A repeat of Primetime: What Would You Do? and 20/20 led ABC to yet another Friday win.  20/20 was the night’s top program on the broadcast networks.  I didn’t watch, but according to TV Guide the topics were:

A profile of a former Washington Redskins cheerleader who suffered from a mysterious neurological disorder; a report on parents who give their children medical marijuana; a look at the market for counterfeit shoes.

Even though it was a repeat, ABC’s  Primetime: What Would You Do? was the night’s second-most watched program, both overall and with adults 18-49.

In the battle of semi-original scripted programming, Canadian import Flashpoint at 10pm topped NBC’s Friday Night Lights in both viewers and adults 18-49.   I say “semi-original” since Friday Night Lights had already aired on DirecTV and I’m guessing Flashpoint had already aired in Canada.  But, they were original at least for the U.S. broadcast networks.

Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

  1. Doppy says:

I think ABC is saving new episodes of WWYD to fill in for whatever new show flops in the fall.

  2. Let's go Smallville!!

WOOHOOO! Bringing up the night average as usual!

  3. DonJ1973 says:

I'll give Flashpoint credit for staying consistent in the overall viewership. I love the show, but I think CBS is wasting it in the summer. They should have started airing it on Sunday's after they canned Three Rivers. I'm worried about how Blue Bloods is going to do in this timeslot in 2 1/2 months.

  4. SVUnCI says:

I couldn't concentrate to Flashpoint last night because those black pillar bars on an HDTV distract me too much, I don't know why the NBC and CBS affiliates in New Orleans weren't broadcasting primetime shows in HD last night,

  5. tvmonkey says:

Supernatural fans were too busy winning the semi-final v LOST for the title of 'BEST SHOW EVER' on spoilertv.

  6. yankeesrj12 says:

Best show EVER? Supernatural? Haha, thats a good one! :P

  7. ap076 says:

Yeah, they are even putting out the call for ideas from viewers at the end of the show. 5 million and tops in “the Demo”, even if still the majority of viewers are older on a Friday, is impressive if you take into account the show is a repeat that holds absolutely no interest to anybody who watched the episode before, so theoretically 5 million unique/new viewers.

I do think, and ABC is a network perhaps capable of this more than any other…..hint rhymes with Jillionare…..they could easily over do this show/formula by making it more than an occasional part of programming.

  8. when will CW end up Smallville ? I am watching season 10 . Smallville is my favorite.

  9. jimtv says:

I can't either but it's dirt cheap and it won its time slot.
