two. I guess life is better if you don’t fall in with the masses but it sucks for TV watching… :(

  18. shelly says:

Huh, what bizarre news. The way this show is buzzed about (it’s one of the few if not only fantasy show that Kristin from E! covers), you’d think it’s a shoo-in for renewal. But then I haven’t been following the ratings and I’m not a fan of it personally. I must admit I loved Sam Raimi’s other series Hercules and Xena and always found them very entertaining but was so bored by the Legend pilot that I never even finished it; not that it’s a bad show but it wasn’t connecting with me at all the way Hercules and Xena did.

@stranger, no need to worry about Merlin being that its BBC ratings and not the US ratings determine if it gets renewed, though even that’s not entirely true because BBC programming isn’t wholly ratings-based. In any case Merlin may not have done well here but it continues to do well in the UK and abroad. And season 1 is finally available for pre-order in the US though of course there’s no telling how season 2 will do on Syfy.

  19. Jimmy says:

That’s a shame. Season two of seeker was a vast improvement over season one.

  20. Thad says:

I’ve watched the entire first and up to current second seasons. I also read the books on which the series is based and I have a theory about the low numbers.

While the series is actually nicely produced the story borrows only broad strokes of plot from the books, and frequently contradicts the books entirely. I suspect that many fans of the books quickly abandoned the show due to the contradictions in mythology and plot points. This probably accelerated in season 2 as the show veered even further from the story arc of the books.

  21. Caio says:

Hasn’t Merlin been canceled already? Or was that Robin Hood?

Oh, that’s a shame! I stopped watching this season for a while, but I’ll get back to it soon, and I was really loving it! It really is darker than Season 1, but the scripts quality is also sooo much better. It’s a shame, because I do feel no other channel is gonna pick it up…

  22. shelly says:

Caio, it depends whether you’re talking Stateside or the UK. Robin Hood finally ended for good after 3 seasons (or was it 4? I forgot). NBC cancelled Merlin but Syfy has picked it up and the BBC will start work on season 3 of Merlin very soon to allow it to premiere in the UK this September. Whether Syfy continues to show future seasons of Merlin depends on how good its ratings will be come April.

Thad, your theory makes sense though I’ve never read the books. However, Sam Raimi’s shows often tend to pick up fans who’ve never followed the source materials of his shows (Hercules, Xena) so who knows? From everything I’d heard the show is very popular so this news is honestly very surprising to me. I’ll bet the fans who thought this was doing well too are honestly shocked.

  23. Ryan says:

Well this news ruined my night.. The show i think is great, it has an awesome cast with smart funny writing. The only problem is when it is shown. It is shown here on Sat at 3pm so that is not exactly when people are home, i watch it usually from dvr or online but i hope some1 can save this show

  24. jake says:

The show was decent, I’d watch at least another season.

  25. Leah says:

OMG! i love legend of the seeker! i will now die if it doesnt cum 4 a 3rd season!! ahhhhhh help!

  26. RJ says:

I thought the show looked like crap, but I’m surprised.

  28. cowbert says:

It’s a terrifically good fantasy series for what it is. At the total risk of sounding cliched, it’s a very nice post-9/11 or post-300 fantasy (like BSG was post-9/11 sci-fi). Goodkind himself said “take the show for what the show is, don’t try to compare them to the novels, they just borrowed the characters).

I am liking it more than the Robin Hood series because of content length (british tv is 13 hours/season, compared to 22 for US) and character development. I just finished watching both via Netflix/streaming (Had to go the old-fashioned netflix dvd route with Robin Hood series 3).

USA or SyFy would be perfect to pick it up, but unfortunately it’s an shot by an ABC studio and not NBC..

  29. yoshue says:

    noooooooooooo

and by “noooooooooooo,” i actually mean “what the heck is legend of the seeker? that sounds awful!”

  30. Julia says:

Oh, yoshue, don’t be such an ass. And get on Skype and I can explain it to you.

Speaking of canceled shows, was there a post about Michael and Michael Have Issues being canceled? I don’t think the show is a big draw to the site, but Michael Ian Black was tweeting about how much he hates Comedy Central a couple of days ago.

  31. so basically in all the markets that matter, it’s tribune owned/or available via WGN America and in New Orleans and Indy where the Tribune stations don’t carry it, that’s because there is also a tribune owned CW affiliate in those markets.

  32. cowbert says:

@RJ it has way higher production values than Robin Hood, comparatively. (I have not seen Merlin so I can’t compare). Everything from the framing sequences and FX down to costuming is completely a league higher than Robin Hood (the chain mail in LotS actually looks *real*, and not silvery-textured cloth, for example) and the new zealand shooting locations are always fresh and unique, not totally reused like they are in RH. If you go to Netflix streaming and compare with an old episode of Hercules or Xena, I think Sam Raimi finally “grew up” shooting the Spiderman movies and is now doing much better work than he has done before.

  33. baqinardo says:

Totally bad news. Next year i dont know what to watch on Saturday. T_T

  34. Jason says:

Completely bummed out about Seeker. I’ve learned a lot about how TV works as a result of Seeker coverage and I’ve got to say, it blows.

  35. Caio says:

I think I confused Merlin with Robin Hood. But does NBC canceling really influence at all wether Merlin would have another season or not, or would the show just not be aired in America anymore if SyFy hadn’t picked it up?

  36. Brandon says:

My WGN actually says it plays on Saturdays at the same time it does on the CW. I live in Charlotte. But I can never find it on WGN but I do on the CW.

This news really bugs me. I was hoping for at least a few more seasons but that doesn’t look the case. I really want a final press release.

  37. mark wood says:

Thats too bad, I am not surprised but I was hooping.

  38. Ziggo says:

Wow, what a punch to the gut. I was 90% sure we would see a renewal.

  39. Matthew says:

Man, I hope this really isn’t the case. Seeker is such a great show, it will be sad to see it get cancelled, especially so early in the series. Hopefully ABC will continue the show without Tribune.

  40. Joe H says:

No surprise, considering I watch the show.

Starting to feel like a grumpy old man, “Nothing goods on TV anymoarrrr!”

  41. Verus says:

CW or Syfy should pick it up. It couldn´t possiblt do any worse than melrose, unexpected, stargate universe and so on ;)

  42. shelly says:

Caio, that was my point in my post above – that how Merlin performs in the US has nothing to do with whether it keeps getting renewed in the UK, its place of origin. It’s doing fine on BBC One so they’ll keep making it for now. But how Merlin performs here is relevant to whether the US* will keep airing it.

*Truth be told even this doesn’t matter much being that a good number of Merlin’s US fans have very likely already seen the show as soon as it airs in the UK through “nontraditional” means.

  44. shelly says:

@cowbert, I agree that the production values for Hercules and Xena weren’t the greatest because they had a limited number of New Zealand actors to work with. But those shows ran for several seasons and were *very* successful in syndication, especially Xena.

My point being that if the scripts and the actors are good enough, production values don’t matter as much. Say whatever else you will about Hercules and Xena, their characters and stories were very engaging (though that wasn’t always true of Hercules). That’s been true of all the fantasy and scifi shows that have had good runs: Hercules, Xena, Farscape, the BBC’s Robin Hood, Merlin, Torchwood, Doctor Who, etc.

Not that I’m saying the same wasn’t true for Legend because I hadn’t watched the show but I don’t think it pulled viewers as immediately as some others have. At least that’s true in my case and I LOVE fantasy, my favorite genre. I enjoyed Hercules and Xena right from the start but I just can’t say the same for Legend.

  45. Flip says:

robert, as usual, thanks for the update, even though extremely grim. I actually rarely watch tv but was hooked on LOTS because of Hulu…..oh well back to the pile of books that were building up…

As another fan said…typical all the shows I like get canceled. TV just continues to dumb itself down. If networks never take any risks then they will continue the downward flush in quality they have taken and the viewers become lower and lower grade. The rest of us going to books and computers for our nightly activities.

  46. Tori says:

Damn this really sucks, I really enjoy this show and tell ppl about it all the time. I think its not being watched because alot of ppl dont know it exists. I just ran into it while browsing the internet and the name caught my eye. To bad it wasnt promoted more.

  47. tvmegafan says:

NOOOOOOOOOOOO. I love this show, I watch it every single week I love it. How is this possible, what the heck do they expect when the show is on saturdays at 3pm? They never promote it, so of course No one know about it. Gosh Im sooo pissed.

  48. Roger m says:

We need to at least complete the story!!!

  49. vsaint says:

WTF. such an under rated show.

  50. Terrence Romero says:

WEll that is just BULL****!!!! I love this show and if they really cancel it my life will be ruined!!! well not exactly but i love this show enough! I work every sat. so i cannot watch it on tv, however i have netflix, and i watch it every monday night when it releases on netflix instant play!!!! I’m very upset they are canceling my fav. show.

  51. jackson says:

I hope that twitter quote means something good. Hopefully a network like Syfy picked it up.

  52. DivineReeper says:

I really dont like much on TV, and i didnt give Seeker a chance until i got bored one day, said “what the hell” and watched it on Netflix. Now im hooked, have gotten half way thru season 2 and i just now came across this. WTF, im pissed, my faith in all that is good and enjoyable on TV just died, this is total BS. All the good ones get cancelled, one of my other favs was Surface. Cancelled after one season and a cliffhanger end. Please everyone, do something, petition, pillage, go postal, whatever it takes, please dont cancel the Seeker, please dont make me go back to old school table top gaming to get my fantasy fix.
(Remember, when trapped in a cave with a dragon and a hobbit, you dont have to run faster than the dragon, just be faster than the hobbit.)

  53. Margot Worthington says:

Why do we always lose the shows that are so brilliant? This is the ONLY show I record these days to watch again, especially if I’m not going to be home when it’s on. I’m so sad to hear that it’s not renewing. Let us know if there is anyone we can write to. I bet there is a much larger fan base than anyone in the business suspects.

  54. Hellster says:

This is exactly why i try not to get too attached to tv shows anymore , 90% of the “crap” shows get picked up and last for it seems like forever and all the good shows get the axe , and tv networks wonder why so many don’t watch tv much anymore , just a waste of time when sooner or later (usually sooner) the good shows end up biting the dust.

  55. Kate says:

Seriously Smallville was renewed for a 10th season but shows like Legend of the Seeker are being snuffed out before they’re barely given a chance to spread their wings… makes me wonder what the hell the people who make these decisions are smoking.

  56. Emm says:

This is not good news. I JUST started watching the show, and to find out this. The series just needs some more time. People just finding out about the show like I. I hope they realize this.

Thanks for keeping us posted with the news.

  57. Justin says:

I hardly watch any TV but this is one of the shows I always watch, either on TV or on the Internet (HULU). It was one of my favorite shows, I can’t believe it’s being cancelled. This is BOGUS. Now all we have left to watch are reality shows…Come on! Let’s see a little variety! I think the show needs more time.

  58. Ramenth says:

I dunno, seems like a valid choice given where they are in the plotline. By the end of the season they’ll be at the point where the series took a sharp turn towards the awful. And lets be honest, even with the distance between Legend of the Seeker and the original books, they’re still sticking reasonably close to the plot. I don’t have much faith in the show being any better than the anticommunist-evilpacificst filled crap that Goodkind was publishing.

  59. Lil says:

Nooo!!! I only just started watching this show and now i am hooked, & now to have it cancelled? Why must all the good shows get cancelled!

  60. Roddenberry says:

It’s idiocracy.Only bad shows , sport and reality TV will be on TV

  61. kevh55 says:

i thought tv was supposed to be about entertainment this was a great show with a growing fanbase world wide and now it could be lost just when its getting started no wonder these people are having finacial problems

  62. kendyl says:

You Cannot stop Legend of the Seeker its my new obsession since twilight (and that was depressing compared to this)why doesnt it just go on normal T.V cos in australia you can only get it on Austar which is a HD TV (set top box with all american channels & every other channel ever made) so no wonder there arent many viewers

  63. Courtenay says:

OMFG! This pisses me of so much, i love this series! And now i cant enjoy it anymore because they have decided to cancel it, no matter how many people love to watch it, it doesnt matter. I feel like punching them in the face. I just started watching this series, in Australia so its only on the first season. I hope another station picks it up. It truelly is a great show!

  64. Victoria says:

Please please! do not end Legend of the Seeker it’s a really great show and I love watching it there must be something that can be done to save it. Dollhouse got canceled because that show was not doing well and I agree with it being stopped. It’s not fair to stop LotS just because a few ratings have gone down when there are still quite a lot of people who watch it.

  65. oneeye says:

bad news if it is cancelled :(

  66. Alexander says:

And, Legend of The Seeker costs about $1-million per episode to make, so it MUST have distribution in the major market. I mean, what’s up with that…

  67. Vamp Mom says:

Bummer if it’s canceled. This is one of those shows that I always thought fit well on SyFy. Thanks for keeping us posted Robert.

  68. SuperiorBRAIN says:

WTF GREAT SHOW>>>>> REALLY GREAT SHOW.

I Gave this Show a Chance & It Hooked me pretty good.

Season 1 was Great…Season 2 Somehow got EVEN BETTER

THIS IS SO STUPID……WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE

PEOPLE WATCH DUMB CRAP LIKE SWAMP LOGGER & GHOST HUNTERS, BUT NOT GOOD INTERESTING ORIGINAL STORY DRIVEN SHOWS LIKE LEGEND OF THE SEEKER

CARNIVALE was the BEST SHOW EVER CANCELLED (Screw you HBO MORONS)

CW Cancels Reaper (Best Show On the Whole Network) But they Air 90210 remake & Vampire ripoff Show Trash

    Firefly Cancelled

Flash Forward, V, Heroes…All Decent Enough Shows All Facing Possible Cancellation

Its Like if there is a Story that MORONS Have to Try to Comprehend….they Wont Watch it

  69. H. van Wijk says:

The American series The Prisoner was absolutely not a success in America. But in other countries it was a hit and so they decided to make other seasons. From all my friends I hear that they love Legend of the Seeker. So DON’T stop it.

  70. Jon says:

Legend of the Seeker made the fatal flaw of starting off vaguely resembling a series of semi-popular books, which evolved into a campy episodic fantasy series with no resemblance to said books, which evolved into a parody of those same books. It spurned its target demographic three times over for, most of the time, no good reason.

I watch it every now and then on Netflix, but never on TV, simply because I never turn on the TV for a regular series at 5 PM on a Saturday. The ratings are absolutely remarkable for a Saturday afternoon timeslot, but I guess Legend of the Seeker doesn’t do quite as well as House repeats in the all-important ratings.

  71. Peter says:

Legend of the Seeker is one of the best production at this moment, excellent history and orientation. The problem is this show is not about doctors or criminal investigation and the channel prefer this shows.

    SAVE THE SEEKER …..

    Syfy own this show !!!!

  72. dierre says:

Well, it’s too soon to jump to a conclusion. The upfronts are in may and the sales are what really counts so take it easy.

  73. Necros says:

Jon, I think a lot of fans wouldn’t agree with you and those people who don’t know the books, love it anyway. Like myself.

I hope SyFy or someone else picks it up, I want to see more of Cara, more of Legend of the Seeker!

  74. I love Richie!! says:

Wha!!! Noooo! This is so sad! Let’s all hope another network does pick it up.

  75. Sean says:

Like, wth? Why did this happen?
Why does all the crappy shitshows stay on TV while the really good shows are thrown in a dumpster? God, I will be so dissapointed if this show would be cancelled, because it is one of the best shows I’ve seen in my life.

  76. Jacob B. says:

Aw, that’s a shame. I thought the first season was borderline terrible, but the second season really turned things around.

I was always under the impression it had good ratings, though, from the articles here. What kind of expectations did Tribune have for the show in order for it to be considered successful?

  77. Katie says:

This just sucks I HATE that stupid shows get renewed but AWESOME shows like LotS gets the shaft!

    WTF!!!

  78. Kyle says:

Add me to the list of ‘Just discovered LotS/It’s awesome/Don’t cancel it!’

Really sucks, can’t seem to win in the genre TV game.

  79. Shirley T. says:

This bad Tribune news about Legend of the Seeker really stinks, but maybe the Syfy channel or another station group like FOX will pick it up. Keep writing, tweeting and e-mail wherever you can. Let Disney/ABC Domestic TV know how you feel. Check out Her Blue Eyes website for more contact information. Keep the faith!!

  80. Lisa G says:

Yeah dump Legend of the Seeker, and keep Two and a Half Men. Now that makes sense. :-P

  81. Kitty says:

Okay this hurts.. I find out Smallville is returning so I’m happy but then this news! Ouch! I swear I’ll stop calling SyFy “siffy” if they save this show.

  82. Lacey ann says:

OMG OMG r u serious!!! this is not happening! Legend of the seeker is a work of pure genius. The action the romance the soul of this series has only just begun and they want to cancel! uh uh i dont think so! They cancel this show and there will be hell to pay!!!

  83. Gary M says:

Tribune did a very poor job of marketing Legend of the Seeker, no advertising and airing at very bad time slots etc. I think lots of people were watching it on HULU and downloading it to their I pods because of the ridiculous times it aired, so all that missed being included in the ratings as well as the overseas market, which is extensive. I think the show has a larger following than they realize. As far as I’m concerned, Tribune failed in their duty as a broadcasting company to bring quality TV to the watching public at a reasonable time.

  84. Drew says:

This totally sucks! The Seeker is one of the best shows on TV.

  85. Dingo says:

    Taking numbers from the article:

    http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/03/02/syndicated-judge-judy-tops-oprah-legend-of-the-seeker-sees-season-lows/43554

The good news is LotS has a loyal fanbase of two million who will watch every episode, including repeats. The bad news is that loyal fanbase is nearly the entire audience.

LotS never reached 2.7 million total viewers this season. A 2 demo was not attained.

The problem is even some of the people who are posting on this thread–people who are clearly passionate about the show–are not watching it live. “DVR,” “Hulu” and “Netflix” have each been mentioned more than once.

Sure, the weekend timeslots aren’t good. There’s a reason LotS is the only scripted series currently in first-run syndication, as TVTV has stated. The days of Baywatch are done.

Hercules and Xena were mentioned several times in this thread. Those shows have been off the air for years. Filming in New Zealand helped cut costs.

No executive would want to be pinned down on what audience level is enough to renew a show since a lot of factors are considered. The bottom line, however, is the bottom line. As was stated in this thread, House reruns (or some other show) generate more money for Tribune. Hence, the decision that was made.

  86. don says:

sad to see a good show go so fast

  87. Richard says:

This is the only decent show that I watch. Why in the world would they cancel a TV show this popular? It is a grave mistake on Tribune and ABC’s part if they indeed went through with this cancellation. This is just INSANE!!

  88. Flip says:

    Thanks Robert…

  89. Seekerfan says:

This is THE BEST show on TV!! It’s the only one I even care about watching. This show gets over 2 million views each week! That’s way better than much of the garbage out there! With the smallest promotion this show could be HUGE!! I still can’t get over the fact that the actors appeared in NY Times Square and not ONE word was said about other than a tweet from one of the cast!!

PLEASE syfy, TNT, someone…keep this EMMY WINNING show alive!

  90. Sara says:

That is the email sent to everyone who sends one LOL Like a bot message.

I’ll be here waiting for your updates!
This show can be bigger if they care more. Like promoting and stuff.. just saying..

  91. shelly says:

Syfy has made no mention of picking this up and frankly, I really don’t expect them to. They’ve got their plates pretty full at the the moment what with their own shows, shows they’ve picked up (Merlin) and the Octoshark movie or whatever it is that they’re so enthusiastic about. Sorry, Legend fans.

Before the bingo cards get much more of a workout, I would like to point out something else: first run syndication shows don’t have much of a leg up from the get go because syndication shows often don’t get found by audiences unless there’s huge buzz. Scifi/fantasy shows have an even steeper hill to climb because they’re not the mainstrem audience’s cup of tea. Hercules and Xena managed to beat both of those odds because the quality of those huge inspired huge buzz and fandoms and also because they existed during a time when watching them live was the only option as opposed to resorting to Hulu or iTunes or dvrs.

Bottom line being, for all its challenges faced Legend just didn’t have as much of a chance. The cancellation is sad for its fans but not completely unexpected.

My understanding dierre is that upfronts don’t apply to sydicated show like Seeker. Article floating around today say’s ABC/Disney will decide by end of month. We need to act now to save this AWESOME show!!

  93. Rach says:

This show is brilliant and in my opinion, it would be foolish to cancel it now. There is so much life in this show. This is why they should just get bold and press on with a Season Three anyhow. Except, this time around, promote it right and go from there. Then, during Season 3 once they’ve done the proper promotional push, if the numbers still aren’t there, make a call about cancellation. They should not be bowing out before giving it what they could. They have gold on their hands. If they would only just put that gold in the direct light so people can see it shine its’ brightest.

    SOS: Save Our Seeker!

  94. cra says:

This season has been a great improvement especially since the addition of the character Cara who has given the show more of an edge. I, however, think the show’s main characters are just a tad boring (despite the fact the actors are good) and the episode plots predictable. Having said that I think the show deserves another season and a permenent spot on either SYFY ot ABC Family would be good. Tribune is making a mistake I don’t really think the ratings are that bad considering that the show airs at various times during the weekend. Does the WB really do that much better?

  95. Poli says:

Oh this is *&(&)(*_)*+_) How can someone in their right mind cancel such a show? We’re constantly being bombed by crappy cop and doctor shows … I’m so sick of it all. LotS provides a unique kind of escapism and nowadays it’s the only show of this genre on TV. It has an amazing cast, gorgeous cinematography and a good plot. It’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Fanbases have achieved renewal before and so can the Seeker fans. While M. Sussman is still optimistic so shall I.

  96. Elodie says:

Here is the answer he send me:

“I agree, the show does have a deeply loyal fan base…but it just isn’t broad enough. Not enough people watched the show to merit our station group picking it up for a third season. Perhaps another media company will do so.

    Gary Weitman

    SVP/Corporate Relations

    Tribune Company”

  97. Karen says:

This show is my only must see show and is only getting better. The cast is fantastic and I adore the romance, magic and drama of it. Hopefully, it will continue on for a third season.

  98. Jami says:

I’ve written to @syfy and I also received an email from Mr. Weitman, disappointing. I really hope ABC pushes to find another distributor! Legend of the Seeker is hands down my favorite show. It needs a new home to continue the adventures of Richard Rahl & Kahlan Amnell.

  99. I just got hooked on LoTS — and season 2 is amazing! Just because a few stations don’t pick it up doesn’t mean it’s canceled. They are still making new episodes!

Tell everyone to watch it, and keep the pressure on! We want SEASON 3!!

  100. I encourage you folks to PLEASE STOP E-MAILING Gary. He’s a really, really nice guy, and even 200,000 e-mails aren’t going to change Tribune’s mind.

  101. Jami says:

I emailed and he replied. I won’t email again. It’s sad Tribune didn’t do their part in giving Legend of the Seeker 1. A Good time slot 2. And NO PROMOTION!!! I found the show by accident, flipping channels because I DETEST the mindless “reality” programs, the cop & robbers, and the overall wasteland that is called entertainment. Legend of the Seeker is well written, well acted, and the production and finished product is amazing!! I hope Syfy does take a good look and realize this show would be a perfect fit for their station. It’s so much better than Merlin. I tried to watch that show….BORING!!

  102. Megan says:

Legend of the Seeker is one of the- if not THE- best television shows left on TV today. It’s my personal favourite, and I think that it’s a shame that Tribune is just tossing it out like it is. They barely promoted it (I found it by hearing about the plot from a friend and realized how much it sounded like the plot from the books so looked into it), and then they’re surprised that it doesn’t have supposedly “high” ratings? Really now. And I don’t know what they’re basing their ratings off of, but this show has plenty of people watching it, gaining more as it goes and a loyal fanbase. I do hope other networks realize that Legend of the Seeker is something very much worth taking on.

  103. Harold says:

The folks at Syfy have a good sense of humor, but even they may be mildly annoyed that a common joke is now “maybe Syfy will pick this up.”

For example, a particular portion of a story isn’t breaking right? “Maybe Syfy will pick up this episode.”

Still struggling with a joke to replace a placeholder jokoid? “Maybe Syfy will pick up this joke.”

  104. aex says:

I love this show…I hope to watch 3. and more seasons…my favorites are Smallville , Lost and Legend of the Seeker …Wake up TV channels…

  105. Jolene says:

It would be a shame to lose this show, it’s just getting better and better. The Acting, scripts and production value are all awesome! They are telling a grand story. The ratings are good for a show that doesn’t do anything to promote itself. The people i’ve had watch it are all hooked! It gets crappy time slots in many markets and people still manage to find it. I can’t believe that Disney would pay so much for the rights to the SOT series and then let the show die after 2 seasons when it’s barely touched all the material they paid for. It’s a sad situation if this show ends up being canceled.

  106. Allison Roche says:

Legend of the Seeker is one of the best shows on TV! For the guys there monsters and mayhem galore – gruesome gars, bloodthirsty banelings, and scabby screelings! The effects are as good as a major theatrical release. For the gals there’s romance with super sexy Craig Parker and Craig Horner! (Though I prefer Parker) The show always has a great moral and then there’s comic relief! Come on people, wake up! Did you ever here of something called advertising or giving a show a decent timeslot? Let’s hope another network picks this gem up.

  107. Fancy Fembot says:

This is the worst news ever. I really like this show. This is campaign worthy!

  108. Barb says:

Too bad. It was one of the very very few shows I watched.

  109. Don Miller says:

PLEASE BRING BACK SEEKER!!!!!!!!! SyFi, you will be getting a gem with this show…..the fan base is growing, season 2 has had more viewers then the first season. Seeker is such an amazing show, to cancel it after merely two seasons is a
disservice to not only the fans, but the actors and the entire crew of Seeker

  110. Matthew says:

There are already a lot of people “campaigning” for this show to be saved.

  111. Leonie says:

The show was barely promoted and the timeslots kept changing, but they were still expecting people to find out about it? Though it still gets about 2 million viewers per episode anyway!

We are currently setting up an campaing to SaveOurSeeker (SOS):

  112. leo says:

The show was horrible … I was surprised it was picked up for a second season.

  113. Tod says:

I also love the show and stumbled upon it by accident. I then went out and read all the books. I loved books 2, 4, and 6. Lots of the material from the books; however, does not adapt well to a TV series. Although there are 11 books in all, I can only see them having one more season with 22 eposodes–assuming they losely follow the books as they are now doing. If not, I hope they can wrap up everything in the remaining 9 episodes. Bridget Regan is a gem and Tabrett Bethell was a nice addition. It is a shame with all the terrible shows out there that the ones I really like get cancelled–Firefly, The Dresden Files, and now Legend of the Seeker.

  114. Marcia says:

Bummer. This show has great characters and is lot’s of fun to watch. First run episodes are on here Saturdays at 5 pm. I imagine almost everyone must DVR it to watch later…does this type of viewing get counted in the ratings?

  115. JC says:

Everytime I start to like a show it get’s canceled. It’s no wonder that ABC is doing bad, they cant keep shows on long enough for them to do good and neither can the other networks with the exception of Fox. I hope and pray that Syfy or Fox picks them up because this information is like a punch in the gut!

  116. Bill Gorman says:

Folks, enough with the repeated posting of the same 3 links to the LotS “Save Our Show” campaign.

  117. Brian says:

Syfy doesn’t really look interested in picking up the show if you read Craig Engler twitter. He says if they are he let us know.

  118. Matthew says:

Mike Sussman writer/producer of LotS said this not too long ago on his Twitter “Everyone, please, chillax. #LegendoftheSeeker has *not* been cancelled. Plans are ongoing for season three. Spread the word.”

  119. I still say the best strategy is to get people to watch it and turn those numbers up! Everyone I’ve told to watch this show now loves it. You would be amazed at how many people still do not know about LoTS. Never give up, never surrender!

  120. PokaPlaya says:

Co-Exec producer tweeted: “Everyone, please, chillax. #LegendoftheSeeker has *not* been cancelled. Plans are ongoing for season three. Spread the word.” Sounds like good news(?) for fans.

I really love this show and thank goodness for my DVR as it comes on in the Houston area on Sat. afternoon, but the time does change.

  123. Alissa says:

This is hands down one of the best shows. frankly im surprised its even made it this far seeing as to it was never promoted .. and it being sydnicated. but it made it through the tough odds and made a 2nd season wich is doing great.. but apparently not up to tribune’s standards.. this coming from a station that plays old time stuff that nobody even cares about.. yet they dont want to waste one hour a week on a show that finally makes thier station worth watching..?? really? BIG MISTAKE.. they’ll probably realize soon.. anywho their lose.. hopefully “legend of the seeker” doesn’t suffer too much for tribunes careless mistake. its the perfect show that can easily be enjoyed by anyone.. no matter who they are or what thier background .. its simply a AMazing SHow.. cant make it any simpler than that folks.

  124. SamJ says:

I hope we’re getting a Season 3. The show is just getting better and better. Though I wish it ran at some halfway normal hour in my area.

  125. troy moore says:

i think it should go to showtime behind spartacas, but should remain less sexually graphic.

  126. Mario says:

Legend of the seeker is my whole families favorite show its the only thing that we can watch with the whole family. There is action and a good story hope they change thier mind or some other station picks it up we accidently found it on netflix. come networks wake up. keep seeker alive.

  127. THIS SHOW IS NOT CANCELLED says:

People, the show is NOT canceled, there is going to be a season 3…

    http://www.spoilertv.com/20The10/03/has-legend-of-seeker-been-cancelled.html

The Show has NOT been canceled, tribune just is not picking it up.

  128. It’s true the show has not officially been canceled yet, it just lost it’s biggest distributor. However, the prospects are not good, regardless of what SpoilerTV might have said (didn’t read it) and what the producer has said on Twitter. ABC has absolutely NOT announced a season 3, and if I had to bet, I’d be the show will not be back next year. But it’s true that is not official yet. It is not true that a season 3 has been confirmed.

  129. Tina Pannu says:

This is CRAZY!!! Legend Of The Seeker is one of the BEST SHOWS on tv!!! It makes me so MAD that they are always so quick to cancell a show. Why not just move it to another time slot and advertise more!!!!

  130. David Wright says:

I just found this back accident and will be watching from now on! I wish they were advertising this!

  131. Sarah says:

This is by far and away my favorite show – I love the mythology, the characters, the fantasy, the fight scenes, corny humor, etc. It’s the only show I watch regularly and one that I pay for on itunes just so I don’t have to watch mind-numbing commercials and promos for other tiresome, less-than-stellar shows. Please don’t take away a really fun, good show!

  132. Nicole says:

I HOPE this show isn’t canceled – even though I can’t watch it on TV when it’s on, I PAY for the season downloads through iTunes… I loved the books and the TV series is taking Richard and Kahlan down a different path, but to the same destination… so it’s like whole story within what I’ve already read.

  133. RJ says:

They BETTER NOT CANCEL THE SHOW! I’m a fan of the books and THE SHOW!

They need to take it to a cable network like HBO or something like that, but I’ll be danged upset if they cancel this brilliant show!!!

  134. Bob yang says:

Omg WTF don’t cancel this!! I agree with most people tv these days are allcrime and doctor and things which I do not enjoy 1 bit. I’m a huge fan of fantasy and this show I would say was the best show I seen in my whole life. I live in Australia and I don’t get it on tv here( i don’t know how other Australian posters got it) but I do love this show. I’m up to season 2 episode 9 and it’s great. Also I don’t know much about it’s advertising and time slot but from what I have read it does have a pretty bad time slot. Btw I found this show by accident and it has hooked me completely. Please don’t cancel it i’m begging you all the way from Australia!!!!!

  135. Russ says:

kinda stupid to cancel it now. The first season sucked without a doubt. The second season was actually pretty damn good so far. If the series would have stayed true to the books though, it would have had a lot higher ratings.

  136. ron says:

damm it, there is like no fantasy shows on t.v right now, more reality shows… I don’t think anyone will pick this up, the production cost seems pretty high with everyone dressed up in armor.

  137. Flip says:

Tribune, the MAIN seeker distribution network is in SERIOUS financial shape. As a matter of fact, they are in Chap 11 and having a very difficult time exiting it. They had vastly too much debt when they went private. IMHO, this is more about them than our beloved show. The boneheads really messed up badly and likely now have little (OK, probably NO) room for any risky moves. Play reruns over and over, vastly cut new programing that costs anything (would be my guess on what is happening). Program Directors jobs are all on the line big time. Bonuses are being battled in court. Bondholders are sueing each other. It is a total mess.

I doubt they could find their bottom section with both hands now.

Expect all sorts of reruns from Tribune networks is MHO. Always liked Mayberry RFD, Three’s Company? Well expect to see a lot of it. YUK!!!

  138. tina says:

ABC network aren’t ever satified. My sister, mother and I loved that show, and now I am officially done with TV series, what the hell is the dame point in getting into something and not having it get an ending, especially when it comes to ABC,these dame people always cancel good shows,Ex:Deep End,Invasion,Ugly Betty,Pusing Daises and others and now they have the audasity to ruin my saturdays where I usually look forward to seeing Cara,Kahlan,Richard and Zedd, bastards are what ABC is and now they are taking ABC off cablevision,it wouldn’t be that much of a lost but I was planning on my last series to watch to be LOST but now because of these bastards I don’t even get to enjoy a show where for the first time ABC decided to give a series an ending. An they even ruined the OSCARS awards for me.

  139. JustinT says:

I just started watching “Legend of the Seeker” and was hooked on the first episode. I found it by searching Netflix top rated movies on each genre. Each episode had me wanting more. The characters and character-building were excellent. I am devastated that the show is cancelled.

  140. Zarkon says:

Cancellation of Legend of the Seeker was not in the prophecy foretold by the Creator! Seriously we need to rally to insure another season. Thanks for posting the links. This show may not merit whatever numbers the powers that be consider renewal-worthy, but it’s DEFINITELY a fan favorite. Check out ratings on itunes and netflix. Even if season 3 is a go, showing our support can only help now and in the future should we be at these crossroads again.

  141. Jacob B. says:

My post seems to have been deleted. Did I say something wrong?

Anyway, the show will be missed if does not end up being saved. The second season was just a huge improvement from the first.

  142. Jacob, your comment wasn’t deleted. I just have pagination turned on so you need to hit “Older comments” below to scroll through them all.

Edit: and at least for now I’ve turned the pagination off. I turned it on because on some posts there are several hundred comments and it takes the pages a while to load, but until I can redesign the presentation of the pagination it’s too confusing.

  143. Jacob B. says:

Ah hah! Apparently I don’t know how to use the Internet… or pay attention to what’s actually on the page.

    Thanks for the explanation. :)

  144. sdt says:

if tribune is dropping LotS, what other networks – aside from the often mentioned SyFY – might be candidates for picking it up? Maybe calls made by fans (ie, us) to SyFy and other potentially interested networks would increase chances of a pick-up.

Can you imagine a Showtime or IGN (Spartacus: Blood and Sand) pickup that would allow the full range of sensuality in Goodkind’s books to be presented onscreen?

  145. Joe H says:

There is no point in imagining if Showtime or HBO or whatever would pick up the show because it will never happen.

  146. LaziDragon says:

Man i have a super serious depressing life im poor i get bitched at constantly my fellow classmates makes comments of my struggle now this my favorite show ever getting canceled if i could cry i would… this is seriously awful i read the books and loved im glad the series is different from the book who needs the same story over again but if and movie channel picked it up and was more graphic that would be super awesome
saddest thing in the world and in my life needed it

Seeker Fans Please Stand Up and Unite To Keep This Tragedy From happening

  147. Deanna says:

Maybe scifi will pick it up. Legend of the Seeker is aired in the UK by the SciFi channel, in an 8pm timeslot and season 2 is having very good ratings. SciFi also air the show in Europe and as SciFi Europe and Sci Fi US are all the same company owned by NBC, I see no reason they won’t pick it up, especially if they are getting good ratings in their European stations.

  148. Nummulite-girl says:

Why on Earth would they decide not to renew it?! The show is far better than so many ordinary stuff out there on TV. This is our weekly dose of fantasy and awesomness. And it’s even getting more and more popularity around the globe, not just in USA.

I really hope other distributers don’t make the same lousy mistake as the Tribune, and come that they come to their senses. We *need* Season 3 of LotS!

  149. Ujio1140 says:

    Really, really bad news.
I can’t understand why the Tribune made this announcement so soon. I mean we still have 9 episodes to go and it is quite certain that due to fear of cancellation the ratings will rise. What if the ratings rise to a satisfying level, let’s say closer to 2.0 HH? Will the Tribune renew it then?
I don’t know, I have a feeling that this announcement may be a trick to boost the ratings.

As for the other candidates to pick it up (SyFy etc) don’t expect them to show obvious interest. That’s how business works. Everyone wants to make the best deal so they will never show much eagerness.
Personally I think that the show is to good not to be renewed. Also considering that it never had a real chance (first run syndicated, broadcasted weekend afternoon…) I (want to) believe that someone is going to give it a break.
    I’ll be waiting… hoping for the best…

  150. Capri says:

Well i know if there is no 3rd season then they leave us no where. i hope that theres a 3rd season if not then i don’t plan coutiune watching it now..

  151. Jenna says:

This is terribly upsetting. This is by far my favorite show on television these days, and I sincerely hope that it gets picked up and can continue through some other means.

  152. Shalamar says:

Everyone is saying BooHoo about Legend of the Seeker. I agree this sucks royally, but let’s do something about it! I mean Jericho was brough back from the brink of cancellation because of its fan base.We can do the same for the Seeker! Doesn’t the thing about Jeircho prove that there is a flaw in their ratings tabulations? I mean obviously not all the people watching the show are being counted. So does anyone know how to start an online petition? And who knows how to contact the Corporate Office who handles the Seeker? We can change this! Don’t resign yourself to this fate, it will change.

  153. Lighthope says:

Awwww…I liked this show. Watched it all the time

  154. sdt says:

  155. Brandon says:

No! Surely they can find a way to keep this show going. Let’s save this show!

  156. Brandon says:

We can’t let this show die. It’s too good.

  157. Andrew says:

No freaking way!!! I had just bought the first season and really loved the show because it is different form all other shows on TV. I thought that the ratings were great for it, but obviously not good enough for Tribune. I think that Tribune probably the biggest mistake that they could possilbly have made. Nice job Tribune way to screw up big time!!!

ron said: ‘I don’t think anyone will pick this up, the production cost seems pretty high with everyone dressed up in armor.’

As long as Craig Horner gets to keep swinging his big old sword around, I don’t care if he’s wearing armor or not!

I’d be OK with the cast ditching their clothing completely if that would save the show! Purely as a cost-saving measure, of course.

  160. sdt says:

i have to add that LotS is far far far more fun than the books it’s loosely based on.

the novels have their moments, but they are repetitive and the crazy-weird-violent-self loathing-hyper aggressive-ayn randian-right wing crap philosophy of the author is annoying and pathetic.
we live in a scary world, but it’s tragic when ethics are smothered by fears and hatred of dirty fking hippies. in goodkind’s work fantasy becomes intermixed with banal weird cheney-esque paranoid preachiness.

  161. sdt says:

anyway LotS thankfully seems to veer away from craziness. beneath the fantasy swords and sworcery the message is one of non-violence, mercy and love. it tells a story of heroism, romance, sacrifice and fun.

  162. Shar says:

I’m really disappointed. My husband and I love this show. We only watch two TV series, The Seeker and LOST! With LOST! coming to an end this season, we were glad we still had The Seeker…that is, we THOUGHT we still had it.

  163. Shar says:

Okay, I should have read thread comments before I posted. Now I understand there is still hope…cool!

  164. Kevin says:

thats out rages me and my girl friend watch it every sat or sunday together. I lovee this show more then lord of the ring and iv watch and read every single thing from JRR Token and Peter.J. so you can see how much i love legend of the seeker so i say no to cancelling the show

  165. OMG! This is my favorite show of all shows and I am really upset of them doing this. It’s so good and they just had to destroy it for the rest of us you enjoy. I rally hope news is still not true because it’s just not fair. I would be happy if someone had the kind heart to take into their tv studio like cbs or nbc or fox11.

I saw a vote on one of the sites that said 97% want the show to stay on and only 3% of the people want it taken off. tribune company really needs to get there act strait. we all need to join in and fight along side the seeker! now who’s with me!!!

Legend gets better ratings than most of the CW’s shows. Its not fair. why should melrose place get a second chance, Seeker is wayyy better and the ratings are better, and seeker is promoted wayy less than these shows, but somehow still manages to get more people to watch it, maybe if they would keep the episodes consistant, and not on and off every freakin weekend. Please Give us more!!!

  173. dydy says:

I think like you ! But we have to mobilize !

  174. derascal says:

Hi…I have been doing the following for the past several weeks…

Write real letters as well as emails, twitters or facebook. REAL LETTERS. Be positive, be respectful — ask for a better time slot, point out this is quality new programming.

Write sponsors — money talks…if you let sponsors of the show know you watch the series and fans appreciate their continued support of the show for renewals….let them know positive things about their product if applicable.

Write the stations you watch the series on and let them know you write to sponsors too.

The series is fantastic — yes anything can get even better…but it is excellent. Thank goodness it is not Hercules or Xena. Legend of the Seeker is the best series of this genre on for adult family audiences. I am outside the 18-49 demorgraphics– an adult–adult family programming I guess is difficult for the powers to be to understand. Why, I have no idea. I get tired of the formulated fluff stuff — this show hooked me by its actors and the adventure, drama, romance, and fantasy it brings each week. The characaters have ethics and values. It’s a good story which has not good the good vs evil but the gray areas too at times. They need to just write good solid stories and keep it true to the characters. I have read the first novel, prefer the series at this point. Use the books as a resource. Let’s keep this series on the air. I’m greedy I am hoping for not only Season 3 but I want a 4! SOS – Save our Seeker

Deanna, what are the “very good ratings” it’s getting on Sci-Fi UK, precisely? Maybe I’m a pessimist but I don’t hold out much hope that’ll make a difference. Jumping to a “new” network (or, in this case, ANY network at all, since it’s not currently on a network) is very difficult. When WPIX-11 in NYC demoted the show from Saturdays at 9 p.m. to Saturdays at 5 p.m., I should’ve been more worried. Bad, bad sign.

  178. Borya says:

Legend of the seeker is a great serial.third season must be..All people likes them.No need destroid beatiful things.

  179. mike says:

finally have solid actors and visuals with engaging storylines, so of course the “powers to be” cancel it! how about promoting it a little more. i found out about it by word of mouth and been stuck to it like glue ever since. hope somebody in tv land gets the message.

  180. Buck says:

OMG! Just reading it now! OMG

  181. Kozy says:

I hope this is not true. I love this show. One of the show’s producers has twittered that they’re still preparing for season three.

  182. Evelyn says:

Co-executive producer and writer on LOTS, Mike Sussman, tweeted “Everyone, please, chillax. Legend of the Seeker has *not* been cancelled. Plans are ongoing for season three. Spread the word.”

Not all networks are dumping the series.

  183. Mike Sussman must stump for his show, and it certainly hasn’t been canceled in the sense that season two isn’t being yanked off the air. But season 3 is definitely up in the air.

When you lose the Chicago, New York and Los Angeles markets (the top 3 markets in the country) along with several other markets and a cable super station it’s a big loss. Can ABC find replacements for the Tribune stations? There’s no doubt it could. Where the doubt creeps in is whether it can find replacement stations where the economics still make sense. We’ll see.

  184. Holly says:

tribune company really needs to get there act strait.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t support your show, but from what I’ve seen Tribune has been very respectful to the fans. The fact is the ratings just aren’t high enough for the advertisers. Tribune made a business decision and aren’t going to change their mind based on polls from fansites.

  185. Joe H says:

Airing new episodes at 1:30am in some markets isn’t very respectful in my eyes anyway.

  186. vsaint says:

It airs 8pm Saturday in my market & Sunday 3pm.
I don’t get why it’s ratings have fallen off so much since last year.
    DVR, Scheduling.

  187. Transic says:

You would think that in a universe where there are hundreds of channels when counting cable and broadcast, where you have no idea why they’re around, they should not have any trouble finding a comparative station to broadcast LoTS.

What’s on the MyNetworkTV stations right now, other than wrestling and second-rate movies? Can anyone tell me what’s on Bravo, MTV, VH1, E!, ION or TLC? Heck, I can even watch it on Lifetime or WE!

Come on! There has to be options other than Tribune! Why won’t WWOR or WPXN pick it up?!

  188. Jacob B. says:

@Joe H: I don’t think Tribune has any control over that. Unless I’m mistaken, wouldn’t that be up to the local stations?

It airs here on Saturdays at 7pm.

@Transic: MyNetworkTV dumped their shows in favor of reruns and game shows because it was cheaper. I can’t imagine them taking over for Tribune unless they were certain LOTS was going to get a ton of ratings.

  189. Skye says:

I agree with many of you…it was getting better and better. The addition of the mordsith woman (Cara?) was brilliant. Why do all the shows I like get canceled? They canceled Sarah Conner Chronicales this year. Thank the lord we still have SUPERNATURAL which is likely to be picked up for a fourth season, sources say.

    Places to write to LoTS

    ABC Studios
    500 S. Buena Vista Street
    Burbank, CA 91521

    Disney-ABC Domestic Television
    500 S. Buena Vista Street
    Burbank, CA 91521

  190. Julia says:

Skye, Supernatural is currently in its fifth season, and it has already been picked up for a sixth, though with a new showrunner.

  191. Transic says:

@ Jacob B. – No, I don’t mean the network itself but the individual stations that are affiliates of it. For example, WPHL in Philly airs LoTS. It’s a Tribune station but it still counts as one MyNet station broadcasting LoTS. The MyNet stations in New York(WWOR), Chicago(WPWR), Los Angeles(KCOP) and Houston(KTXH) are owned by Fox. Those could readily replace the Tribune stations in those cities, plugging a large part of the hole. Also, CBS owns second stations in Philly(WPSG), San Francisco(KBCW) and South Florida(WBFS). It shouldn’t cost those two station groups a lot to bring LoTS to those stations.

Write to Fox and CBS and tell them that we want to watch LoTS on their second stations.

  192. Jacob B. says:

    Ah, gotcha!

  193. Littell says:

This is a great show. I also feel the Tribune’s financial mess is at the heart of their failure to renew. I have no sympathy for them and now am actively routing for Tribune’s demise.

Perhaps SyFy will step in and be the hero. They certainly are the right demographic and seem to treat shows better.

  194. Jasmine says:

How would it not cost those groups much to put on LotS? LotS is a very expensive show to make. It has a network show’s budget, so airing it and acquiring rights to air it isn’t like picking up repeats of Becker. I’m not saying its impossible to hope for Legend of the Seeker, but you can’t ignore how expensive this show is to make. Its going to be a factor in getting a new, large group on board. ABC Studios can’t license it for a low amount, they would never agree to produce a 3rd season that way, guaranteeing it would lose a ton of money.

  195. very bad news. the show is great. we should do whatever we can for having a 3 season and more.

Hell to the Yes: Legend of the Seeker Ain’t Dead Yet!

    PM PST by Jennifer Godwin

Great news, Legend of the Seeker fans! You may have heard rumors that your show had been canceled, but we just talked with an inside source close to the show, and well, the rumors are just not true.

Yes, the Tribune Station Group is dropping Legend of the Seeker in a lot of markets, but that’s not the end of the road for Richard (Craig Horner), Kahlan (Bridget Regan) and Cara (Tabrett Bethell). Here’s the good news that we’ve heard about the future of our favorite cult-hit fantasy series:

Insiders tell us that ABC Studios, which produces Legend of the Seeker, is not letting Tribune’s decision be a show killer. We’re told that ABC has every desire to bring the show back for a third season and studio bosses are “exploring their options” for where and how to air a potential third season.

Long story short, if the ax is falling on LOTS, it’ll be weeks and months before we know for sure, but Tribune’s decision is not a death knell. So don’t panic, kiddos, and how about we channel all that nervous energy into some serious fan activism?

So, what’s our suggestion for an alternate home for Legend of the Seeker? We say ABC should either convince the CW to air it on Fridays at 9 p.m. after Smallville, resulting in a “sexy genre show” two-night block for the network (Vampire Diaries and Supernatural on Thursdays, Smallville and LOTS on Fridays), or it should sell the show to Syfy, not least because Legend’s ratings are at least as good as anything that Caprica and Stargate Universe are putting up.

What’s your suggestion for saving Legend of the Seeker? And why do you love the show so much in the first place? Hit the comments with your take!

  197. Julia says:

Wow, an E! article claiming a show has hope, just be sure to comment to show your support! I’m SHOCKED!

  198. Transic says:

Or they could opt for a Netflix/internet strategy of releasing future episodes for a nominal fee, then allow Hulu to host it weeks after.

    What about TNT?

  199. Marco says:

I have been unable to find ANY network that carries the show through CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS.

I looked and looked and looked… high and low- far and wide. It is a GREAT show.

I can NOT understand why it would not be on SyFy. It could do well elsewhere as well – I would love to see 10 seasons of the show – BUT, I truly do hope they do justice and make 3 seasons at LEAST.

    Why?

The Halls of Prophecy have been correct in the show about EVERY major thing that happened – with the exception of what the Seeker can or cannot do (he proves his ability to overcome everything – even when the walls of prophecy say he cannot).

BUT – as I said – everything else that has been written has come true… and in Season 2 – episode 10 or 11 – it was 11 I think – where the new prophecy appeared on the wall at that temple in the “Old World” with all the women dressed in red teaching Richard about his Magic Powers – it was said that he needed to stay there – SAFE – because after the New Seeker defeated The Keeper that a third – new – and unimaginable power would arise that Richard would need to fight and would defeat it- anyways, like I said – EVERYTHING thus far has happened – with the simple exception of Richard doing more than was expected of him – so we have to see that – and than a proper ending can appear.

If the show ends unexpectedly than I am sure no one was prepared for that at completion of filming season 2 – and the ending will suck because they’d have expected to do a Season 3.

PLUS, Cara kicks a*s and were only just getting to know her – I would like to see the authors work completed- it WILL pay off..

If the show was marketed correctly it would have FAR more followers who loyally watched the show (WITHOUT being confessed!!!)

Seriously though – if not for my nosy self digging ’round the net I’d NEVER have heard of the show – it was NOT advertised well and I don’t think it’s on Charter Communications roster (I have every channel – I’ve looked) – I could very well be wrong but I don’t think so – it doesn’t seem that it’s offered through Charter.

Anyways, I am NOT wrong about the following – if marketed correctly the show could do wonders financially for those greedy few who will only keep it alive if it hawks in enough gold chillings.

Keep your fingers crossed all – otherwise, I may need to find myself a Confessor and a wizard and go shove the sword of truth down whoever throat is necessary to keep this show alive – hell, I’ll have the Mord’ sith torture ‘em – with pleasure!

…87 seasons of Legend Of The Seeker – we want to see Richard and Kaylan grow old together fighting evil or ELSE!!!! ;)

…but please, DO keep those fingers CROSSED TIGHTLY!!!! =)

  200. Alex says:

At least maybe on Syfy they could add more mature themes, although the show itself has been darker this year.

    Anyhow, Save LotS!

  201. anto31 says:

That´s a shame! This show rocks and now they say it will be cancelled? We got a lot of police investigation series,Sci-fi series, comedies, but only one sword and sorcery series(at least only one good, not like that silly shows Hercules and Xena.).I presume that the reason is money, because other series like Smallville are cheap and get the renewal and the Seeker doesn´t,even does is better done and more original, but maybe too expensive(I like Smallville, too, don´t misunderstand me,but it´s hard too believe if one can make 10 seasons the other one can´t make at least 3)I hope another company sindicates it of I will be very upset…

  202. slimane says:

DAMN.that isnt good,i’m from morocco, and here there is a lot of fans for this show, mayybe we don’t watch it on ABC but we can’t deny that there is no successs!!!! i’m a big fan of this amazing show, and i willkill myself if it is cancelled….we have to protest!!!!!

  203. 4JackJack0 says:

Legend of the Seeker is a great show and should be renewed for a 3rd season. When you view the rating it looks like they are still great. What do we need to do to make this happen.

  204. Eric says:

Maybe we can get SyFy to pick it up. They would at least have it on during a normal timeslot, and repeat it many times so that people will get and stay interested.

  205. DennisK says:

Mike Sussman, executive producer for Legend of the Seeker, posted this on his Twitter today:

Everyone, please, chillax. #LegendoftheSeeker has *not* been cancelled. Plans are ongoing for season three. Spread the word.

  206. michael_rahl says:

    Seeker is awesome. This sucks.

  207. gandalfsbeard says:

Gahhh! Who do I email to protest this crap!

  208. Chuey D says:

Totally wack. I found out about this show by flipping through chs around 3 or 4 am. Instantly liked it and told friends about it. They liked it to. Ive been getting people into the show. If it had a better time slot and some advertising then more people would watch. Somebody better pick it up quick. Its to dope of a show to let go just like that.

  209. Bee says:

I just discovered this show and am so bummed to hear it's not being picked up. :(

  210. Ivyteainn says:

Obviously we need to convince ABC to find another avenue to broadcast the show. Writing ABC may help, I would urge everyone to do that. Send a letter. Don't wait, be proactive. I also get a direct mailing of the new shows through ABC, you can too. Probably, though I don't know this, they watch that numbers that view the program through that site. As to the Tribune stations, boycott them, don't watch them. I disagree with others, you need to let them know that you are angry with them. Keep sending them e-mails. I also disagree with the notion that they can't change their minds. Don't let them off the hook.

  211. RichardPersimmons says:

According to what I’ve read, ABC wants to bring the show back for a 3rd season, but it’s not a done deal yet. They just need to find the right buyer. New episodes start airing again this weekend. If we can get the TV ratings to increase over the next few weeks, that has to go a long way toward getting someone to pick it up. So I’m telling all of my friends to watch it on TV. We can’t assume anything until we see an official announcement from ABC. I agree we can’t wait, and we have to be proactive. TV ratings speak louder than words.

  212. cc_from_pc says:

I too found this show by mistake i was really trying to watch something else. but became hooked how can they exspect a show to do well if they dont put it out there. I would hate it if they cancel it. everyone go and support this show and get the word out there im adding to all my profiles….

  213. nikkinow says:

This is stupid. Legend of the Seeker had crap advertising. I learned about the show thanks to youtube- not the network. If ABC really wanted the show to do well, they would've advertised more than they did. But they didn't. The same thing happened to Defying Gravity. No one supported the show because no one knew of it.
I really wish the good shows weren't being canceled all the time. Shows aren't getting the chance to bloom. No show has an amazing season one. Because season one is all about creating the atmosphere and making relationships between characters. Throughout each season, the story gets better. Why can't we give legend of the Seeker a chance?
    We want season 3!

  214. Susan Ross says:

Big fat bummer. I just discovered it on Netflix and watched all of season 1 & 2 in about a week. I was really looking forward to season 3 and surprised to find there isn't going to be one.
